¹⁹ For Pharaoh’s horses went, with his chariots and horsemen, into the sea; and the LORD brought the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

²⁰ And Miriam the Prophetess, sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women came out after her, with timbrels and dances.

²¹ And Miriam answered the men, “Sing to the LORD! For He has triumphed gloriously! He has overthrown the horse and his rider in the sea!”

²² Then Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water.

²³ And when they came to Marah, they could not drink from the water of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore, the name of the place was called “Marah”.

²⁴ Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

²⁵ And he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast into the waters, the waters became sweet. There He made an ordinance and a law to them; and there He tested them,

²⁶ and said, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD, Your God, and will do that which is right in His sight, and will hear His Commandments, and keep all His Ordinances, then I will bring none of these diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians. For I am the LORD Who heals you.”

²⁷ And they came to Elim, where there were twelve fountains of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.

16 Afterward, all the Congregation of the children of Israel departed from Elim, and came to the wilderness of Sin, (which is between Elim and Sinai) on the fifteenth day of the second month, after their departure from the land of Egypt.

² And the whole Congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses, and against Aaron, in the wilderness.

³ For the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate bread, our bellies full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole company with famine.”

⁴ Then, the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will cause bread to rain from Heaven to you. And the people shall go out and gather that which is sufficient for each day, so that I may test them (whether they will walk in My law or not).

⁵ “But, on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they shall bring home; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

⁶ Then, Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening, you shall know that the LORD brought you out of the land of Egypt.

⁷ “And in the morning, you shall see the Glory of the LORD. For He has heard your complaints against the LORD. And what are we, that you have murmured against us?”

⁸ Again, Moses said, “At evening, the LORD shall give you meat to eat, and in the morning your fill of bread. For the LORD has heard your murmurings which you murmur against Him. For what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.”

⁹ And Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the Congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Draw near before the LORD. For He has heard your murmurings.’”

¹⁰ Now, as Aaron spoke to the whole Congregation of the children of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness. And behold, the Glory of the LORD appeared in a cloud.

¹¹ (For the LORD had spoken to Moses, saying,

¹² “I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Therefore, tell them and say, ‘At evening you shall eat meat; and in the morning you shall be filled with bread.’ And you shall know that I am the LORD your God).

¹³ And so, at evening, the quails came and covered the camp. And in the morning, the dew lay all around the camp.

¹⁴ And when the dew that had fallen had lifted, behold, a small round flakey thing was upon the face of the wilderness, small as the frost upon the earth.

¹⁵ And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

¹⁶ “This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Every man gather from it according to his need (an omer per man, according to the number of your people). Every man shall take for those who are in his tent.”

¹⁷ And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

¹⁸ And when they measured it with an omer, he who had gathered much, had nothing left over. And he who had gathered little, had no lack. So, every man gathered according to his eating.

¹⁹ Then Moses said to them, “Let no man save it until morning.”

²⁰ Nevertheless, they did not obey Moses. But some of them saved it until morning. And it was full of worms and stank. Therefore, Moses was angry with them.

²¹ And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating. For when the heat of the Sun came, it melted.

²² And on the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread (two omers per man). Then, all the rulers of the Congregation came and told Moses.

²³ And he answered them, “This is that which the LORD has said, ‘Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake that which you will bake today, and boil that which you will boil; and lay up all that remains, to be kept for yourself until morning.’”

²⁴ And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses instructed. And it did not stink, nor was there any worm in it.

²⁵ Then Moses said, “Eat that today. For today is the Sabbath to the LORD. Today, you shall not find it in the field.

²⁶ “Six days you shall gather it; but the seventh day is the Sabbath. On it, there shall be none.”

²⁷ Nevertheless, some of the people went out to gather on the seventh day; and they found none.

²⁸ And the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep My Commandments, and My Laws?

²⁹ “Behold, how the LORD has given you the Sabbath. Therefore, on the sixth day, He gives you bread for two days. Therefore, every man should remain in his place. Let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.”

³⁰ So, the people rested on the seventh day.

³¹ And the House of Israel called the name of it “manna”. And it was like white coriander seed. And the taste of it was like wafers with honey.

³² And Moses said, “This is that which the LORD had commanded, ‘Fill an omer of it to keep for your posterity; so that they may see the bread with which I have fed you in wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”

³³ Moses also said to Aaron, “Take a pot and put an omer-full of manna in it; and set it before the LORD, to be kept for your posterity.”

³⁴ As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

³⁵ And the children of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

³⁶ (An omer is one tenth of an ephah).

17 And all the Congregation of the children of Israel departed from the wilderness of Sin (breaking camp at the Commandment of the LORD), and camped in Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.

² Therefore, the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, so that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you tempt the LORD?”

³ So the people thirsted for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us out of Egypt like this, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?”

⁴ And Moses cried to the LORD, saying, “What shall I do to this people? For they are almost ready to stone me.”

⁵ And the LORD answered Moses, “Go before the people; and take the elders of Israel with you. And take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river; and go.

⁶ “Behold, I will stand there before you upon the rock in Horeb. And you shall strike the rock and water shall come out of it, so that the people may drink.” And Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁷ And he called the name of the place, “Massah” and “Meribah”, because of the contention of the children of Israel and because they had tempted the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?”

⁸ Then, Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, “Pick out men for us, and go fight with Amalek. Tomorrow, I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”

¹⁰ So, Joshua did as Moses commanded him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.

¹¹ And when Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed. But when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed.

¹² Now, Moses’ hands were heavy. Therefore, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat upon it. And Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and the other on the other side. So, his hands were steady until the the sun went down.

¹³ And Joshua weakened Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

¹⁴ And the LORD said to Moses, “Write this for a remembrance in the book, and recount it to Joshua. For I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under Heaven.”

¹⁵ And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, “Jehovah Nissi” (the LORD is my Banner).

¹⁶ Also, he said, “The LORD has sworn that He will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

18 When Jethro, the Priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard all that God had done for Moses and for Israel, His people (how the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt),

² then, Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses, took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, (after he had sent her away)

³ and her two sons, one of whom was called Gershom (for he said, ‘I have been an alien in a strange land’);

⁴ and the name of the other was Eliezer (for he said, ‘The God of my father was my help and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh’).

⁵ And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came into the wilderness, to Moses and his two sons and his wife, where he camped by the Mount of God.

⁶ And he said to Moses, “I, your father-in-law, Jethro, have come to you and your wife and her two sons with her.”

⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed down, and kissed him. And each asked the other of his welfare. And they came into the tent.

⁸ Then Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians, for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had come to them on the way, and how the LORD delivered them.

⁹ And Jethro rejoiced at all the goodness which the LORD had shown to Israel, because He had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

¹⁰ Therefore, Jethro said, “Blessed be the LORD, Who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; Who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

¹¹ “Now I know that the LORD is greater than all the gods. For they had dealt proudly with them.”

¹² Then, Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took burnt offerings and sacrifices to God. And Aaron, and all the elders of Israel, came to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.

¹³ Now, the next day, when Moses sat to judge the people, the people stood around Moses from morning to evening.

¹⁴ And when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did for the people, he said, “What is this that you do for the people? Why do you sit by yourself, and all the people stand around you from morning to evening?”

¹⁵ And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to seek God.

¹⁶ “When they have a matter, they come to me; and I judge between one and another and declare the ordinances of God and His laws.”

¹⁷ But Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing which you do is not good.

¹⁸ “You greatly weary both yourself and these people who are with you. For the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it by yourself.

¹⁹ “Now, hear my voice. I will give you counsel; and God shall be with you. Represent the people before God, and report disputes to God,

²⁰ “and warn them of the ordinances, and of the laws. And show them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do.

²¹ “Moreover, provide men of courage among all the people, men who fear God, dealing truly, hating covetousness. And appoint over them rulers over thousands, rulers over hundreds, rulers over fifties, and rulers over tens.

²² “And let them judge the people in all seasons. But, let them bring every great matter to you. And let them judge all small causes. So, it shall be easier for you when they shall bear the burden with you.

²³ “If you do this thing, and God so commands you, you shall be able to endure and all these people shall also go quietly to their place.”

²⁴ So, Moses obeyed the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said.

²⁵ And Moses chose men of courage out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers over thousands, rulers over hundreds, rulers over fifties, and rulers over tens.

²⁶ And they judged the people in all seasons; and they brought the hard causes to Moses. For they judged all small matters themselves.

²⁷ Afterward, Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went into his country.

19 In the third month following the children of Israel’s going out of the land of Egypt, on that same day, they came into the wilderness of Sinai.

² For they departed from Rephidim and came to the desert of Sinai and camped in the wilderness. It was there Israel camped before the Mount.

³ But Moses went up to God. For the LORD had called from out of the Mount to him, saying, “Thus shall you say to the House of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel,

⁴ ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. And I carried you upon eagle’s wings and have brought you to Me.

⁵ ‘Now, therefore, if you will indeed hear My voice, and keep My Covenant, then you shall be My chief treasure above all people (though all the Earth is Mine).

⁶ ‘You shall also be to Me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

⁷ Then, Moses came and called for the elders of the people. And to them he proposed all these things which the LORD commanded him.

⁸ And the people all answered together, and said, “All that the LORD has commanded, we will do.” And Moses reported the words of the people to the LORD.

⁹ And the LORD said to Moses, “Lo, I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear while I talk with you, and so that they may also believe you forever.” For Moses had told the words of the people to the LORD.

¹⁰ Moreover, the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and sanctify them, today and tomorrow; and let them wash their clothes.

¹¹ “And let them be ready on the third day. For on the third day the LORD will come down, in the sight of all the people, upon Mount Sinai.

¹² “And you shall set boundaries all around the people, saying, ‘Be careful that you do not go up to the mount, nor touch the border of it. Whoever touches the mount shall surely die.’

¹³ “No hand shall touch it, or he shall be stoned to death or struck through with arrows. Whether beast or man, he shall not live. When the horn blows long, they shall come up onto the mountain.”

¹⁴ Then Moses went down from the mount to the people and sanctified the people. And they washed their clothes.

¹⁵ And he said to the people, “Be ready on the third day. And do not come near your wives.”

¹⁶ And the third day, when it was morning, there was thunder and lightning and a thick cloud upon the mount and the sound of the trumpet, exceedingly loud, so that all the people who were in the camp were afraid.

¹⁷ Then Moses brought the people out of the tents to meet with God. And they stood at the foot of the mount.

¹⁸ And Mount Sinai was engulfed in smoke, because the LORD came down upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended, as the smoke of a furnace, and all the mount trembled exceedingly.

¹⁹ And when the sound of the trumpet blew long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spoke. And God answered him by voice.

²⁰ For the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mount. And when the LORD called Moses up onto the top of the mount, Moses went up.

²¹ Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down and remind the people not to break their boundaries and go up to the LORD to gaze, lest many of them perish.

²² “Also, let the priests who come to the LORD be sanctified, lest the LORD destroy them.”

²³ And Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up onto Mount Sinai. For You have charged us, saying, ‘Set boundaries on the mountain, and sanctify it.’”

²⁴ And the LORD said to him, “Go. Get down and come up. You and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break their boundaries to come up to the LORD, lest He destroy them.”

²⁵ So Moses went down to the people and told them.

20 Then God spoke all these Words, saying,

² “I am the LORD your God, Who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

³ “You shall have no other gods before Me.

⁴ “You shall make no graven image, nor any likenesses which are in Heaven above, nor which are in the earth beneath, nor which are in the waters under the earth.

⁵ “You shall neither bow down to them nor serve them. For I am the LORD your God, a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generations of those who hate Me.

⁶ “And showing mercy to thousands of those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

⁷ “You shall not lift up the Name of the LORD your God in a frivolous way. For the LORD will not hold him guiltless who lifts up His Name frivolously.

⁸ “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

⁹ “Six days shall you labor and do all your work.

¹⁰ “But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. On it, you shall not do any work—you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maid, nor your beast, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

¹¹ “For in six days, the LORD made the sky and the earth, the sea, and all that therein are, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it.

¹² “Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged upon the land which the LORD your God gives you.

¹³ “You shall not murder.

¹⁴ “You shall not commit adultery.

¹⁵ “You shall not steal.

¹⁶ “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

¹⁷ “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; nor shall you covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

¹⁸ And all the people saw the thunder and the lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking. And when the people saw it they fled and stood at a distance,

¹⁹ and said to Moses, “Talk with us and we will hear! But do not let God talk with us, lest we die!”

²⁰ Then Moses said to the people, “Do not fear. For God has come to test you, and to lay His fear before you, so that you do not sin.”

²¹ So, the people stood at a distance. But Moses drew near to the darkness where God was.

²² And the LORD said to Moses, “Thus shall you say to the children of Israel: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you from Heaven.

²³ ‘You shall not make gods of silver equal to Me, nor gods of gold. You shall not make any.

²⁴ ‘You shall make an altar of earth to Me. And thereupon you shall offer your burnt offerings, and your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen. I will come to you and bless you in all places where I shall put the remembrance of My Name.

²⁵ ‘But if you make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it from hewn stones. For if you use your tool upon them, you have polluted them.

²⁶ ‘Nor shall you go up to My altar by steps, so that your filthiness is not discovered thereupon.’”

21 “Now, these are the laws which you shall set before them:

² “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years; and in the seventh, he shall go out free, for nothing.

³ “If he came by himself, he shall go out by himself. If he is married, then his wife shall go out with him.

⁴ “If his master has given him a wife, and she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s. But he shall go out by himself.

⁵ “But, if the servant says this: ‘I love my master, my wife and my children, I will not go out free,’

⁶ “then his master shall bring him to the judges and bring him to the door (or to the post) and his master shall pierce his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.

⁷ “Likewise, if a man sells his daughter to be a servant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

⁸ “If she does not please her master, who has betrothed her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no power to sell her to a strange people, seeing he has deceived her.

⁹ “But, if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of the daughters.

¹⁰ “If he takes another wife, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.

¹¹ “And if he does not do these three things for her, then she shall go out free, paying no money.

¹² “He who strikes a man, and he dies, shall die the death.

¹³ “But, if a man did not lie in wait, but God offered him into his hand, then I will appoint a place where he shall flee.

¹⁴ “But, if a man comes presumptuously upon his neighbor, to kill him with craftiness, you shalt take him from My altar, so that he may die.

¹⁵ “Also, he who strikes his father or his mother, shall die the death.

¹⁶ “And, he who steals a man and sells him, or if he is found with him, shall die the death.

¹⁷ “And, he who curses his father or his mother, shall die the death.

¹⁸ “Also, when men strive together and one strikes another with a stone, or with the fist, and he does not die, but is bedridden,

¹⁹ “if he rises again and walks outside with his staff, then he who struck him shall be acquitted. He shall only pay his charges for his idle time and shall pay for his healing.

²⁰ “And if a man strikes his servant (or his maid) with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.

²¹ “But, if he endures for a day, or two days, he shall not be punished. For he is his money.

²² “Also, if men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her child departs from her, but death does not follow, he shall surely be punished according to the woman’s husband’s demands, or he shall pay as the judges determine.

²³ “But, if death does follow, then you shall pay life for life,

²⁴ “eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

²⁵ “burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

²⁶ “And if a man strikes his servant in the eye, or his maid in the eye, and has destroyed it, he shall let him go free because of his eye.

²⁷ “Also, if he knocks out his servant’s tooth, or his maid’s tooth, he shall let him go out free because of his tooth.

²⁸ “If an ox gores a man or a woman so that he dies, the ox shall be stoned to death and his flesh shall not be eaten. But the owner of the ox shall be acquitted.

²⁹ If the ox was known to push in times past and it has been told to his master and he has not controlled him. And if afterward, he kills a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned; and his owner shall die also.

³⁰ “If a sum of money is imposed upon him, then he shall pay the ransom for his life, whatever shall be laid upon him.

³¹ “Whether it has gored a son or gored a daughter, it shall be judged in the same manner.

³² “If the ox gores a servant or a maid, he shall give their master thirty shekels of silver; and the ox shall be stoned.

³³ “And when a man opens a well (or when he digs a pit) and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls therein,

³⁴ “the owner of the pit shall make it good, giving money to the owner thereof. And the dead beast shall become his.

³⁵ “And if a man’s ox hurts his neighbor’s ox, so that he dies, then they shall sell the live ox and divide the money thereof; and they shall also divide the dead ox.

³⁶ “Or if it is known that the ox tended to push in times past, and his master has not controlled him, he shall pay ox for ox; but the dead shall become his own.”

22 “If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for the ox, and four sheep for the sheep.

² “If a thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, no blood shall be shed because of him.

³ “But, if a thief is found in the daylight, blood shall be shed because of him. He should make full restitution. If he does not have it, then he should be sold for his theft.

⁴ “If the theft is found with him alive, (whether ox, donkey, or sheep) he shall restore it double.5 “If a man causes a field or vineyard to be grazed and puts in his beast to feed in another man’s field, he shall repay from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.

⁶ “If fire breaks out and spreads to the thorns and the stacks of corn (or the standing corn) or the field is consumed, he who kindled the fire shall make full restitution.

⁷ “If a man gives his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of his house, if the thief be found, he shall pay double.

⁸ “If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought to the judges, to determine whether he has put his hand into his neighbor’s goods.

⁹ “In all types of trespass, whether it is for oxen, for donkeys, for sheep, for clothing, or for any type of lost thing which another claims to be his, the cause of both shall come before the judges. Whomever the judges condemn shall pay double to the neighbor.

¹⁰ “If a man gives his donkey, or ox, or sheep, or any beast, to his neighbor to keep and it dies (or is hurt, or taken away by enemies) and no one sees it,

¹¹ “an oath of the LORD shall be between the two of them that he has not put his hand into his neighbor’s goods. And the owner of it shall take the oath; and he shall not seek restitution.

¹² “But, if it is stolen from the neighbor, he shall make restitution to the owner thereof.

¹³ “If it is torn to pieces, he shall bring evidence and shall not be required to make restitution for that which was devoured.

¹⁴ “And if a man borrows anything from his neighbor and it is injured or dies, and the owner thereof is not there, he shall surely make restitution.

¹⁵ “If the owner thereof is there, he shall not make restitution. For if it is a hired thing, it came for its hire.

¹⁶ “And if a man entices a maid who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall endow her and take her as his wife.

¹⁷ “If her father refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

¹⁸ “You shall not allow a witch to live.

¹⁹ “Whoever lies with an animal, shall die the death.

²⁰ “He who offers to any god other than the LORD alone, shall be designated for destruction.

²¹ “Moreover, you shall not do injury to a stranger, nor oppress him. For you were both strangers in the land of Egypt.

²² “You shall not trouble any widow or fatherless child.

²³ “If you afflict or trouble such, so that he calls and cries to Me, I will surely hear his cry.

²⁴ “Then, My wrath be shall kindled; and I will kill you with the sword. And your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

²⁵ “If you lend money to My people who are poor among you, you shall not be as a moneylender to him. You shall not oppress him with usury.

²⁶ “If you take your neighbor’s clothing as a pledge, you shall restore it to him before the Sun goes down.

²⁷ “For that is his only covering. It is his garment for his skin. In what shall he sleep? Therefore, when he cries to Me, I will hear him. For I am merciful.

²⁸ “You shall not revile the judges, nor speak evil of the ruler of your people.

²⁹ “You shall not hold back your abundance or your liquor. You shall give Me the firstborn of your sons.

³⁰ “You shall do likewise with your oxen and with your sheep. For seven days it shall be with its mother, and the eighth day you shall give it to Me.

³¹ “You shall be a holy people to Me. You shall not eat any flesh that has been torn by beasts in the field. You shall cast it to the dog.”

23 “You shall not bring a false report, nor shall you put in your hand with the wicked, to be a false witness.

² “You shall not follow a multitude to evil, nor testify in a dispute to follow after many and pervert justice.

³ “You shall not be partial to a poor man in his cause.

⁴ “If you meet your enemy’s ox, or his donkey, going astray, you shall bring it back to him.

⁵ “If you see your enemy’s donkey lying under his load, and would decline to help him, you shall indeed help him up again with it.

⁶ “You shall not pervert the rights of the poor in his suit.

⁷ “You shall keep yourself far from a false matter. You shall kill neither the innocent nor the righteous. For I will not justify the wicked.

⁸ “You shall take no gifts. For a gift blinds the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

⁹ “You shall not oppress a stranger. For you know the heart of a stranger, seeing you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

¹⁰ “Moreover, six years you shall sow your land, and gather its fruits.

¹¹ “But the seventh year, you shall let it rest, and lie still, so that the poor of your people may eat. And what they leave, the wild animals shall eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard and with your olive trees.

¹² “Six days you shall do your work; and on the seventh day you shall rest, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your maid and the stranger may be refreshed.

¹³ “And you shall pay attention to all things which I have said to you. And you shall make no mention of the name of other gods, nor shall it be heard from your mouth.

¹⁴ “You shall keep a Feast to Me three times during the year.

¹⁵ “You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread: You shall eat unleavened bread for seven days, as I commanded you, in the season of the month of Abib. For in it, you came out of Egypt. And no one shall appear before Me empty.

¹⁶ Also, The Feast of the Harvest of the first fruits of your labors (which you have sown in the field) and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you have gathered in your labors from the field.

¹⁷ “Three times in the year shall all your male children appear before the Lord GOD.

¹⁸ “You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread. Nor shall the fat of My sacrifice remain until the morning.

¹⁹ “The first of the firstfruits of your land, you shall bring into the House of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.

²⁰ “Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you on your way, and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.

²¹ “Pay attention to him and hear his voice. Do not provoke him. For he will not spare your misdeeds, because my Name is in him.

²² “But if you listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and will afflict those who afflict you.

²³ “For My angel shall go before you, and bring you to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I will destroy them.

²⁴ “You shall neither bow down to their gods nor serve them nor do according the works of them. But utterly overthrow them and break their images in pieces.

²⁵ “For you shall serve the LORD your God; and He shall bless your bread and your water. And I will take all sickness away from the midst of you.

²⁶ “No one shall miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days.

²⁷ “I will send My fear before you and will destroy all the people among whom you shall go. And I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.

²⁸ “And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you.

²⁹ “I will not cast them out from before you in one year, lest the land grow into a wilderness, and the wild animals multiply against you.

³⁰ “I will gradually drive them out from before you, until you increase and inherit the land.

³¹ “And I will make your boundaries from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the river. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and you shall drive them out from before you.

³² “You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods.

³³ “Nor shall they dwell in the land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it shall surely be to your destruction.”

24 Now, he had said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD—you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. And you shall worship at a distance.

² “And Moses, by himself, shall come near to the LORD. But they shall not come near, nor shall the people go up with him.”

³ Afterward, Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the Laws. And all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the things which the LORD has said, we will do.”

⁴ And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early, and set up an altar under the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

⁵ And he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings of oxen, and sacrificed peace offerings to the LORD.

⁶ Then, Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins; and he sprinkled half of the blood on the altar.

⁷ Afterward, he took the Book of the Covenant, and read it in the audience of the people, who said, “All that the LORD has said, we will do, and be obedient.”

⁸ Then, Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Behold, the blood of the Covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all these things.”

⁹ Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.

¹⁰ And they saw the God of Israel. And under His feet was, as it were, a pavement of sapphire stone, as clear as the sky itself.

¹¹ But He did not lay His hand upon the nobles of the children of Israel. They, also, saw God, and ate and drank.

¹² And the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to Me onto the mountain, and be there. And I will give you Tablets of stone, and the Law, and the Commandment which I have written, to teach them.”

¹³ Then Moses and his minister, Joshua, rose up. And Moses went up onto the Mountain of God,

¹⁴ and said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has any matters, let him come to them.

¹⁵ Then, Moses went up to the mount; and the cloud covered the mountain.

¹⁶ And the Glory of the LORD remained upon Mount Sinai; and the cloud covered it for six days. And the seventh day, He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

¹⁷ And the sight of the Glory of the LORD on the top of the mountain was like a consuming fire in the eyes of the children of Israel.

¹⁸ And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and went up to the mountain. And Moses was on the mount for forty days and forty nights.

25 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

² “Speak to the children of Israel, so that they receive an offering for Me. You shall take the offering for Me from every man whose heart gives it freely.

³ “And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold and silver, and copper,

⁴ “and blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen and goat’s hair,

⁵ “and ram’s skins (colored red), and the skins of badgers, and shittim wood,

⁶ “oil for the light, spices for anointing oil and for the perfume of sweet savor,

⁷ “onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate.

⁸ “Also they shall make Me a Sanctuary, so that I may dwell among them.

⁹ “Exactly according to all that I show you, shall you make the form of the Tabernacle, and the fashion of all its instruments.

¹⁰ “They shall also make an Ark of shittim wood, two and a half cubits long, and a cubit and a half broad, and a cubit and a half high.

¹¹ “And you shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and outside shall you overlay it, and shall make a gold border all around it.

¹² “And you shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them in its four corners. That is, two rings shall be on one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it.

¹³ “And you shall make poles of shittim wood and cover them with gold.

¹⁴ “Then you shall put the poles in the rings, on the sides of the Ark, and carry the Ark with them.

¹⁵ “The poles shall be in the rings of the Ark. They shall not be taken away from it.

¹⁶ “So, you shall put the Testimony (which I shall give you) in the Ark.

¹⁷ “Also, you shall make a Mercy Seat of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half broad.

¹⁸ “And you shall make two Cherubims of gold; of work beaten out with a hammer you shall make them, at the two ends of the Mercy Seat.

¹⁹ “And you shall make one Cherub at one end, and the other Cherub at the other end. From one piece you shall make the Cherubims with the Mercy Seat, on its two ends.

²⁰ “And the Cherubims shall stretch their wings on high, covering the Mercy Seat with their wings and their faces toward one another. Toward the Mercy Seat shall the faces of the Cherubims be.

²¹ “And you shall put the Mercy Seat on top of the Ark. And in the Ark you shall put the Testimony which I will give you.

²² “And there I will declare Myself to you. And from above the Mercy Seat, between the two Cherubims which are upon the Ark of the Testimony, I will tell you all things which I will give you in Commandment to the children of Israel.

²³ “You shall also make a Table of shittim wood, two cubits long, one cubit broad, and a cubit and a half high.

²⁴ “And you shall cover it with pure gold and make a border of gold all around it.

²⁵ “You shall also make a rim for it all around, the width of a handbreadth. And you shall make a golden border all around the rim of it.

²⁶ “After, you shall make four rings of gold for it, and shall put the rings on the four corners which are on its four feet.

²⁷ “The rings shall be close to the border, as places for poles, to carry the Table.

²⁸ “And you shall make the poles of shittim wood, and shall overlay them with gold, so that the Table may be carried with them.

²⁹ “You shall also make dishes for it, and cups for it, and coverings for it, and goblets, with which it shall be covered. Of fine gold you shall make them.

³⁰ “And you shall set Showbread upon the Table before Me continually.

³¹ “Also, you shall make a Lampstand of pure gold. Of work beaten out with a hammer shall the Lampstand be made. Its shaft and its branches, its bowls, its knobs and its flowers shall be of the same.

³² “Also, six branches shall come out of the sides of it—three branches of the Lampstand out of one side of it, and three branches of the Lampstand out of the other side of it.

³³ “Three bowls are to be like almonds, one knob and one flower in one branch. And three bowls are to be like almonds in the other branch, one knob and one flower. So it is throughout the six branches that come out of the Lampstand.

³⁴ “And in the shaft of the Lampstand shall be four bowls like almonds, with its knobs and its flowers.

³⁵ “And there shall be a knob under its first pair of branches, and a knob under its second pair of branches, and a knob under its third pair of branches, according to the six branches coming out of the Lampstand.

³⁶ “Their knobs and their branches shall be one piece. All this shall be one beaten work of pure gold.

³⁷ “And you shall make the seven Lamps for it. And you shall put on the Lamps for it, so as to give light toward that which is before it.

³⁸ “Also, its snuffers and snuff dishes shall be of pure gold.

³⁹ “You shall make it from a talent of fine gold, with all these instruments.

⁴⁰ “See, therefore, that you make them after the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”

26 “Afterward, you shall make the Tabernacle, with ten curtains of fine-twined linen and blue silk, and purple, and scarlet. And in them you shall make Cherubims of skilled workmanship.

² “The length of one curtain shall be 28 cubits, and the breadth of one curtain four cubits. Every one of the curtains shall have the same measure.

³ “Five curtains shall be coupled to one another; and the other five curtains shall be coupled to one another.

⁴ “And you shall make loops of blue silk upon the edge of one curtain, which is at the outermost edge of the coupling. And you shall make the same loops on the outermost edge of the other curtain, in the second coupling.

⁵ “You shall make fifty loops on one curtain; and you shall make fifty loops on the edge of the curtain which is in the second coupling. The loops shall be directly opposite each other.

⁶ “You shall also make fifty clasps of gold and couple the curtains to each another with the clasps. And it shall be one Tabernacle.

⁷ “Also, you shall make curtains of goats’ hair, to be a covering upon the Tabernacle. You shall make eleven curtains.

⁸ “The length of a curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the breadth of a curtain four cubits. The eleven curtains shall be the same length.

⁹ “And you shall couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves. And you shall double over the sixth curtain upon the front of the covering.

¹⁰ “And you shall make fifty loops on the edge of one curtain, on the outermost end of the coupling, and fifty loops on the outermost edge of the curtain in the second coupling.

¹¹ “Likewise, you shall make fifty clasps of copper and fasten them on the loops, and shall couple the covering together, so that it may be one.

¹² “And the remnant that remains in the curtains of the covering, the half- curtain that remains, shall be left at the back side of the Tabernacle.

¹³ “A cubit on one side and a cubit on the other side (of that which is left in the length of the curtains of the covering) may remain on either side of the Tabernacle, to cover it.

¹⁴ “Moreover, for that covering, you shall make a covering of rams’ skins, (dyed red) and a covering of badgers’ skins above that.

¹⁵ “Also, you shall make boards of shittim wood for the Tabernacle, to stand upright.

¹⁶ “The length of a board shall be ten cubits; and the breadth of one board shall be one and a half cubits.

¹⁷ “Two tenons shall be set in one board, to join two boards together. Thus shall you make it for all the boards of the Tabernacle.

¹⁸ “And you shall make boards for the Tabernacle, twenty boards on the south side.

¹⁹ “And you shall make forty pedestals of silver under the twenty boards, two pedestals under one board for its two tenons, and two pedestals under another board for its two tenons.

²⁰ “In the same way, on the other side of the Tabernacle, toward the north side, there shall be twenty boards

²¹ “and their forty pedestals of silver, two pedestals under one board and two pedestals under another board.

²² “And on the side of the Tabernacle, toward the west, you shall make six boards.

²³ “Also, you shall make two boards in the corners of the Tabernacle, on the two sides.

²⁴ “Also, they shall be joined beneath, and they shall be joined above, to a ring. It shall be this way for them both. They shall be for the two corners.

²⁵ “So they shall be, eight boards having pedestals of silver (sixteen pedestals), with two pedestals under one board and two pedestals under another board.

²⁶ “Then, you shall make five poles of shittim wood, for the boards of one side of the Tabernacle

²⁷ “and five poles for the boards of the other side of the Tabernacle (also, five poles for the boards of the west side of the Tabernacle).

²⁸ “And the middle bar shall go through the midst of the boards, from end to end.

²⁹ “And you shall cover the boards with gold and make their rings of gold, for places for the poles. And you shall cover the poles with gold.

³⁰ “So you shall raise up the Tabernacle, according to its pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.

³¹ “Moreover, you shall make a veil of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine-twined linen. You shall make it of skillful workmanship, with Cherubims.

³² “And you shall hang it upon four pillars of shittim wood covered with gold (whose hooks shall be of gold) upon four pedestals of silver.

³³ “Afterward, you shall hang the veil on the hooks, so that you may bring into it (that is, within the veil) the Ark of the Testimony. And the veil shall make a separation for you, between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place.

³⁴ “Also, you shall put the Mercy Seat upon the Ark of the Testimony, in the Most Holy Place.

³⁵ “And you shall set the Table outside the veil, and the Lampstand opposite the Table, on the south side of the Tabernacle. And you shall set the Table on the north side.

³⁶ “Also, you shall make a screen for the door of the Tabernacle, of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine-twined linen, expertly woven.

³⁷ “And you shall make five pillars of shittim wood for the screen and cover them with gold. Their hooks shall be of gold; and you shall cast five pedestals of copper for them.”

27 “Moreover, you shall make the Altar of shittim wood, five cubits long and five cubits broad (the altar shall be square) and the height thereof three cubits

² “And you shall make horns for it in its four corners. The horns shall be made of the same wood; and you shall cover it with copper.

³ “Also, you shall make its ash pans for its ashes, and its shovels, and its basins, and its fleshhooks, and its fire pans. You shall make all its instruments of copper.

⁴ “And you shall make a grate for it, a network of copper. Upon that grate you shall also make four copper rings, on its four corners.

⁵ “And you shall put it under the edge of the altar beneath, so that the grate may be in the midst of the altar.

⁶ “Also, you shall make poles for the altar (poles of shittim wood) and shall cover them with copper.

⁷ “And its poles shall be put in the rings, to bear it. The poles shall be upon the two sides of the altar.

⁸ “You shall make the altar hollow between the boards. As God showed you on the mount, so shall they make it.

⁹ “Also, you shall make the court of the Tabernacle on the south side. The court shall have curtains of fine-twined linen on one side, a hundred cubits long.

¹⁰ “And it shall have twenty pillars, with their twenty pedestals of copper. The hooks of the pillars, and their bands, shall be silver.

¹¹ “Likewise, for the whole length of the north side, there shall be hangings of a hundred cubits long, as well as its twenty pillars with their twenty pedestals of copper. The hooks of the pillars, and the bands, shall be silver.

¹² “And on the west side, the breadth of the court shall have curtains of fifty cubits, with their ten pillars and their ten pedestals.

¹³ “And the breadth of the court on the east side shall be fifty cubits.

¹⁴ “Also, hangings of fifteen cubits shall be on one side, with their three pillars and their three pedestals.

¹⁵ Likewise, on the other side, shall be hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three pedestals.

¹⁶ “And in the gate of the court shall be a veil of twenty cubits of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine-twined linen, expertly woven, with its four pillars and their four sockets.

¹⁷ “All the pillars of the court shall have bands of silver all around, with their hooks of silver and their pedestals of copper.

¹⁸ “The length of the court shall be a hundred cubits, and the breadth fifty, (at either end) and the height five cubits; and the hangings shall be made of fine-twined linen and their sockets of copper.

¹⁹ “All the vessels of the Tabernacle (for all manner of its service), and all its pegs, and all the pegs of the court shall be copper.

²⁰ “And you shall command the children of Israel to bring to you pure oil of pressed olive for the light, so that the lamps may always burn.

²¹ “In the Tabernacle of the Congregation, outside the veil which is before the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall keep order before the LORD from evening to morning, as an everlasting statute to their generations on behalf of the children of Israel.

28 “And have your brother Aaron come to you, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, so that he may serve Me in the Priest’s office. That is, Aaron and his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

² “Also, you shall make holy garments for Aaron, your brother, for glory and beauty.

³ “Therefore, you shall speak to all the skilled craftsmen, whom I have filled with the Spirit of wisdom, so that they make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, so that he may serve Me in the Priest’s office.

⁴ “Now, these shall be the garments which they shall make: a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and an embroidered coat, a turban, and a sash. So shall they make these holy garments for Aaron, your brother, and for his sons, so that he may serve Me in the Priest’s office.

⁵ “Therefore, they shall take gold, and blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

⁶ “And they shall make the ephod of gold, blue silk, and purple, scarlet, and fine-twined linen of skillful workmanship.

⁷ “Its two shoulders shall be joined together by their two edges. So shall it be closed.

⁸ And the ingenious band of the same ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same workmanship: of gold, blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine- twined linen.

⁹ “And you shall take two onyx stones and engrave upon them the names of the sons of Israel,

¹⁰ “six names upon one stone and the other six names upon the second stone, according to their generations.

¹¹ “You shall have the two stones engraved according to the names of the sons of Israel, as an engraver of signets who works and engraves in stone. And you shall have them set and embossed in gold.

¹² “And you shall put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod, as memorial stones of the sons of Israel. For Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

¹³ “So, you shall make settings of gold,

¹⁴ “and two chains of fine gold at the end. You shall make them of interwoven, corded work and shall fasten the corded chains upon the settings.

¹⁵ “Also, you shall make the breastplate of judgment with skilled workmanship. You shall make it like the work of the ephod. You shall make it of gold, blue silk, and purple, and scarlet, and fine-twined linen.

¹⁶ “It shall be square, double-folded, a hand-breadth long and a hand-breadth broad.

¹⁷ “Then you shall set it full of places for stones, four rows of stones. The order shall be this: a ruby, a topaz, and an emerald in the first row.

¹⁸ “And in the second row you shall set an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

¹⁹ “And in the third row: a turquoise, an agate, and an amethyst.

²⁰ “And in the fourth row: a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. And they shall be set in gold settings.

²¹ “And the stones shall be according to the names of the sons of Israel: twelve, according to their names, engraved as signets, every one after his name. They shall be for the twelve tribes.

²² “Then you shall make two chains upon the breastplate, at the ends, of braided work of pure gold.

²³ “You shall also make two rings of gold upon the breastplate and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.

²⁴ “And you shall put the two braided, corded chains of gold in the two rings at the ends of the breastplate.

²⁵ “And at the other two ends of the two braided chains, you shall fasten the two settings, and shall put them upon the shoulders of the ephod, upon the front of it.

²⁶ “Also, you shall make two rings of gold, which you shall put at the other two ends of the breastplate, upon its border, toward the inside of the ephod.

²⁷ “And, you shall make two rings of gold and put them on the two sides of the ephod, underneath, on the front of it, near the coupling, upon the ingenious band of the ephod.

²⁸ “Thus shall they bind the breastplate: by its rings to the rings of the ephod, with a lace of blue silk, so that it may be fastened upon the ingenious band of the ephod, and so that the breastplate is not loosened from the ephod.

²⁹ “So, Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment, upon his heart, when he goes into the Holy Place, as a memorial before the LORD continually.

³⁰ “Also, you shall put the Urim and the Thummim on the breastplate of judgment which shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD. And Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.

³¹ “And you shall make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue silk.

³² “And the hole for his head shall be in the middle of it, having an edge of woven work all around the collar of it. It shall be as the collar of a coat of mail, so that it does not tear.

³³ “And below, upon its hem, you shall make pomegranates of blue silk, and purple, and scarlet all around its hem, and bells of gold between them, all around

³⁴ (a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, all around, upon the hem of the robe).

³⁵ It shall be upon Aaron when he ministers. And his sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the LORD and when he comes out, so he shall not die.

³⁶ “Also, you shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it (as signets are engraved) HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

³⁷ And you shall put it on a blue silk lace; and it shall be upon the turban. It shall be upon the front of the turban.

³⁸ “So shall it be upon Aaron’s forehead, so that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the offerings which the children of Israel shall offer in all their holy offerings. And it shall always be upon his forehead, to make them acceptable before the LORD.

³⁹ “You shall embroider the fine linen coat; and you shall make a turban of fine linen. And you shall make a sash of skillful needle work.

⁴⁰ “Also, you shall make tunics for Aaron’s sons; and you shall make them sashes. And you shall make them hats, for glory and beauty.

⁴¹ “And you shall put them upon Aaron, your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, so that they may minister to Me in the Priest’s office.

⁴² “You shall also make them linen trousers to cover their nakedness. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs.

⁴³ “And they shall be for Aaron and his sons, when they come into the Tabernacle of the Congregation, or when they come to the Altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they do not commit iniquity, and so die. This shall be a Law forever to him, and to his seed after him.
