Patience Is A Virtue

By Tia McCollors

Sisters in Faith

But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. – James 4:10

Climbing the career ladder can sometimes be a struggle. Despite your dedication, hard work and expertise, the co-worker that you trained may be promoted to a supervisory position that you desired. Feeling underappreciated and overwhelmed, thoughts cross your mind that sound like “What about me?” or “When will it be my turn?

It’s not wrong to want to be properly compensated or noticed for your commitment to a company or cause. Don’t stop being faithful. God sees behind the scenes and desires to craft a position where you will thrive. He knows the desires of your heart and will perfect everything that concerns you. That’s His word. Believe it! As you continue to be faithful over another man’s work, God will grace you during the waiting period until you have your own.

Practical Application: Abraham had to wait for God to bless him with a child from his wife’s womb, and David spent thirteen years waiting to be crowned king. We’ve read of the perils that arise when people aren’t patient with God’s timing. Learn from other people’s mistakes so you won’t have to experience your own. Meditate on Ecclesiastes 3.

Prayer: Lord, I need patience. In order to cultivate patience in my life, I realize you will send me tests until I pass. You have been patient with me, and I’ll extend that same endurance to other people and in trying situations. I trust that You know what’s best for me.
