52 A Special Moment
Last New Year’s Eve at midnight, Skyler had been asleep on the couch. This year he was wide awake in New York City, watching the ball drop in Times Square. “It’s starting to move!” he yelled through all the noise. The sparkling globe was slowly sliding down a pole atop a building. His granddad shouted, “In one minute the old year ends and a new one begins.”
Times Square was crowded. People were wearing goofy hats and glasses. Everybody started chanting, “Ten ... nine ... eight ...” Skyler and his granddad chanted along. “ ... three ... two ... one ...” The ball touched bottom, and everyone shouted, “Happy New Year!” Music and confetti filled the air. Beaming, Skyler said, “This beats watching it on TV!”
Midnight on December 31 is a special moment. That’s when the old year leaves and a new one arrives. This happens whether you’re aware of it or not. Another special time was the moment when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Even if you didn’t feel anything, God changed you in an amazing way. He made you a brand-new person—and gave you a whole new life.
Bible Verse: If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Corinthians 5:17
People in Bible Times: Saul of Tarsus was persecuting believers and putting them in prison. Then Jesus appeared to him, and God changed Saul into a new person. He became the apostle Paul, who spread the gospel around the world. (See Acts 8:1-3; 9:1-19)
