Concerning The Resurrection: Christ Was Raised From The Dead And Seen By Many

15 Now I make-known to you, brothers, the good-news which I announced-as-good-news to you, which you also received, in which you also stand, through which you also are being saved— if [a] you are holding-on in that message I announced-as-good-news to you, unless[b] you believed in-vain. For I delivered to you among the first[c] things what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He has been raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to over five-hundred brothers at-one-time, of whom the majority are remaining until now. But some fell-asleep. After that He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. And last of all, as-if-indeed[d] to the untimely-born[e] one, He appeared to me also. For I am the least of the apostles— who am not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am. And His grace toward me did not become[f] empty[g]. But I labored even more than them all— yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 So whether it was I or those, thus we are proclaiming, and thus you believed.

So If Christ Was Raised, Why Do Some of You Say There Is No Resurrection?

12 But if Christ is being proclaimed[h] that He has been raised from the dead, how is it some are saying among you that there is no resurrection of dead[i] ones?

If The Dead Are Not Raised, Christ Was Not Raised, And Your Faith Is Futile

13 Now if there is no resurrection of dead ones, neither has Christ been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is also empty; your faith is also empty; 15 and we are even found to be false-witnesses of [j] God, because we testified against[k] God that He did raise Christ— Whom He did not raise if-indeed then dead ones are not raised. 16 For if dead ones are not raised, neither has Christ been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile. You are still in your sins. 18 Then also the ones having fallen-asleep in Christ perished[l]. 19 If we are ones having hoped in Christ in this life only, we are more pitiable[m] than all people.

But Christ Has Been Raised As The Firstfruit of Those Yet To Be Raised

20 But now, Christ has been raised from the dead— the firstfruit[n] of the ones having fallen-asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of dead ones also came through a man. 22 For just as in[o] Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be given-life[p], 23 but each in his own order[q]: Christ the firstfruit; after-that[r] the ones of [s] Christ at His coming. 24 Then[t] comes the end— when He hands-over the kingdom to His God and Father, when He[u] has abolished all[v] rule and all authority and power. 25 For He[w] must reign until which time He[x] has put all the enemies under His feet. 26 Death, the last enemy, is abolished[y] 27 for “He[z] subjected all things under His[aa] feet” [Ps 8:6]. But when He says[ab] that “All things have been subjected”, it is clear that this is except the One[ac] having subjected all things to Him. 28 But when all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One[ad] having subjected all things to Him, in order that God may be all things in all.

Otherwise, Why Be Concerned About The Dead Or Risk Our Lives?

29 Otherwise[ae], what will the ones being baptized for[af] the dead do? If dead ones are not raised at-all, why indeed are they baptized for them? 30 Why indeed[ag] are we in danger every hour? 31 I die[ah] daily— by[ai] your boasting, brothers, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If in accordance with human[aj] thinking I fought-wild-animals[ak] at Ephesus, what is the profit to me? If dead ones are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die” [Isa 22:13].

Don’t Be Deceived. Sober Up

33 Do not be deceived: bad companionships[al] corrupt good habits[am]. 34 Sober-up[an] righteously[ao] and do not be[ap] sinning, for some have an ignorance of God. I speak to your shame.

How Are The Dead Raised, And With What Kind of Body?

35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?”

What You Sow Must Die, And Then God Gives It New Life In a Different Body

36 Foolish one! What you sow is not given-life unless it dies. 37 And as to what you sow— you do not sow the body which will come, but a bare seed, perhaps of wheat or of some of the rest. 38 And God gives it a body just as He willed— indeed, to each of the seeds its own body[aq]. 39 Not all flesh is the same flesh. But there is one of humans, and another flesh of livestock, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish. 40 And there are heavenly[ar] bodies and earthly bodies. But the glory of the heavenly is one kind, and the glory of the earthly is different. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars. For star differs from star in glory.

So Also Is The Resurrection of The Dead. We Are Raised In a Heavenly Body

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in decay[as]; it is raised in undecayability[at]. 43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural[au] body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is[av] a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it has been written [in Gen 2:7], “The first man, Adam, became a living soul”. The Last Adam[aw] became a life-giving[ax] spirit. 46 But the spiritual body is not first— but the natural body, then the spiritual. 47 The first man was from earth, made-of-dust. The second Man is from heaven[ay]. 48 Such[az] as was the one made-of-dust— such ones also are the ones made-of-dust. And such as is the heavenly One— such ones also are the heavenly ones. 49 And just as we bore[ba] the image[bb] of the one made of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly One.

Behold, I Tell You a Mystery: We Will Not All Die, But We Will All Conquer Death

50 Now I say this, brothers: that flesh and blood are not able to inherit the kingdom of God, nor does decay inherit undecayability. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery[bc]: we will not all fall-asleep. But we will all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet. For it will trumpet, and the dead will be raised undecayable[bd], and we will be changed. 53 For this decayable body must put-on undecayability, and this mortal body must put on immortality[be]. 54 And when this decayable body puts-on undecayability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying having been written will come-about[bf]: “Death was swallowed-up in victory” [Isa 25:8]. 55 “Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your stinger?” [Hos 13:14]. 56 Now the stinger[bg] of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law[bh]. 57 But thanks be to God, the One giving us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

So Abound In The Work of The Lord; Your Labor Is Not In Vain

58 So then my beloved brothers, be[bi] steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not empty[bj] in the Lord.

Concerning The Collection For Jerusalem: Store Up Your Gift And Be Ready When I Come

16 Now concerning the collection for the saints[bk], just as I directed in the churches of Galatia, so you do also. Every first day of the week[bl], let each of you put-aside[bm] beside[bn] himself, storing-up[bo] whatever thing he may be prospered, in-order-that when I come, collections might not be taking place at-that-time. And when I arrive, whomever you approve, I will send these ones with letters[bp] to carry-forth your grace-gift to Jerusalem. And if it is fitting[bq] that I also go, they will go with me.

I Will Stay In Ephesus For Now, And Come To You Before Winter

Now I will come to you whenever[br] I go through Macedonia, for I am going through Macedonia. And perhaps I will continue with you, or even spend-the-winter, in order that you may send me forward wherever I may go. For I do not want to see you now in passing, for I am hoping to stay with you for some time, if the Lord permits[bs]. But I will stay-on in Ephesus until Pentecost, for a great and effective[bt] door has opened to me, and there are many opposing.

Timothy May Come Before Me: Take Care of Him

10 But if Timothy comes, see that he may come-to-be with you fearlessly[bu]. For he is working the work of the Lord as I also. 11 Therefore let no one treat him with contempt. And send him forward in peace in order that he may come to me, for I am waiting-for him with the brothers.

Concerning Apollos: He Will Come When He Can

12 Now concerning Apollos our brother, I strongly urged him that he come to you with the brothers. And it was not at all his will that he come now, but he will come whenever he finds-an-opportunity.

Closing Exhortations And Greetings

13 Keep-watching, be standing-firm in the faith, be acting-like-men[bv], be growing-strong, 14 let all your things be done in love.

15 And I exhort you, brothers— you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruit of Achaia[bw], and they appointed[bx] themselves for ministry to the saints— 16 that you also be subject to such ones, and to everyone helping[by] and laboring. 17 Now I am rejoicing over the coming[bz] of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because these ones filled-up your lack[ca]. 18 For they refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore be acknowledging such ones.

19 The churches of Asia[cb] greet you. Aquila and Prisca[cc] greet you earnestly in the Lord, along with the church at their house. 20 All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.

21 The greeting of Paul by my own hand— 22 if anyone does not love the Lord, let him be accursed. Marana tha[cd]. 23 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. 24 My love be with you all in Christ Jesus.

Paul[ce], an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God being in Corinth, together-with all the saints being in all Achaia[cf]: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed Be God For Comforting Us In All Our Sufferings

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassions[cg] and God of all comfort[ch], the One comforting us concerning[ci] all our affliction so that we might be able to comfort the ones in every affliction with the comfort by which we ourselves are being comforted by God. Because just as the sufferings of Christ are abounding in us, so our comfort also is abounding through Christ. And if we are being afflicted— it is for the sake of your comfort and salvation. If we are being comforted— it is for the sake of your comfort, the comfort being at-work[cj] in your endurance of the same sufferings which we also are suffering. And our hope for you is firm[ck], knowing that as you are sharers of the sufferings, so also of the comfort.

For We Despaired Even of Living, But God Delivered Us, And Will Deliver Us

For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, with-reference-to our affliction having taken place in Asia[cl], that we were burdened[cm] extremely beyond our power, so that we despaired[cn] even of living. But we had[co] the sentence of death in ourselves in order that we should not be trusting in ourselves, but in God, the One raising the dead, 10 Who delivered us from so great a death[cp], and will deliver us; in Whom we have put our hope that He will indeed[cq] still deliver us 11 you also joining-in-helping in your prayer for us— in-order-that thanks might be given on our behalf by many faces[cr] as to the gift granted to us through many prayers.

Our Boast As We Endure Our Suffering Is Our Blameless And Forthright Behavior Toward You

12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of [cs] our conscience that we conducted-ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, in simplicity[ct] and purity[cu] from God[cv]; and not in fleshly wisdom, but in the grace of God. 13 For we are writing no other things to you other than the things which you read or indeed understand. And I hope that you will understand until the end[cw] 14 just as you also did understand us in part— that we are your boast, even as you also are ours, on the day of our Lord Jesus.

And In This Confidence I Was Intending To Come To You First, Then Go To Macedonia

15 And in this confidence, I was intending first[cx] to come to you in order that you might have a second[cy] benefit[cz], 16 and[da] to go through you to Macedonia, and from Macedonia to come again to you, and to be sent-forward by you to Judea.

I Do Not Make My Plans Lightly, But I Changed My Plans In Order To Spare You

17 Therefore, while intending this, I did not then act with lightness, did I ? Or do I plan[db] the things which I plan according-to the flesh— so that[dc] there is with me the yes, yes, and the no, no? 18 But as God is faithful[dd], our message to you is not yes and no. 19 For God’s Son Jesus Christ, the One having been proclaimed among you by us— by me and Silvanus and Timothy— did not become[de] yes and no, but has become yes in Him. 20 For as many as there are promises of God, in Him is the yes[df]! Therefore also through Him is [spoken] the amen[dg] to God for His glory, through[dh] us. 21 And the One establishing us with you for[di] Christ and having anointed us is God— 22 the One also having sealed us and given the pledge[dj] of the Spirit in our hearts. 23 And I call-upon God as witness for my soul that sparing[dk] you I no longer came to Corinth— 24 not that we are lording-over your faith, but we are fellow-workers of [dl] your joy. For you stand in[dm] your faith[dn].

For I Did Not Want My Coming To Cause You Grief, So I Wrote To You Instead

For I determined this for myself: not to come to you again[do] in grief. For if I grieve you, who indeed is the one cheering me except the one being grieved by me? And I wrote this very[dp] thing in order that having come, I should not have grief from the ones of whom I ought-to-have rejoicing— having confidence in you all that my joy[dq] is the joy of you all.

I Wrote To You In Anguish Not To Grieve You, But Out of Love For You

For I wrote to you through many tears, out of much affliction and anguish of heart— not that you might be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have especially for you. But[dr] if anyone has caused-grief, he has grieved not me, but in part[ds] (that I not be a burden[dt]), you all. This[du] punishment by the majority is sufficient[dv] for such a one, so that on-the-contrary[dw], instead you should forgive and comfort him, that such a one should not somehow be swallowed-up by more grief. Therefore I urge you to confirm[dx] your love for him.

I Also Wrote To Test Your Obedience To God

For I also wrote for this purpose: that I might know your approvedness, whether you are obedient in all things. 10 And to whom you are forgiving anything, I also. For indeed what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, is for your sakes in the presence of Christ, 11 in order that we may not be exploited by Satan. For we are not unaware as to his schemes.

So Instead I Went To Macedonia First To Find Titus

12 Now[dy] having come to Troas for the good-news of Christ, and a door having been opened for me by the Lord, 13 I had no rest in my spirit at my not finding Titus my brother. But having said-goodbye to them, I went forth to Macedonia.

I Praise God That He Is Always Spreading The Aroma of Christ Through Us Everywhere

14 But thanks be to God, the One always leading us in triumph[dz] in Christ, and making the aroma of [ea] the knowledge of Him known through us in every place. 15 Because we are the fragrance of Christ for[eb] God among the ones being saved, and among the ones perishing— 16 to the ones an aroma from death to[ec] death, but to the others an aroma from life to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not like the many peddling[ed] the word of God. But as from purity, but as from God, we are speaking in Christ before God.

You Yourselves Are Proof To Everyone That God Is Working Through Us

Are we[ee] beginning to commend ourselves again? Or we do not have-need of letters of recommendation[ef] to you or from you, like some, do we? You are our letter— it having been inscribed in our hearts, it being known and being read by all people, you being made-known[eg] that you are a letter from[eh] Christ having been served by us, having been inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not in tablets made-of-stone but in tablets[ei] which are hearts made-of-flesh.

It Is God Who Makes Us Sufficient As Ministers of His New Covenant

And we have such[ej] a confidence through Christ toward God— not that we are sufficient[ek] from ourselves to count anything as out of ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, Who indeed made us sufficient as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives-life.

And This Ministry Is More Glorious Than That of The Old Covenant

And if the ministry of death having been engraved in letters on stones came in glory (so that the sons of Israel could not look-intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face[el]— the glory passing-away), how shall the ministry of the Spirit not be more in glory! For if in the ministry of condemnation there was glory, by much more the ministry of righteousness is abounding in glory. 10 For indeed the [ministry of the letter][em] having been glorified has not[en] been glorified in this respect— because of the surpassing glory! 11 For if the [ministry of the letter] passing-away was with glory, by much more the [ministry of the Spirit] remaining is in glory.

We Don’t Veil The Glory Like Moses. We Reflect It And Are Transformed By It

12 Therefore, having such a hope, we are using great boldness, 13 and are not like Moses. He was putting a veil on his face so that the sons of Israel might not look-intently at the end[eo] of the [face of glory][ep] passing-away. 14 But[eq] their minds were hardened[er], for until this very day the same[es] veil remains on the reading of the old covenant— it not being unveiled because[et] it passes-away[eu] in Christ. 15 Indeed[ev], until today whenever Moses is being read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 But whenever it[ew] turns to the Lord, the veil is taken-away. 17 Now the Lord[ex] is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! 18 But[ey] we all with a face having been unveiled, while reflecting[ez] the glory of the Lord as a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from glory[fa] to glory, just-as[fb] from the Lord[fc], the Spirit.

So We Don’t Lose Heart In This Ministry Or Its Reception; God Is Shining Through Us

For this reason, having this ministry even-as[fd] we received-mercy, we do not lose-heart. But we renounced the hidden things of [fe] shame, not walking in craftiness[ff], nor handling-deceitfully[fg] the word of God, but by the open-disclosure of the truth, commending[fh] ourselves to every conscience of mankind[fi] in the sight of God. And if indeed our good-news is veiled, it is veiled in the ones perishing, in whose case the god of this age blinded the minds of the unbelievers so that they might not see[fj] the illumination of the good-news of the glory of Christ— Who is the image of God. For we are not proclaiming ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus, because God, the One having said “Light will shine out of darkness”, is He Who shined in our hearts for[fk] the illumination of [fl] the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

God Is Making Life Known Through Clay Vessels Handed Over To Death

But[fm] we have this treasure in vessels made-of-clay, in order that the excess[fn] of the power may be God’s and not from us— in every way being afflicted[fo] but not restrained[fp], being perplexed but not utterly-perplexed, being persecuted but not forsaken, being struck down but not perishing; 10 at-all-times carrying-around in our body the dying[fq] of Jesus in order that the life of Jesus may also be made-evident[fr] in our body. 11 For we the ones living are always being handed-over to death for the sake of Jesus, in order that the life of Jesus may also be made-evident in our mortal flesh. 12 So then, death is at-work in us, but life in you.

But We Believe And Speak Because We Know God Will Raise Us Up With Jesus

13 But having the same spirit[fs] of faith in accordance with the thing having been written, “I believed, therefore I spoke” [Ps 116:10]— we also believe, therefore we also speak, 14 knowing that the One having raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes— in order that grace, having increased through the more people, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.

And Our Affliction Is Producing an Eternal Weight of Glory For Us In Heaven

16 Therefore we do not lose-heart. But even though our outer person is being destroyed[ft], nevertheless our inner person is being renewed day in and day out. 17 For the momentary lightness of our affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory extremely beyond measure, 18 while we are not looking-for[fu] the things being seen, but the things not being seen. For the things being seen are temporary, but the things not being seen are eternal. For we know that if our earthly house— our tent[fv]— is torn-down[fw], we have a building[fx] from God, a house not-made-by-human-hands, eternal, in the heavens.

We Do Indeed Groan In This Body And Would Prefer To Get Home To The Lord

For indeed in this tent we are groaning, yearning to put-on-over[fy] ourselves our dwelling from heaven— inasmuch[fz] as we, having taken-off [ga] this tent, shall not be found naked[gb]. For indeed we, the ones being in the tent[gc], are groaning, being burdened, because we do not want to take-off [gd] our earthly tent, but to put on our heavenly dwelling over it, in order that the mortal may be swallowed-up by the life. And the One having made us for this very thing is God, the One having given us His pledge: the Spirit. So while always being confident[ge], and knowing that while being-at-home in the body we are away-from-home, from the Lord (for we walk by faith, not by appearance[gf])— yet we are confident[gg] and prefer rather to get-away-from-home, out of the body, and to get-at-home with the Lord.

Therefore We Are Ambitious To Please Him By Persuading People

Therefore[gh] we indeed are ambitious[gi] to be pleasing to Him— whether being at-home or being away-from-home. 10 For we all must appear[gj] before the judgment-seat of Christ in order that each one might receive-back[gk] the things done in[gl] the body, in-accordance-with the things which he practiced, whether good or bad. 11 Therefore knowing the fear[gm] of the Lord, we are persuading[gn] people.

Now Our Heart Has Been Made Known To God, And I Hope To You. Boast In Us

Now[go] we have been made known to God. And I hope that we also have been made known in your consciences. 12 We are not again commending ourselves to you, but are giving you an opportunity for a boast about us, in order that you may have an answer for the ones boasting in appearance and not in heart. 13 For if we lost-our-senses, it is for God! If we are sound-minded, it is for you!

For The Love of Christ Controls Us As We Live a New Life For Him

14 For the love of [gp] Christ controls[gq] us, we having determined this— that One died for all, therefore all died. 15 And He died for all so that the ones living might no longer be living for themselves, but for the One having died and been raised for them. 16 So then from now on, we regard[gr] no one based-on[gs] the flesh[gt]. Even though we have known Christ based on the flesh, nevertheless now we no longer are knowing Him thus. 17 So then if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation[gu]. The old things passed-away; behold, new things have come-into-being[gv].

And God Gave Us This Ministry of Reconciliation As His Ambassadors

18 And all things are from God, the One having reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and having given us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 how that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself— not counting their trespasses against them, and[gw] having placed the message of reconciliation in us. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, since[gx] God is appealing through us.

We Are Begging People To Be Reconciled To God...

We are begging[gy] on behalf of Christ: “Be reconciled to God! 21 He made the One not having known sin to be sin for us, in order that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”...

We Are Appealing To You Too!

And working-with Him, we also are appealing that you not receive the grace of God in vain. For He says [in Isa 49:8], “I heard you at the acceptable time. And I helped you on the day of salvation”. Behold, now is the very-acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.

... In The Process Giving Them No Opportunity For Stumbling...

... in[gz] nothing giving any opportunity-for-stumbling, in order that the ministry may not be faulted,

... But Commending Ourselves While Enduring The Bad And Persevering In The Good

... but in everything, as God’s servants, commending ourselves in great endurance— in afflictions, in constraints, in distresses, in beatings, in prisons, in disturbances, in labors, in watchings[ha], in fastings; in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in a holy[hb] spirit, in sincere love, in the word[hc] of truth, in the power of God; through[hd] the weapons of [he] righteousness for the right hand and[hf] the left; through[hg] glory and dishonor, through evil-report[hh] and good-report; as deceivers and true ones, as being not-known and being fully-known; as dying and behold we live, as being disciplined and not being put-to-death, 10 as being grieved but always rejoicing; as poor but enriching many, as having nothing and holding-on-to all things.

Open Your Hearts To Us, Corinthians

11 Our mouth has opened to you, Corinthians; our heart has been opened-wide. 12 You are not restrained[hi] in us, but you are restrained in your own deep-feelings. 13 Now as[hj] the same return[hk]— I speak as to my children— you also open-wide.

Do Not Be Mis-Yoked To Unbelievers; Be Separated Out To God Your Father

14 Do not be ones being mis-yoked to unbelievers[hl]. For what partnership is there for righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship is there for light with darkness? 15 And what is the harmony[hm] of Christ with Beliar[hn]? Or what share is there for a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement[ho] is there for the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said [in Lev 26:12], that “I will dwell in them, and I will walk-among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people”. 17 Therefore, “Come out of their midst and be separated[hp]”, says the Lord, “and do not touch an unclean thing[hq]. And I will take you in 18 and be a father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to me”, says the Lord Almighty. Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every stain[hr] of flesh and spirit, perfecting[hs] holiness in the fear of God.

Make Room For Us In Your Hearts

Make-room-for us— we wronged no one, we corrupted[ht] no one, we exploited[hu] no one. I am not speaking for your condemnation. For I have said-before that you are in our hearts so as to die-together and to live-together. There is great confidence in me toward you. There is much boasting by me about you.

When I Found Titus In Macedonia, I Was Comforted By His Report About You

I have been filled with comfort. I am super-abounding with joy in all our affliction. For indeed we having come to Macedonia[hv], our flesh had no rest, but we were being afflicted in every way— battles[hw] outside, fears inside. But the One comforting the downcast[hx], God, comforted us by the coming of Titus; and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted over you while reporting to us your yearning, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced more.

I Am Rejoicing At Your Repentance And Actions After You Received My Letter

Because even though I grieved you by the letter[hy], I do not regret it. Even though I was regretting it (for I see that that letter grieved you, even though for an hour), now I am rejoicing— not that you were grieved, but that you were grieved into repentance. For you were grieved in-accordance-with God, in order that you might suffer-loss in nothing by us. 10 For the grief in accordance with God works unregretted repentance leading-to salvation. But the grief of the world produces death. 11 For behold this very thing— the being grieved in accordance with God— how much earnestness[hz] it produced in you; even a defense[ia], even indignation[ib], even fear, even yearning, even zeal, even punishment[ic]. In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in the matter. 12 So even though I wrote to you [causing grief], it was not[id] for the sake of the one having done wrong, nor for the sake of the one having been wronged, but for the sake of making your earnestness for us evident to you in the sight of God. 13 For this reason, we have been comforted.

I Rejoiced Even More At The Joy of Titus Over You

But in addition to our comfort, we rejoiced even more abundantly over the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. 14 Because if I have boasted anything to him about you, I was not put-to-shame. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, so also our boasting before Titus proved-to-be the truth. 15 And his deep-feelings are especially for you, while remembering the obedience of you all— how you received him with fear and trembling. 16 I am rejoicing because in everything I am confident in you.

Macedonia Gave Sacrificially, So We Urged Titus To Go Complete Your Gracious Gift

Now we make known to you, brothers, the grace of God having been granted in the churches of Macedonia[ie] that in a great test of [if] affliction their abundance of joy and their down deep poverty abounded into the riches of their generosity. Because I testify that they gave in accordance with their ability and beyond their ability, of-their-own-accord, with a great appeal begging from us the favor[ig] and the partnership[ih] in this ministry to the saints— and not as we hoped[ii], but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God— so that we urged[ij] Titus that just as he previously-began, so also he should complete this grace[ik] with reference to you also.

I Urge You To Abound In This Grace of Giving Because It Is Beneficial For You!

But just as you are abounding in everything— in faith and speech and knowledge and all earnestness, and in the love from us in you— I urge that you also be abounding in this grace. I am not speaking by way of command, but am proving[il] through the earnestness of others the genuineness of your love also. For you know the grace[im] of our Lord Jesus Christ— that for your sakes He became-poor while being rich, in order that you might become-rich by the poverty of that One. 10 And I am giving an opinion in this matter, for this[in] is beneficial for you, who began-beforehand from last year not only the doing, but the wanting to do. 11 But now indeed complete the doing, so that just as was the eagerness of the wanting, so also may be the completing out of what you have.

A Gift Proportionate To Your Abundance Is Acceptable For Their Need

12 For if the eagerness is there, it [io] is acceptable to whatever degree a person may have, not to-the-degree he does not have. 13 For it is not in order that there may be rest[ip] for others, affliction[iq] for you, but out of equality[ir] 14 at the present time your abundance[is] being for the need of those ones, in order that the abundance of those ones also may come-to-be for your need, so that there may be equality. 15 Just as it has been written [in Ex 16:18], “The one gathering much did not increase[it], and the one gathering little did not have-less”.

Titus Was Eager To Go To You. So Demonstrate Your Love For All To See

16 Now thanks be to God, the One having given the same[iu] earnestness[iv] for you in the heart of Titus. 17 Because he welcomed the urging[iw]— but being more[ix] earnest, went-out[iy] to you of-his-own-accord! 18 And we sent with him the brother[iz] whose praise in[ja] the good-news is through all the churches, 19 and not only this, but who was also appointed[jb] by the churches to be our fellow-traveler with this grace-gift being ministered by us for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our eagerness[jc] 20 avoiding this: that anyone should fault[jd] us in this abundance being ministered by us. 21 For we are providing-for[je] good things not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of people. 22 And we sent with them our brother whom we often proved in many things as being diligent, but now is much more diligent with great confidence in you. 23 If any ask[jf] about Titus— he is my partner and fellow-worker for you; if as to our brothers[jg]they are delegates[jh] of the churches, a glory of [ji] Christ. 24 Therefore, be demonstrating[jj] to them, to the face[jk] of the churches, the demonstration of your love and our boasting about you.

For I Have Boasted of Your Eagerness To Others, So I Want You Ready When I Come

For indeed, it is superfluous for me to write to you concerning the ministry[jl] to the saints. For I know your eagerness, which I am boasting about you to the Macedonians— that “Achaia has been prepared [to give] since last year”. And your zeal stirred-up the majority. But I sent the brothers in order that our boast about you might not be made-empty in this respect: in order that, just as I was saying, you may be prepared, that we should not somehow be put-to-shame (that I not say you) in this confidence[jm] if Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared. Therefore I regarded it necessary to urge the brothers that they go-ahead to you and prepare-beforehand your previously-promised blessing[jn], that this may be ready thus as a blessing and not as greediness[jo].

Sow For Blessings, As You Freely Choose In Your Hearts: God Loves a Cheerful Giver

Now this[jp] I say: the one sowing sparingly will also reap sparingly. And the one sowing for[jq] blessings will also reap for blessings. Each should give just as he has chosen-beforehand[jr] in his heart— not out of grief [js] or out of compulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to cause all grace to abound to you in order that in everything, always having all sufficiency, you may be abounding for every good work. Just as it has been written [in Ps 112:9], “He scattered, he gave to the needy ones, his righteousness remains forever”.

God Will Multiply Your Seed And Fruit, And Your Gift Will Abound To His Glory

10 And the One supplying seed to the one sowing[jt], and bread for eating, will supply and multiply your seed, and will grow the fruits of [ju] your righteousness. 11 In everything you will be enriched for all generosity, which through[jv] us is going to produce thanksgiving to God, 12 because the ministry of [jw] this service[jx] is not only going to be filling-up the needs of the saints, but also abounding through many thanksgivings to God! 13 Through the approvedness of this ministry, they will be glorifying God for the obedience of [jy] your confession to[jz] the good-news of Christ, and the generosity[ka] of the contribution for them and for all, 14 while they also are yearning-for you in prayer for you because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift[kb].

Now Don’t Make Me Have To Act Boldly Against Some of You, For My Weapons Are Powerful

10 Now I, Paul, myself, am appealing-to you by the gentleness and kindness of Christ— I who face-to-face am lowly among you, but while absent am-bold toward you! And I am begging that I may not [have to] be bold[kc] while present with the confidence with which I am considering to dare [to act] against some considering us as walking in accordance with the flesh[kd]. For [though] walking in the flesh, we are not waging-war in accordance with the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly[ke], but powerful in[kf] God for the tearing-down of fortresses. We are tearing-down[kg] considerations[kh] and every height[ki] being raised-up against the knowledge of God, and taking-captive every thought[kj] to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish[kk] all disobedience[kl], when your obedience is fulfilled[km].

If I Boast In My Authority In Christ, I Will Not Be Put To Shame

You are[kn] looking at things according to appearance. If someone[ko] is confident in himself that he is Christ’s[kp], let him consider this again in himself: that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we. For if I should boast anything more about our authority, which the Lord gave for building-up and not for tearing you down, I shall not be put-to-shame— in order that I may not seem[kq] as-if I would [merely] frighten you by my letters! 10 Because “The letters”, he[kr] says, “are weighty and strong, but the presence of his body is weak, and his speaking is treated-with-contempt[ks]”. 11 Let such a one consider this: that such as we are in word by letters while absent, such ones we are also in deed while present!

For I Do Not Commend Myself Or Compare Myself To Others

12 For we do not dare to class or compare ourselves with some of the ones commending themselves. But they— measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves— do not understand[kt].

And I Do Not Boast In Unmeasured Things Or In The Labors of Others

13 And we will not boast in unmeasured[ku] things, but in-relation-to[kv] the measure of [kw] the standard[kx] which God apportioned to us as a measure: to reach as far as even you. 14 For we are not, as-if not reaching to you, overextending ourselves. For we arrived even as far as you in connection with the good-news of Christ!— 15 not boasting in unmeasured things, in labors belonging-to-others, but having the hope, while your faith is growing, that we might be enlarged[ky] in[kz] you in relation to our standard of measure, for an abundance; 16 that we might announce-the-good-news in the regions beyond[la] you, not that we might boast in the prepared things in the standard of measure belonging-to-another.

The One The Lord Commends Is The Approved One

17 But “let the one boasting be boasting in the Lord” [Jer 9:24]. 18 For not that one commending himself is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

I Am Jealous For You, For I Fear That You Are Being Corrupted By False Messengers

11 O-that you would bear-with me as to a little bit[lb] of foolishness— but indeed, keep-bearing-with[lc] me! For I am jealous-for[ld] you with a jealousy[le] of [lf] God. For I betrothed[lg] you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am fearing that as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds[lh] should somehow be corrupted[li] from sincerity[lj] and purity for[lk] Christ. For indeed if the one coming proclaims another Jesus whom we did not proclaim, or you receive a different spirit which you did not receive, or a different good-news which you did not accept— you bear-with him nicely!

For I Come Short of No Other Apostle, Especially In Knowledge

For I think that I have in no way come-short-of [ll] the superlative[lm] apostles. But even though I am untrained in speech, nevertheless I am not in knowledge. But in every way we made this evident in all things to you.

Or Did I Sin By Not Letting You Pay Me?

Or[ln] did I commit a sin [by] humbling myself in order that you might be exalted— because I freely[lo] announced-as-good-news to you the good-news of God? I robbed[lp] other churches, having taken rations[lq] from them for your ministry! And while being present with you and having been in-need, I did not burden anyone— for the brothers having come from Macedonia supplied my need. And in every way I kept and will keep myself unburdensome to you.

I Won’t Stop This Boast, For It Cuts Off The Opportunity For False Apostles

10 As the truth of Christ is[lr] in me, this boasting[ls] will not be stopped for me in the regions of Achaia! 11 For what reason? Because I do not love you? God knows I do. 12 But what I am doing, I indeed will do in order that I may cut-off the opportunity[lt] of the ones wanting an opportunity that they might be found to be just as also we in what they are boasting. 13 For such ones are false-apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if also his ministers are disguising themselves as ministers of righteousness— whose end shall be according to their works.

Don’t Think Me Foolish, But I Too Can Boast

16 Again I say, let no one think me to be foolish. Otherwise indeed, receive me even if as foolish, in order that I also may boast a little bit! 17 In this confidence[lu] of boasting[lv], what I am speaking, I am not speaking according-to the Lord, but as in foolishness.

I Also Can Boast In My Heritage And My Service For Christ

18 Since many are boasting according-to the flesh, I also will boast! 19 For with-pleasure you bear-with the unwise[lw], being wise. 20 For you bear-with it if anyone enslaves[lx] you, if anyone devours[ly] you, if anyone takes you, if anyone lifts-up[lz] himself, if anyone beats[ma] you in the face. 21 I speak in-accordance-with my dishonor[mb]— how that we have been weak! But in whatever anyone may dare to boast— I am speaking in foolishness— I also dare. 22 Are they Hebrews? I also. Are they Israelites? I also. Are they seed of Abraham? I also. 23 Are they servants of Christ? I speak being distraught[mc], I more— in far-more labors, in far-more prisons, in many-more beatings, in deaths[md] often.

But I Will Boast In The Things Pertaining To My Weakness

24 By Jews five-times I received forty lashes less one. 25 Three-times I was beaten-with-rods. Once I was stoned. Three-times I was shipwrecked. I have done a night-and-day in the deep. 26 On journeys often— in dangers from rivers, in dangers from robbers, in dangers from my nation[me], in dangers from Gentiles, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers at sea, in dangers among false-brothers. 27 In labor and hardship, in watchings[mf] often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. 28 Apart from the external[mg] things, there is the daily pressure[mh] on me, the concern for all the churches— 29 who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is caused-to-fall, and I do not burn[mi]? 30 If it-is-necessary[mj] to boast, I will boast the things of my weakness! 31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, the One being blessed[mk] forever, knows that I am not lying. 32 In Damascus, the ethnarch[ml] of Aretas[mm] the king was guarding the city of the Damascenes to seize me. 33 And I was lowered in a basket through a window through the wall and escaped his hands.

I Could Boast In My Visions And Revelations From The Lord

12 It-is-necessary to boast. It is not beneficial[mn], but I will come to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago— whether in the body, I do not know, or outside of the body, I do not know. God knows— that such a one was snatched-away[mo] to the third heaven. And I know such a man— whether in the body or apart from the body, I do not know. God knows— that he was snatched away into paradise, and heard unspeakable words which are not permitted for a man to speak. I will boast on behalf of such a one. But I will not boast on behalf of myself, except in the weaknesses. For if I should desire to boast, I will not be foolish, for I will be speaking the truth; but I am sparing you, that no one might credit to me beyond what he sees as to me, or hears as to something from me.

But God’s Power Is Perfected In Weakness, So I Will Boast In My Weaknesses

And[mp] for the excess[mq] of the revelations— for-this-reason, in order that I might not be exalted[mr], a thorn in the flesh was given to me; a messenger of Satan to[ms] beat[mt] me in order that I might not be exalted. I appealed-to the Lord about this three-times, that it[mu] might depart from me. And He has said to me: “My grace is sufficient[mv] for you. For My power is perfected[mw] in weakness”. Therefore most-gladly[mx] I will rather boast in my weaknesses in order that the power of Christ may dwell upon me. 10 For this reason I am well-pleased with weaknesses, with insults[my], with constraints, with persecutions and distresses for the sake of Christ. For whenever I am weak, at that time I am powerful[mz].

I Ought To Be Commended By You, For I Did The Signs of The Apostle Among You

11 I have become foolish— you compelled me! For I ought to be being commended by you! For I in no way came-short-of the superlative[na] apostles, even though I am nothing; 12 the signs[nb] of the apostle were produced among you in[nc] all endurance in both signs and wonders, and miracles.

My Only Shortcoming Is Not Letting You Pay Me! I Will Gladly Spend Myself For You!

13 For what is it as to which you were worse-off [nd] than the other churches?— except that I myself did not burden[ne] you. Forgive me this wrong-doing! 14 Behold— this is the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden. For I am not seeking your things, but you. For the children ought not to be storing-up for the parents, but the parents for the children. 15 But I will most gladly spend and be expended for your souls— though while loving you more, I am[nf] loved less!

And Everyone I Sent You Did The Same As I

16 But let it[ng] be— I did not weigh you down, but being crafty, I took you by deceit! 17 As to anyone of whom I have sent-out to you— I did not exploit you through him, did I ? 18 I urged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Titus did not exploit you, did he? Did we not walk in the same spirit? In the same footsteps?

In All This I Am Speaking To Edify You, Lest I Should Have To Come And Mourn Over You

19 All-this-time are you thinking[nh] that we are defending-ourselves to you? We are speaking before God in Christ— and speaking all things, beloved, for the sake of your edification. 20 For I am fearing that having come, I may somehow find you to be not such as I want and I may be found by you to be such as you do not want— that somehow there may be strife, jealousy, rages[ni], selfish-interests, slanders, whisperings, puffings [with pride], disorders[nj]; 21 that I having come again[nk], my God should humble me before you, and I should mourn many of the ones having previously-sinned and not having repented over[nl] the impurity and sexual-immorality and sensuality which they practiced.

When I Come I Will Not Spare Those Seeking Proof of Christ Speaking In Me

13 This is the third time I am coming[nm] to you. Every word shall be established based-on the mouth of two and three witnesses. I have said-before and I am saying-beforehand, as being-present[nn] the second time and being-absent now, to the ones having previously-sinned and to all the rest— that if I come again I will not spare you, since you are seeking a proof of Christ speaking in me, Who is not weak toward you, but is strong in you. For indeed He was crucified because-of weakness[no], but He lives because-of the power of God. For indeed we are weak in Him, but we will live with Him because of the power of God toward you.

Prove Yourselves, That Christ Is In You!

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith! Prove[np] yourselves! Or do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?— unless indeed you are disapproved[nq]. But I hope that you will come-to-know that we are not disapproved.

We Are Praying For You

And we are praying to God that you may not do anything bad[nr]— not in order that we may appear approved[ns], but in order that you may be doing the good, and we may be as[nt] disapproved. For we cannot do anything against the truth, but [only] for the truth. For we are rejoicing whenever we are weak but you are strong. This also we are praying— your restoration[nu].

I Am Writing So I Don’t Have To Act Severely When I Come

10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent— in order that while being-present, I may not act severely[nv] according-to[nw] the authority which the Lord gave me for building-up and not for tearing-down.

11 Finally, brothers, be rejoicing[nx], be restored[ny], be exhorted[nz], be thinking the same thing, be living-in-peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you. 14 The grace of [oa] the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of [ob] God and the fellowship of [oc] the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Paul[od]an apostle not from humans nor through a human, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, the One having raised Him from the dead— and all the brothers with me, to the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, the One having given Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us out of the present evil age in accordance with the will of our God and Father, to Whom be the glory forever and ever, amen.

Are You Turning Away From The Gospel I Received Through a Revelation From Christ?

I am marveling that you are so quickly[oe] turning-away from the One having called you by the grace of Christ to a different good-news— which is not another[of] [good news]— except there are some disturbing you and intending[og] to change[oh] the good-news of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should[oi] announce-a-good-news to you other-than[oj] what we announced-as-good-news to you, let him be accursed[ok]. As we have said-before I am also now saying again— if anyone is[ol] announcing-a-good-news-to you other-than what you received, let him be accursed. 10 For am I now trying to win-approval-of [om] humans or God? Or am I seeking to please humans? If I were still[on] seeking to please humans, I would not be a slave of Christ! 11 For I make-known to you, brothers, as to the good-news having been announced-as-good-news by me, that it is not according-to[oo] a human[op]. 12 For I neither received it from a human, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of [oq] Jesus Christ.

For When God Was Pleased To Reveal Himself To Me, I Conferred With No One

13 For you heard-of my former conduct in Judaism— that I was persecuting the church of God extremely, and destroying[or] it. 14 And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many contemporaries in my nation, being far more a zealot for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when God— the One having separated me from my mother’s womb[os] and having called me through His grace— was well-pleased 16 to reveal His Son in me in order that I might be announcing Him as good news among the Gentiles, I did not immediately communicate[ot] with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to the apostles before me, but I went away to Arabia and returned back to Damascus.

Three Years Later I Went To Jerusalem And Visited Peter And James

18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and stayed with him fifteen days. 19 But I did not see another of the apostles except[ou] James, the brother of the Lord. 20 Now the things which I am writing to you, behold— I affirm in the sight of God that I am not lying. 21 Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. 22 And I was not-known by face to the churches of Judea in Christ, 23 but they were only hearing that “the one once persecuting us is now announcing-as-good-news the faith which he was once destroying”. 24 And they were glorifying God in[ov] me.

Fourteen Years Later The Jerusalem Apostles Added Nothing To My Gospel

Then after fourteen years I again went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas, having also taken along Titus with me. And I went up based-on[ow] a revelation, and laid-before them the good-news which I am proclaiming among the Gentiles— but privately, to the ones having-the-reputation-of [ox] being somethingthat somehow[oy] I might not be running, or have run, in vain[oz]. But not even Titus, the one with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. Now[pa] this arose[pb] because of the false-brothers secretly-brought-in, who sneaked-in to spy-out our freedom which we have in Christ Jesus in order that they might enslave[pc] us— to whom we yielded in submission not-even for an hour, in order that the truth of the good-news might continue[pd] with you. And from the ones having-the-reputation-of being something— of-what-sort they ever[pe] were makes no difference to me; God does not receive the face[pf] of a human— indeed to me the ones having-the-reputation communicated nothing. But on-the-contrary, having seen that I have been entrusted the good-news for the uncircumcised just as Peter for the circumcised— for the One having worked[pg] in Peter for an apostleship of the circumcised worked also in me for the Gentiles— and having recognized the grace having been given to me, James and Cephas and John, the ones having-the-reputation-of being pillars, gave the right hands of fellowship to me and Barnabas, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 They asked only that we should be remembering[ph] the poor— as to which, I also was eager to do this very thing.

In Antioch I Rebuked Peter When He Erred With Respect To Gentile Christians

11 And when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face— because he was condemned[pi]. 12 For before certain ones came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles. But when they came, he was drawing-back and separating himself, fearing[pj] the ones of the circumcision. 13 And the other Jews also joined-in-hypocrisy with him, so that even Barnabas was carried-away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were not walking-straight[pk] with regard to the truth of the good-news, I said to Cephas in front of everyone— “If you being a Jew are living Gentile-ly[pl] and not Jewish-ly[pm], how is it you are compelling the Gentiles to Judaize[pn]?”

Even We Jews Are Declared Righteous By Faith In Christ, Not By Works of The Law

15 We[po] are Jews by nature, and not sinners from the Gentiles. 16 But knowing that a person[pp] is not declared-righteous by works of the Law except[pq] through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, in order that we might be declared-righteous by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law, because by works of the Law no flesh will be declared-righteous.

And We Died To The Law As a Rule of Life, And Now Live By Faith In The Son of God

17 But if [pr] while seeking to be declared-righteous in Christ, we also ourselves were found to be sinners[ps], is then Christ a minister of sin[pt]? May it never be! 18 For if I am building again these[pu] things which I tore-down[pv], I am demonstrating[pw] myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the Law I died to the Law in order that I might live to God. I have been crucified-with Christ! 20 And I no longer am living, but Christ is living in me. And what I am now[px] living in the flesh[py], I am living by[pz] faith in the Son of God— the One having loved me and handed Himself over for me. 21 I am not setting-aside[qa] the grace of God! For if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died without-a-reason!

Who Has Bewitched You? Do You Live By The Spirit And Faith, Or The Flesh And Law?

O foolish Galatians, who bewitched[qb] you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was portrayed[qc] as crucified? I want to learn only this from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law or by the hearing[qd] of [qe] faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun-with[qf] the Spirit are you now perfecting-yourselves[qg] with the flesh? Did you suffer[qh] so many things in-vain— if indeed it really was in-vain? Did then the One supplying[qi] you the Spirit and working miracles among you do it because-of [qj] works of the Law, or because-of the hearing of faith?

The Children of Abraham Are The Ones Living By Faith, Not By The Law

Just as Abraham “ believed God and it was credited to him for righteousness” [Gen 15:6], know then that the ones of [qk] faith— these are the sons[ql] of Abraham. Now the Scripture, having foreseen that God declares the Gentiles righteous by faith, announced-the-good-news-beforehand to Abraham: that “All the Gentiles will be blessed in[qm] you”[Gen 12:3]. So then the ones of faith are being blessed together-with Abraham, the man-of-faith[qn]. 10 For all-who are of the works of the Law are under a curse, for it has been written that “Cursed is everyone who is not continuing-in[qo] all the things having been written in the book of the Law, that he might do them”[Deut 27:26]. 11 And that no one is declared-righteous by[qp] the Law before God is evident[qq], because “The righteous one will live by faith” [Hab 2:4]. 12 But the Law is not of faith, but “The one having done these things shall live by them” [Lev 18:5]. 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us— because it has been written, “Cursed is everyone hanging on a tree” [Deut 21:23]— 14 in order that the blessing of [qr] Abraham might come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, in order that we might receive the promise of [qs] the Spirit through faith.

God’s Promises To Abraham Were Not Cancelled By The Law Which Came Later

15 Brothers, I speak in accordance with human thinking: Though it is [a covenant] of a human, no one sets-aside or adds-conditions-to a covenant having been ratified. 16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed[qt]. He[qu] does not say [in Gen 13:15] “and to seeds”, as-though speaking in reference to many; but as-though speaking in reference to one, “and to your seed”— who is Christ. 17 And this I say: the Law, having come-about after four-hundred and thirty years, does not un-ratify[qv] the covenant having been previously-ratified by God, so as to do-away-with[qw] the promise. 18 For if the inheritance is of [qx] the Law, it is no longer of the promise. But God has freely-given it to Abraham through the promise!

The Law Was Added Because of Transgressions, Until The Christ Should Come

19 Why then the Law? It was added because of the transgressions until which time the Seed should come to Whom the promise has been made, having been commanded[qy] through angels by the hand of a mediator[qz]. 20 Now a mediator is not [a mediator] of [only] one [party], but God is one[ra].

The Law Served To Lead Us To Faith In Christ So As To Inherit The Abrahamic Promises

21 Is the Law then against the promises of God? May it never be! For if a Law being able to give-life had been given, righteousness really would have been by the Law! 22 But the Scripture confined all things under[rb] sin, in order that the promise by faith[rc] in Jesus Christ might be given to the ones believing. 23 And before the faith[rd] came, we were being kept-in-custody[re] under the Law— being confined until[rf] the faith destined to be revealed. 24 So then the Law has been[rg] our tutor[rh] leading-to[ri] Christ, in order that we might be declared-righteous by faith. 25 But the faith having come, we are no longer under a tutor!
