A Glorified Zion
60 “(A)Arise, shine; for your (B)light has come,
And the (C)glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
2 “For behold, (D)darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you
And His (E)glory will appear upon you.
3 “(F)Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 “(G)Lift up your eyes round about and see;
They all gather together, they (H)come to you.
Your sons will come from afar,
And your (I)daughters will be [a]carried in the arms.
5 “Then you will see and be (J)radiant,
And your heart will [b]thrill and rejoice;
Because the (K)abundance of the sea will be turned to you,
The (L)wealth of the nations will come to you.
6 “A multitude of camels will cover you,
The young camels of Midian and (M)Ephah;
All those from (N)Sheba will come;
They will bring (O)gold and frankincense,
And will (P)bear good news of the praises of the Lord.
7 “All the flocks of (Q)Kedar will be gathered together to you,
The rams of Nebaioth will minister to you;
They will go up with acceptance on My (R)altar,
And I shall [c](S)glorify My [d]glorious house.
8 “(T)Who are these who fly like a cloud
And like the doves to their [e]lattices?
9 “Surely the (U)coastlands will wait for Me;
And the (V)ships of Tarshish will come first,
To (W)bring your sons from afar,
Their silver and their gold with them,
For the name of the Lord your God,
And for the Holy One of Israel because He has [f](X)glorified you.
10 “(Y)Foreigners will build up your walls,
And their (Z)kings will minister to you;
For in My (AA)wrath I struck you,
And in My favor I have had compassion on you.
11 “Your (AB)gates will be open continually;
They will not be closed day or night,
So that men may (AC)bring to you the wealth of the nations,
With (AD)their kings led in procession.
12 “For the (AE)nation and the kingdom which will not serve you will perish,
And the nations will be utterly ruined.
13 “The (AF)glory of Lebanon will come to you,
The (AG)juniper, the box tree and the cypress together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I shall make the (AH)place of My feet glorious.
14 “The (AI)sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you,
And all those who despised you will bow themselves at the soles of your feet;
And they will call you the (AJ)city of the Lord,
The (AK)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 “Whereas you have been (AL)forsaken and (AM)hated
With no one passing through,
I will make you an everlasting (AN)pride,
A joy from generation to generation.
16 “You will also (AO)suck the milk of nations
And suck the breast of kings;
Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your (AP)Savior
And your (AQ)Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 “Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
And instead of iron I will bring silver,
And instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
And I will make peace your administrators
And righteousness your overseers.
18 “(AR)Violence will not be heard again in your land,
Nor (AS)devastation or destruction within your borders;
But you will call your (AT)walls salvation, and your (AU)gates praise.
19 “No longer will you have the (AV)sun for light by day,
Nor for brightness will the moon give you light;
But you will have the (AW)Lord for an everlasting light,
And your (AX)God for your [g]glory.
20 “Your (AY)sun will no longer set,
Nor will your moon wane;
For you will have the Lord for an everlasting light,
And the days of your (AZ)mourning will be over.
21 “Then all your (BA)people will be righteous;
They will (BB)possess the land forever,
The branch of [h]My planting,
The (BC)work of My hands,
That I may be (BD)glorified.
22 “The (BE)smallest one will become a [i]clan,
And the least one a mighty nation.
I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”
Exaltation of the Afflicted
61 The (BF)Spirit of the Lord [j]God is upon me,
Because the Lord has anointed me
To (BG)bring good news to the [k](BH)afflicted;
He has sent me to (BI)bind up the brokenhearted,
To (BJ)proclaim liberty to captives
And [l]freedom to prisoners;
2 To (BK)proclaim the favorable year of the Lord
And the (BL)day of vengeance of our God;
To (BM)comfort all who mourn,
3 To (BN)grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a garland instead of ashes,
The (BO)oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.
So they will be called [m](BP)oaks of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
4 Then they will (BQ)rebuild the ancient ruins,
They will raise up the former devastations;
And they will repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
5 (BR)Strangers will stand and pasture your flocks,
And [n]foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers.
6 But you will be called the (BS)priests of the Lord;
You will be spoken of as (BT)ministers of our God.
You will eat the (BU)wealth of nations,
And in their [o]riches you will boast.
7 Instead of your (BV)shame you will have a (BW)double portion,
And instead of humiliation they will shout for joy over their portion.
Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land,
(BX)Everlasting joy will be theirs.
8 For I, the Lord, (BY)love justice,
I hate robbery [p]in the burnt offering;
And I will faithfully give them their recompense
And make an (BZ)everlasting covenant with them.
9 Then their offspring will be known among the nations,
And their descendants in the midst of the peoples.
All who see them will recognize them
Because they are the (CA)offspring whom the Lord has blessed.
10 I will (CB)rejoice greatly in the Lord,
My soul will exult in (CC)my God;
For He has (CD)clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
And (CE)as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the (CF)earth brings forth its sprouts,
And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up,
So the Lord [q]God will (CG)cause (CH)righteousness and praise
To spring up before all the nations.
Zion’s Glory and New Name
62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her (CI)righteousness goes forth like brightness,
And her (CJ)salvation like a torch that is burning.
2 The (CK)nations will see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory;
And you will be called by a new (CL)name
Which the mouth of the Lord will designate.
3 You will also be a (CM)crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
And a royal [r]diadem in the hand of your God.
4 It will no longer be said to you, “[s](CN)Forsaken,”
Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “[t]Desolate”;
But you will be called, “[u]My delight is in her,”
And your land, “[v](CO)Married”;
For the (CP)Lord delights in you,
And to Him your land will be married.
5 For as a young man marries a virgin,
So your sons will marry you;
And as the [w]bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
So your (CQ)God will rejoice over you.
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner (A)worthy of the (B)gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are (C)standing firm in (D)one spirit, with one [a]mind (E)striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a (F)sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29 For to you (G)it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to (H)suffer for His sake, 30 experiencing the same (I)conflict which (J)you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
Be Like Christ
2 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any (K)fellowship of the Spirit, if any [b](L)affection and compassion, 2 (M)make my joy complete [c]by (N)being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing [d]from [e](O)selfishness or (P)empty conceit, but with humility of mind (Q)regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 (R)do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 (S)Have this attitude [f]in yourselves which was also in (T)Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He (U)existed in the (V)form of God, (W)did not regard equality with God a thing to be [g]grasped, 7 but [h](X)emptied Himself, taking the form of a (Y)bond-servant, and (Z)being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, (AA)He humbled Himself by becoming (AB)obedient to the point of death, even (AC)death [i]on a cross. 9 (AD)For this reason also, God (AE)highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him (AF)the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus (AG)every knee will bow, of (AH)those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is (AI)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 So then, my beloved, (AJ)just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your (AK)salvation with (AL)fear and trembling; 13 for it is (AM)God who is at work in you, both to will and to work (AN)for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without (AO)grumbling or disputing; 15 so that you will [j]prove yourselves to be (AP)blameless and innocent, (AQ)children of God above reproach in the midst of a (AR)crooked and perverse generation, among whom you [k](AS)appear as [l]lights in the world, 16 holding [m]fast the word of life, so that in (AT)the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not (AU)run in vain nor (AV)toil in vain. 17 But even if I am being (AW)poured out as a drink offering upon (AX)the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. 18 You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.
The Reign of the Righteous King.
A Psalm of Solomon.
72 Give the king (A)Your judgments, O God,
And (B)Your righteousness to the king’s son.
2 [a]May [b]he (C)judge Your people with righteousness
And [c](D)Your afflicted with justice.
3 [d]Let the mountains bring [e](E)peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
4 [f]May he (F)vindicate the [g]afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy
And crush the oppressor.
5 [h]Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,
And [i]as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
6 [j]May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (I)showers that water the earth.
7 In his days [k]may the (J)righteous flourish,
And (K)abundance of peace till the moon is no more.
8 May he also rule (L)from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 [l]Let (M)the nomads of the desert (N)bow before him,
And his enemies (O)lick the dust.
10 [m]Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the [n](Q)islands bring presents;
The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer [o]gifts.
11 [p]And let all (U)kings bow down before him,
All (V)nations serve him.
12 For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,
The [q]afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,
And the [r]lives of the needy he will save.
14 He will [s](Y)rescue their [t]life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be (Z)precious in his sight;
15 So may he live, and may the (AA)gold of Sheba be given to him;
And let [u]them pray for him continually;
Let [v]them bless him all day long.
16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
Its fruit will wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;
And may those from the city flourish like (AC)vegetation of the earth.
17 May his (AD)name endure forever;
May his name [w]increase [x](AE)as long as the sun shines;
And let men (AF)bless themselves by him;
(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.
18 (AH)Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who alone (AI)works wonders.
19 And blessed be His (AJ)glorious name forever;
And may the whole (AK)earth be filled with His glory.
(AL)Amen, and Amen.
20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
11 (A)Deliver those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back.
12 If you say, “See, we did not know this,”
Does He not (B)consider it (C)who weighs the hearts?
And (D)does He not know it who (E)keeps your soul?
And will He not [a](F)render to man according to his work?
