Adventure Bible Family Devotions

Duration: 365 days

Making It Hard for the Enemy

Alex’s friend Jake rappelled down the climbing wall. He came down fast, kicking himself off the wall each time he swung toward it. “I made it to the top,” he said after landing on the mat. “Your turn!” Alex said, “I’ll try.”

The attendant gave Alex some pointers while helping him put on the harness. “One more thing,” the man said as he finished adjusting it. “Always make sure you have a good hold on the wall before you try to climb higher.” Alex nodded. Then he grabbed the highest “rock” he could reach. Putting his toe on a lower one, he started climbing. Things went smoothly at first. But about halfway up he fell. Swinging on the safety rope, he told Jake, “I guess I didn’t have a good foothold!”

When you stay angry, you give the Devil a foothold in your heart. A foothold can be the jutting rock a climber uses to conquer a mountain. Or it can be the captured land an army uses to conquer a country. Don’t give Satan a foothold so he can conquer you! Get rid of your anger. Praying about it will help. So will talking with people you’re angry at and choosing to forgive them. That’ll make things much harder for the Enemy.

Bible Verse: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. – Ephesians 4:26-27

Words to Treasure: Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger. – Ephesians 4:31
