The Inner Court Gates
28 Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate; and he measured the south gate (A)according to those same measurements. 29 Its (B)guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its (C)porches were according to those same measurements. And [a]the gate and its porches had (D)windows all around; it was (E)fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 30 There were (F)porches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide. 31 Its porches were toward the outer court; and (G)palm tree ornaments were on its side pillars, and its stairway had eight (H)steps.
32 Then he brought me into the (I)inner court toward the east. And he measured the gate (J)according to those same measurements. 33 Its (K)guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its porches were according to those same measurements. And [b]the gate and its porches had (L)windows all around; it was (M)fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its (N)porches were toward the outer court; and (O)palm tree ornaments were on its side pillars, on each side, and its stairway had eight (P)steps.
35 Then he brought me to the (Q)north gate; and he measured it according to those same measurements, 36 with its (R)guardrooms, its side pillars, and its (S)porches. And [c]the gate had (T)windows all around; the length was (U)fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits. 37 Its side pillars were toward the outer court; and (V)palm tree ornaments were on its side pillars on each side, and its stairway had eight (W)steps.
38 A (X)chamber with its doorway was by the side pillars at the gates; there they (Y)rinse the burnt offering. 39 In the porch of the gate were two (Z)tables on each side, on which to slaughter the (AA)burnt offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering. 40 On the outer [d]side, [e]as one went up to the entrance of the gate toward the north, were two tables; and on the other [f]side of the porch of the gate were two tables. 41 Four (AB)tables were on each side [g]next to the gate; or, eight tables on which they slaughter sacrifices. 42 For the burnt offering there were four (AC)tables of (AD)cut stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high, on which they lay the instruments with which they slaughter the (AE)burnt offering and the sacrifice. 43 The double [h]hooks, one handbreadth in length, were installed [i]in the house all around; and on the tables was the flesh of the offering.
The Chambers for the Priests
44 From the outside to the (AF)inner gate were [j](AG)chambers for the (AH)singers in the inner court, one of which was at the [k]side of the north gate, with [l]its front toward the south, and one at the [m]side of the [n]south gate facing toward the north. 45 Then he said to me, “This is the (AI)chamber which faces toward the south, intended for the priests who (AJ)keep the responsibility of the house; 46 but the (AK)chamber which faces toward the north is for the priests who (AL)keep the responsibility of the altar. These are the (AM)sons of Zadok, who from the sons of Levi (AN)come near to Yahweh to minister to Him.” 47 He measured the court, a perfect square, one (AO)hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide; and the altar was in front of the house.
The Porch
48 Then he brought me to the (AP)porch of the house and measured each side pillar of the porch, five cubits on each side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on each side. 49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits; and at the (AQ)stairway by which it was ascended were (AR)columns belonging to the side pillars, one on each side.
The Nave
41 Then he (AS)brought me to the [o](AT)nave and measured the (AU)side pillars; [p]six cubits wide on each side was the width of the [q]side pillar. 2 The width of the entrance was ten cubits, and the [r]sides of the entrance were five cubits on each side. And he measured [s]the length of the nave, [t](AV)forty cubits, and the width, (AW)twenty cubits.
The Holy of Holies
3 Then he went [u](AX)inside and measured each (AY)side pillar of the doorway, two cubits, and the doorway, six cubits high; and the width of the doorway, seven cubits. 4 He measured its length, (AZ)twenty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits, before the (BA)nave; and he said to me, “This is the (BB)Holy of Holies.”
The Wall, Side Chambers, and West Building
5 Then he measured the wall of the house of Yahweh, six cubits; and the width of the (BC)side chambers, four cubits, all around about the house on every side. 6 (BD)The side chambers were in three stories, [v]one above another, and [w]thirty in each story; and [x]the side chambers (BE)extended to the wall which stood on [y]their inward side all around, that they might be fastened, and not be fastened into the wall of the house itself. 7 The side chambers surrounding the house were wider at each successive story. Because the (BF)structure surrounding the house went upward by stages on all sides of the house, therefore the width of the house increased as it went higher; and thus one went up from the lowest story to the highest by way of the [z]second story. 8 I saw also that the house had a raised [aa]platform all around; the foundations of the side chambers were a full rod of [ab](BG)six [ac]long cubits in height. 9 The [ad]thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits. But the (BH)free space between the side chambers belonging to the house 10 and the outer (BI)chambers was twenty cubits in width all around the house on every side. 11 The [ae]doorways of the [af]side chambers toward the (BJ)free space consisted of one doorway toward the north and another doorway toward the south; and the width of the place of the (BK)free space was five cubits all around.
12 The (BL)building that was in front of the (BM)separate area at the side toward the west was [ag]seventy cubits wide; and the wall of the building was five cubits [ah]thick all around, and its length was [ai]ninety cubits.
The Measurements of the Building
13 Then he measured the house, [aj]one (BN)hundred cubits long; the (BO)separate area with the (BP)building and its walls were also one (BQ)hundred cubits long. 14 Also the width of the front of the house and that of the separate [ak]areas along the east side totaled one hundred cubits.
15 He measured the length of the (BR)building [al]along the front of the (BS)separate area behind it, with a [am](BT)gallery on each side, one hundred cubits, along with the inner nave and the porches of the court.
Carvings and Furnishings
16 The (BU)thresholds, the [an](BV)latticed windows, and the [ao](BW)galleries round about their (BX)three stories, opposite the threshold, were (BY)paneled with wood all around, and from the ground to the windows (but the windows were covered), 17 over the entrance, and to the inner house, and on the outside, and on all the wall all around inside and outside, by measurement. 18 It was [ap]carved with (BZ)cherubim and (CA)palm trees; and a palm tree was between cherub and cherub, and every cherub had two faces, 19 a (CB)man’s face toward the palm tree on one side and a young (CC)lion’s face toward the palm tree on the other side; they were [aq]carved on all the house all around. 20 From the ground to above the entrance (CD)cherubim and (CE)palm trees were [ar]carved, as well as on the wall of the nave.
21 The (CF)doorposts of the (CG)nave were square; as for the front of the sanctuary, the appearance of one doorpost was like that of the other. 22 The (CH)altar was of wood, three cubits high and its length two cubits; its corners, its [as]base, and its [at]sides were of wood. And he said to me, “This is the (CI)table that is before Yahweh.” 23 The (CJ)nave and the (CK)sanctuary each had a double (CL)door. 24 Each of the doors had two leaves, two [au](CM)swinging leaves; two leaves for one door and two leaves for the other. 25 Also there were [av]carved on them, on the doors of the nave, (CN)cherubim and (CO)palm trees like those [aw]carved on the walls; and there was a (CP)canopy of wood over the front of the porch outside. 26 There were [ax](CQ)latticed windows and (CR)palm trees on one side and on the other, on the sides of the (CS)porch; thus were the (CT)side chambers of the house and the canopies.
Draw Near to God
4 [a]What is the source of quarrels and (A)conflicts among you? [b]Is not the source your pleasures that wage (B)war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have, so you (C)murder. You are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and (D)do not receive, because you ask [c]with wrong motives, so that you may spend it [d]on your pleasures. 4 You (E)adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with (F)the world is (G)enmity toward God? (H)Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world sets himself as an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture (I)speaks to no purpose: “[e]He [f]jealously desires (J)the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”? 6 But (K)He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “(L)God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 7 (M)Be subject therefore to God. (N)Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 (O)Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (P)Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and (Q)purify your hearts, you (R)double-minded. 9 (S)Be miserable and mourn and cry. Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 (T)Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.
11 (U)Do not slander one another, (V)brothers. He who slanders a brother or (W)judges his brother, slanders (X)the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not (Y)a doer of the law but a judge of it. 12 There is only one (Z)Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is (AA)able to save and to destroy. But (AB)who are you who judge your neighbor?
Life Is a Vapor
13 (AC)Come now, you who say, “(AD)Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” 14 [g]Yet you do not know [h]what your life will be like tomorrow. (AE)You are a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 [i]Instead, you ought to say, “(AF)If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” 16 But as it is, you boast in your [j]arrogance. (AG)All such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, (AH)to one who knows to do the [k]right thing and does not do it, to him it is sin.
19 (A)Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to Yah.
20 This is the gate of Yahweh;
The (B)righteous will enter through it.
21 I shall give thanks to You, for You have (C)answered me,
And You have (D)become my salvation.
22 The (E)stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief corner stone.
23 This is from Yahweh;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which Yahweh has made;
Let us (F)rejoice and be glad in it.
25 O Yahweh, (G)save!
O Yahweh, (H)succeed!
26 (I)Blessed is the one who comes in the name of Yahweh;
We have (J)blessed you from the house of Yahweh.
27 (K)Yahweh is God, and He has given us (L)light;
Bind the festival sacrifice with cords [a]to the (M)horns of the altar.
28 (N)You are my God, and I give thanks to You;
You are my God, (O)I exalt You.
29 (P)Give thanks to Yahweh, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
