Adventure Bible Family Devotions

Duration: 365 days

Going with the Flow

Wearing a swimsuit and sunglasses, Penny lay back, relaxed. She and her friends were tubing down a slow, wide river. Some adults were along to keep an eye on them. The girls had brought snacks and drinks, and everyone was having fun just floating along. Suddenly a blast of cool water hit Penny. “Wake up, lazybones!” Helena said with a giggle.

Startled, Penny sat up. “Hey, knock it off!” She kicked some water at Helena, and then they splashed each other for a few moments. The water felt good. “Does anyone know what time it is?” Janine asked, floating behind them. Splashing Helena one last time, Penny replied, “Why do you want to know?” Janine looked up. “Well, the sun’s getting lower. What if it gets dark before we reach the landing?”

Helena laughed. “Janine, you have to chill out. You worry too much.”

Once you’ve chosen God’s plan for your life, you don’t have to worry about your future. Like a steady current, God will guide you and carry you along through life. He knows what lies ahead around each bend in the river. You still need to make decisions and work toward your future, of course. But you don’t have to be anxious about it. Just trust God, relax, and enjoy the journey.

Bible Verse: Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. – Matthew 6:34

Words to Treasure: “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
