43 (M)Now these are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king of the sons of Israel reigned. Bela was the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
44 Then Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of (N)Bozrah became king in his place.
45 Then Jobab died, and Husham of the land of (O)the Temanites became king in his place.
46 Then Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who struck down Midian in the field of Moab, became king in his place; and the name of his city was Avith.

Now the chiefs of Edom were:

These were the chiefs of Edom.
Generations of David
2 (P)These are the sons of Israel:
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
2 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
3 (Q)The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah; these three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was evil in the sight of [t]Yahweh, so He put him to death.
4 (R)Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah.
Judah had five sons in all.
5 The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
6 The sons of Zerah were [u]Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and [v]Dara;
five of them in all.
7 The [w]son of Carmi was [x](S)Achar, the troubler of Israel, who violated what was devoted to destruction.
8 The [y]son of Ethan was Azariah.
9 Now the sons of Hezron, who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.
10 Ram [z]became the father of Amminadab,
and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah;
11 Nahshon became the father of Salma,
Salma became the father of Boaz,
12 Boaz became the father of Obed,
and Obed became the father of Jesse;
13 and Jesse became the father of Eliab his firstborn, then Abinadab the second, [aa]Shimea the third,
14 Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,
15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh;
16 and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail.
And the three sons of Zeruiah were [ab]Abshai, Joab, and Asahel.
17 Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was [ac]Jether the Ishmaelite.
11 But on (A)that very night, the Lord stood at his side and said, “(B)Take courage; for (C)as you have (D)solemnly borne witness to My cause at Jerusalem, so you must bear witness at Rome also.”
A Plot to Kill Paul
12 Now when it was day, (E)the Jews formed a [a]conspiracy and (F)bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. 13 And there were more than forty who formed this scheme. 14 They came to the chief priests and the elders and said, “We have (G)bound ourselves under a curse to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. 15 So now you, along with (H)the Sanhedrin, notify the commander to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more carefully; and we for our part are ready to slay him before he comes near.”
16 But when the son of Paul’s sister heard of their ambush, [b]he came and entered (I)the barracks and reported it to Paul. 17 And Paul called one of the centurions to him and said, “Lead this young man to the commander, for he has something to report to him.” 18 So he took him and led him to the [c]commander and *said, “Paul (J)the prisoner called me to him and asked me to lead this young man to you since he has something to tell you.” 19 And the [d]commander took him by the hand and stepping aside, began to inquire of him privately, “What is it that you have to report to me?” 20 And he said, “(K)The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down tomorrow to (L)the Sanhedrin, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more carefully about him. 21 So do not be persuaded by them, for more than forty of them—who have (M)bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they slay him—are (N)lying in wait for him and now they are ready and waiting for the promise from you.” 22 So the commander let the young man go, instructing him, “Tell no one that you have notified me of these things.”
Paul Is Brought to Caesarea
23 And when he called to him two of the centurions, he said, “Make ready two hundred soldiers, [e]seventy horsemen, and two hundred [f]spearmen to proceed to (O)Caesarea by the [g]third hour of the night, 24 and provide mounts to put Paul on and bring him safely to (P)Felix the governor.” 25 And he wrote a letter having this form:
26 “Claudius Lysias, to the (Q)most excellent governor Felix, (R)greetings.
27 “When this man was arrested by the Jews and was about to be slain by them, (S)I came up to them with the troops and rescued him, (T)having learned that he was a Roman.
28 And (U)wanting to ascertain the charge for which they were accusing him, I (V)brought him down to their (W)Sanhedrin;
29 and I found him to be accused over (X)questions about their Law, but [h]under (Y)no accusation deserving death or [i]imprisonment.
30 “And when I was (Z)informed that there would be (AA)a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, also instructing (AB)his accusers to speak against him before you.”
31 So the soldiers, according to their orders, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. 32 But the next day, leaving (AC)the horsemen to go on with him, they returned to (AD)the barracks. 33 When these had come to (AE)Caesarea and delivered the letter to (AF)the governor, they also presented Paul to him. 34 And when he had read it, he asked from what (AG)province he was, and when he learned that (AH)he was from Cilicia, 35 he said, “I will give you a hearing after your (AI)accusers arrive also,” giving orders for him to be (AJ)kept in Herod’s [j]Praetorium.
Yahweh, Save Me
A Psalm of David. When [a]he fled from Absalom his son.
3 O Yahweh, how (A)my adversaries have become many!
Many are rising up against me.
2 Many are saying [b]of my soul,
“There is no (B)salvation for him in God.” [c]Selah.
3 But You, O Yahweh, are (C)a shield about me,
My (D)glory, and the One who (E)lifts my head.
4 I was calling to Yahweh with my voice,
And He (F)answered me from (G)His holy [d]mountain. Selah.
5 [e]I (H)lay down and slept;
I awoke, for Yahweh sustains me.
6 I will (I)not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who all around (J)have set themselves against me.
