Version
Amos 1-3

Judgment on Neighbor Nations

The words of Amos, who was among the (A)sheepherders from (B)Tekoa, which he [a]envisioned in visions concerning Israel in the days of (C)Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of (D)Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the (E)earthquake.

He said,
“The (F)Lord roars from Zion
And from Jerusalem He utters His voice;
And the shepherds’ (G)pasture grounds mourn,
And the [b](H)summit of Carmel dries up.”

Thus says the Lord,
“For (I)three transgressions of (J)Damascus and for four
I will not [c]revoke its punishment,
Because they threshed Gilead with implements of sharp iron.
“So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael
And it will consume the citadels of (K)Ben-hadad.
“I will also (L)break the gate bar of Damascus,
And cut off the inhabitant from the [d]valley of Aven,
And him who holds the scepter, from Beth-eden;
So the people of Aram will go exiled to (M)Kir,”
Says the Lord.

Thus says the Lord,
“For three transgressions of (N)Gaza and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they deported an entire population
To (O)deliver it up to Edom.
“So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza
And it will consume her citadels.
“I will also cut off the inhabitant from (P)Ashdod,
And him who holds the scepter, from (Q)Ashkelon;
I will even [e]unleash My [f]power upon Ekron,
And the remnant of the (R)Philistines will perish,”
Says the Lord [g]God.

Thus says the Lord,
“For three transgressions of (S)Tyre and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they delivered up an entire population to Edom
And did not remember the covenant of [h](T)brotherhood.
10 “So I will (U)send fire upon the wall of Tyre
And it will consume her citadels.”

11 Thus says the Lord,
“For three transgressions of (V)Edom and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because he (W)pursued his brother with the sword,
While he [i]stifled his compassion;
His anger also (X)tore continually,
And he maintained his fury forever.
12 “So I will send fire upon (Y)Teman
And it will consume the citadels of Bozrah.”

13 Thus says the Lord,
“For three transgressions of the sons of (Z)Ammon and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they (AA)ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
In order to (AB)enlarge their borders.
14 “So I will kindle a fire on the wall of (AC)Rabbah
And it will consume her citadels
Amid [j](AD)war cries on the day of battle,
And a (AE)storm on the day of tempest.
15 “Their (AF)king will go into exile,
He and his princes together,” says the Lord.

Judgment on Judah and Israel

Thus says the Lord,

“For three transgressions of (AG)Moab and for four
I will not [k]revoke its punishment,
Because he (AH)burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.
“So I will send fire upon Moab
And it will consume the citadels of (AI)Kerioth;
And Moab will die amid (AJ)tumult,
With [l]war cries and the sound of a trumpet.
“I will also cut off the [m](AK)judge from her midst
And slay all her (AL)princes with him,” says the Lord.

Thus says the Lord,
“For three transgressions of (AM)Judah and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they (AN)rejected the law of the Lord
And have not kept His statutes;
Their [n](AO)lies also have led them astray,
Those after which their (AP)fathers walked.
“So I will (AQ)send fire upon Judah
And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”

Thus says the Lord,
“For three transgressions of (AR)Israel and for four
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they (AS)sell the righteous for money
And the needy for a pair of sandals.
“These who [o]pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the (AT)helpless
Also (AU)turn aside the way of the humble;
And a (AV)man and his father [p]resort to the same [q]girl
In order to profane My holy name.
“On garments (AW)taken as pledges they stretch out beside (AX)every altar,
And in the house of their God they (AY)drink the wine of those who have been fined.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the (AZ)Amorite before them,
[r]Though his (BA)height was like the height of cedars
And he was strong as the oaks;
I even destroyed his (BB)fruit above and his root below.
10 “It was I who (BC)brought you up from the land of Egypt,
And I led you in the wilderness (BD)forty years
[s]That you might take possession of the land of the (BE)Amorite.
11 “Then I (BF)raised up some of your sons to be prophets
And some of your young men to be (BG)Nazirites.
Is this not so, O sons of Israel?” declares the Lord.
12 “But you made the Nazirites drink wine,
And you commanded the prophets saying, ‘You (BH)shall not prophesy!’
13 “Behold, I am [t](BI)weighted down beneath you
As a wagon [u]is weighted down when filled with sheaves.
14 [v](BJ)Flight will perish from the swift,
And the stalwart will not strengthen his power,
Nor the (BK)mighty man save his [w]life.
15 “He who (BL)grasps the bow will not stand his ground,
The swift of foot will not escape,
Nor will he who rides the (BM)horse save his [x]life.
16 “Even the [y]bravest among the warriors will (BN)flee naked in that day,” declares the Lord.

All the Tribes Are Guilty

Hear this word which the Lord has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire [z](BO)family which [aa]He brought up from the land of Egypt:

(BP)You only have I [ab]chosen among all the families of the earth;
Therefore I will [ac](BQ)punish you for all your iniquities.”
Do two men walk together unless they have made an [ad]appointment?
Does a (BR)lion roar in the forest when he has no prey?
Does a young lion [ae]growl from his den unless he has captured something?
Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground when there is no [af]bait in it?
Does a trap spring up from the earth when it captures nothing at all?
If a (BS)trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble?
If a (BT)calamity occurs in a city has not the Lord done it?
[ag]Surely the Lord [ah]God does nothing
Unless He (BU)reveals His secret counsel
To His servants the prophets.
A (BV)lion has roared! Who will not fear?
The (BW)Lord [ai]God has spoken! (BX)Who can but prophesy?

Proclaim on the citadels in (BY)Ashdod and on the citadels in the land of Egypt and say, “Assemble yourselves on the (BZ)mountains of Samaria and see the great tumults within her and the (CA)oppressions in her midst. 10 But they (CB)do not know how to do what is right,” declares the Lord, “these who (CC)hoard up [aj]violence and devastation in their citadels.”

11 Therefore, thus says the Lord God,

“An (CD)enemy, even one surrounding the land,
Will pull down your [ak]strength from you
And your (CE)citadels will be looted.”

12 Thus says the Lord,

“Just as the shepherd [al](CF)snatches from the lion’s mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear,
So will the sons of Israel dwelling in Samaria be [am]snatched away—
With the (CG)corner of a bed and the [an](CH)cover of a couch!
13 “Hear and (CI)testify against the house of Jacob,”
Declares the Lord God, the God of hosts.
14 “For on the day that I punish Israel’s transgressions,
I will also punish the altars of (CJ)Bethel;
The horns of the altar will be cut off
And they will fall to the ground.
15 “I will also smite the [ao](CK)winter house together with the (CL)summer house;
The houses of [ap](CM)ivory will also perish
And the (CN)great houses will come to an end,”
Declares the Lord.

Revelation 2:1-17

Message to Ephesus

“To the angel of the church in (A)Ephesus write:

The One who holds (B)the seven stars in His right hand, the One who walks [a](C)among the seven golden lampstands, says this:

(D)I know your deeds and your toil and [b]perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you (E)put to the test those who call themselves (F)apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have [c]perseverance and have endured (G)for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have (H)left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and (I)repent and (J)do the [d]deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your (K)lampstand out of its place—unless you repent. Yet this you do have, that you hate the deeds of the (L)Nicolaitans, which I also hate. (M)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (N)To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of (O)the tree of life which is in the (P)Paradise of God.’

Message to Smyrna

“And to the angel of the church in (Q)Smyrna write:

(R)The first and the last, who [e](S)was dead, and has come to life, says this:

‘I know your (T)tribulation and your (U)poverty (but you are (V)rich), and the blasphemy by those who (W)say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of (X)Satan. 10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be (Y)tested, and you will have tribulation (Z)for ten days. [f]Be (AA)faithful until death, and I will give you (AB)the crown of life. 11 (AC)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (AD)He who overcomes will not be hurt by the (AE)second death.’

Message to Pergamum

12 “And to the angel of the church in (AF)Pergamum write:

The One who has (AG)the sharp two-edged sword says this:

13 ‘I know where you dwell, where (AH)Satan’s throne is; and you hold fast My name, and did not deny (AI)My faith even in the days of Antipas, My (AJ)witness, My (AK)faithful one, who was killed among you, (AL)where Satan dwells. 14 But (AM)I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the (AN)teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, (AO)to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality. 15 So you also have some who in the same way hold the teaching of the (AP)Nicolaitans. 16 Therefore (AQ)repent; or else (AR)I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with (AS)the sword of My mouth. 17 (AT)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (AU)To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden (AV)manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a (AW)new name written on the stone (AX)which no one knows but he who receives it.’

Psalm 129

Prayer for the Overthrow of Zion’s Enemies.

A Song of Ascents.

129 [a]Many times they have [b](A)persecuted me from my (B)youth up,”
(C)Let Israel now say,
[c]Many times they have [d]persecuted me from my youth up;
Yet they have (D)not prevailed against me.
“The plowers plowed upon my back;
They lengthened their furrows.”
The Lord (E)is righteous;
He has cut in two the (F)cords of the wicked.

May all who (G)hate Zion
Be (H)put to shame and turned backward;
Let them be like (I)grass upon the housetops,
Which withers before it [e]grows up;
With which the reaper does not fill his [f]hand,
Or the binder of sheaves his (J)bosom;
Nor do those who pass by say,
“The (K)blessing of the Lord be upon you;
We bless you in the name of the Lord.”

Proverbs 29:19-20

19 A slave will not be instructed by words alone;
For though he understands, there will be no response.
20 Do you see a man who is (A)hasty in his words?
There is (B)more hope for a fool than for him.
