Exodus 12:14-13:16

Feast of Unleavened Bread

14 ‘Now (A)this day will be (B)a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as [a](C)a permanent ordinance. 15 (D)Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall [b]remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, (E)that [c]person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 (F)On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten [d]by every person, that alone may be [e]prepared by you. 17 You shall also observe (G)the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this (H)very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as (I)a [f]permanent ordinance. 18 (J)In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19 (K)Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that [g](L)person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land. 20 You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’”

21 Then (M)Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “[h]Go and (N)take for yourselves [i]lambs according to your families, and slay (O)the Passover lamb. 22 (P)You shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and [j]apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.

A Memorial of Redemption

23 For (Q)the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will (R)not allow the (S)destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you. 24 And (T)you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever. 25 When you enter the land which the Lord will give you, as He has [k]promised, you shall observe this [l]rite. 26 (U)And when your children say to you, ‘[m]What does this rite mean to you?’ 27 you shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to (V)the Lord [n]who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but [o]spared our homes.’” (W)And the people bowed low and worshiped.

28 Then the sons of Israel went and did so; just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

29 Now it came about at (X)midnight that (Y)the Lord struck all (Z)the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of (AA)cattle. 30 Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was (AB)a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead. 31 Then (AC)he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, “Rise up, (AD)get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, [p]worship the Lord, as you have said. 32 Take (AE)both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also.”

Exodus of Israel

33 (AF)The Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, “We will all be dead.” 34 So the people took (AG)their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.

35 (AH)Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; 36 and the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Thus they (AI)plundered the Egyptians.

37 Now the (AJ)sons of Israel journeyed from (AK)Rameses to Succoth, about (AL)six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children. 38 A (AM)mixed multitude also went up with them, [q]along with flocks and herds, a (AN)very large number of livestock. 39 They baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had not become leavened, since they were (AO)driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they [r]prepared any provisions for themselves.

40 Now the time [s]that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was (AP)four hundred and thirty years. 41 And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, [t]to (AQ)the very day, (AR)all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.

Ordinance of the Passover

42 (AS)It is a night [u]to be observed for the Lord for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the Lord, [v]to be observed [w]by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.

43 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of (AT)the Passover: no [x](AU)foreigner is to eat of it; 44 but every man’s (AV)slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it. 45 (AW)A sojourner or a hired servant shall not eat of it. 46 It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, (AX)nor are you to break any bone of it. 47 (AY)All the congregation of Israel are to [y]celebrate this. 48 But (AZ)if a [z]stranger sojourns with you, and [aa]celebrates the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to [ab]celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it. 49 [ac](BA)The same law shall [ad]apply to the native as to the [ae]stranger who sojourns among you.”

50 Then all the sons of Israel did so; they did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. 51 And on that same day (BB)the Lord brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt [af](BC)by their hosts.

Consecration of the Firstborn

13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, (BD)Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first [ag]offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.”

Moses said to the people, “(BE)Remember this day in which you went out from Egypt, from the house of [ah]slavery; for (BF)by [ai]a powerful hand the Lord brought you out from this place. (BG)And nothing leavened shall be eaten. On this day in the (BH)month of Abib, you are about to go forth. It shall be when the Lord (BI)brings you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, which (BJ)He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, (BK)that you shall [aj]observe this rite in this month. For (BL)seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and (BM)nothing leavened shall be seen [ak]among you, nor shall any leaven be seen [al]among you in all your borders. (BN)You shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ And (BO)it shall [am]serve as a sign to you on your hand, and as a reminder [an]on your forehead, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth; for with (BP)a powerful hand the Lord brought you out of Egypt. 10 Therefore, you shall (BQ)keep this ordinance at its appointed time from [ao]year to year.

11 “Now when (BR)the Lord brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as (BS)He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 (BT)you shall [ap]devote to the Lord the first [aq]offspring of every womb, and [ar]the first offspring of every beast that you own; the males belong to the Lord. 13 But (BU)every first [as]offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and (BV)every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14 (BW)And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ then you shall say to him, ‘(BX)With a [at]powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of [au]slavery. 15 It came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the (BY)Lord killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the Lord the males, the first [av]offspring of every womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 So (BZ)it shall [aw]serve as a sign on your hand and as [ax]phylacteries [ay]on your forehead, for with a [az]powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”

Matthew 20:29-21:22

Sight for the Blind

29 (A)As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. 30 And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Lord, (B)have mercy on us, (C)Son of David!” 31 The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, (D)Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 33 They *said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.” 34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.

The Triumphal Entry

21 (E)When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at (F)the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” (G)This [a]took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

(H)Say to the daughter of Zion,
Behold your King is coming to you,
Gentle, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on [b]the coats. Most of the crowd (I)spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,

“Hosanna to the (J)Son of David;
(K)Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna (L)in the highest!”

10 When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is (M)the prophet Jesus, from (N)Nazareth in Galilee.”

Cleansing the Temple

12 (O)And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the (P)money changers and the seats of those who were selling (Q)doves. 13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘(R)My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a (S)robbers[c]den.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and (T)He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the (U)Son of David,” they became indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus *said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘(V)Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” 17 And He left them and went out of the city to (W)Bethany, and spent the night there.

The Barren Fig Tree

18 (X)Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. 19 Seeing a lone (Y)fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.

20 Seeing this, the disciples were amazed and asked, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” 21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, (Z)if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And (AA)all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Psalm 25:16-22

16 (A)Turn to me and be gracious to me,
For I am (B)lonely and afflicted.
17 [a]The (C)troubles of my heart are enlarged;
Bring me (D)out of my distresses.
18 (E)Look upon my affliction and my [b]trouble,
And (F)forgive all my sins.
19 Look upon my enemies, for they (G)are many,
And they (H)hate me with violent hatred.
20 (I)Guard my soul and deliver me;
Do not let me (J)be ashamed, for I take refuge in You.
21 Let (K)integrity and uprightness preserve me,
For (L)I wait for You.
22 (M)Redeem Israel, O God,
Out of all his troubles.

Proverbs 6:12-15

12 A (A)worthless person, a wicked man,
Is the one who walks with a (B)perverse mouth,
13 Who (C)winks with his eyes, who [a]signals with his feet,
Who [b]points with his fingers;
14 Who with (D)perversity in his heart continually (E)devises evil,
Who [c](F)spreads strife.
15 Therefore (G)his calamity will come suddenly;
(H)Instantly he will be broken and there will be (I)no healing.
