Adventure Bible Family Devotions

Duration: 365 days
Pulled Both Ways

“Pull!” Keenan yelled, holding the rope and digging his feet into the ground. He felt himself sliding forward. His teammates struggled to help him yank the rope back. It was field day at school, and some kids were playing tug-of-war.

“We’re losing!” Cynthia shouted. The red ribbon tied onto the middle of the rope was getting close to the other team’s line. Keenan pulled harder. His teammates did too, and he felt the momentum shift. Feet scrabbling, he took a few steps backward, and the ribbon moved toward his team’s line. “Keep going!” Raul hollered. Suddenly the rope lurched forward. Keenan and some of his teammates fell. They were pulled through the grass as the ribbon crossed the other line. Getting up and brushing himself off, Keenan told Raul, “We need a really big kid on our side.”

Are you in a tug-of-war between faith and doubt? Your faith in God’s promises is pulling you in one direction. But your doubt is pulling you the other way. God can strengthen your faith. Let him be the “anchor” on your team. That’s the big guy who holds the end of the rope, plants his feet on the ground, and doesn’t budge! Ask God to increase your faith and help you defeat unbelief. (See Luke 17:5 and Mark 9:24)

Bible Verse: [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith. – Romans 4:20

Words to Treasure: Have faith and do not doubt. – Matthew 21:21
