Gate for the Prince
44 Then He brought me back by the way of the (A)outer gate of the sanctuary, which faces the east; and it was shut. 2 The Lord said to me, “This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it, for the (B)Lord God of Israel has entered by it; therefore it shall be shut. 3 As for the (C)prince, he shall sit in it as prince to (D)eat bread before the Lord; he shall (E)enter by way of the (F)porch of the gate and shall go out [a]by the same way.”
4 Then He brought me by way of the (G)north gate to the front of the house; and I looked, and behold, the (H)glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord, and I (I)fell on my face. 5 The Lord said to me, “Son of man, [b](J)mark well, see with your eyes and hear with your ears all that I say to you concerning all the (K)statutes of the house of the Lord and concerning all its laws; and [c]mark well the entrance of the house, with all exits of the sanctuary. 6 You shall say to the [d](L)rebellious ones, to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord [e]God, “(M)Enough of all your abominations, O house of Israel, 7 when you brought in (N)foreigners, (O)uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to profane it, even My house, when you (P)offered My food, the fat and the blood; for they (Q)made My covenant void—this in addition to all your abominations. 8 And you have not (R)kept charge of My holy things yourselves, but you have set foreigners [f]to keep charge of My sanctuary.”
9 ‘Thus says the Lord God, “(S)No foreigner uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, of all the foreigners who are among the sons of Israel, shall enter My sanctuary. 10 But the Levites who went far from Me when Israel went astray, who (T)went astray from Me after their idols, shall (U)bear the punishment for their iniquity. 11 Yet they shall be (V)ministers in My sanctuary, having (W)oversight at the gates of the house and (X)ministering in the house; they shall (Y)slaughter the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall (Z)stand before them to minister to them. 12 Because they ministered to them (AA)before their idols and became a (AB)stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I have [g](AC)sworn against them,” declares the Lord God, “that they shall (AD)bear the punishment for their iniquity. 13 And they shall (AE)not come near to Me to serve as a priest to Me, nor come near to any of My holy things, to the things that are most holy; but they will (AF)bear their shame and their abominations which they have committed. 14 Yet I will [h]appoint them [i]to (AG)keep charge of the house, of all its service and of all that shall be done in it.
Ordinances for the Levites
15 “But the (AH)Levitical priests, the sons of (AI)Zadok, who (AJ)kept charge of My sanctuary when the sons of Israel (AK)went astray from Me, shall come near to Me to minister to Me; and they shall (AL)stand before Me to offer Me the (AM)fat and the blood,” declares the Lord God. 16 “They shall (AN)enter My sanctuary; they shall come near to My (AO)table to minister to Me and keep My charge. 17 It shall be that when they enter at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with (AP)linen garments; and wool shall not [j]be on them while they are ministering in the gates of the inner court and in the house. 18 Linen (AQ)turbans shall be on their heads and (AR)linen undergarments shall be on their loins; they shall not gird themselves with anything which makes them sweat. 19 When they go out into the outer court, into the outer court to the people, they shall (AS)put off their garments in which they have been ministering and lay them in the holy chambers; then they shall put on other garments so that they will (AT)not transmit holiness to the people with their garments. 20 Also they shall (AU)not shave their heads, yet they shall not (AV)let their locks [k]grow long; they shall only trim the hair of their heads. 21 (AW)Nor shall any of the priests drink wine when they enter the inner court. 22 And they shall not [l]marry a widow or a (AX)divorced woman but shall (AY)take virgins from the offspring of the house of Israel, or a widow who is the widow of a priest. 23 Moreover, they shall teach My people the (AZ)difference between the holy and the profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean. 24 In a dispute (BA)they shall take their stand to judge; they shall judge it according to My ordinances. They shall also keep My laws and My statutes in all My (BB)appointed feasts and (BC)sanctify My sabbaths. 25 [m](BD)They shall not go to a dead person to defile themselves; however, for father, for mother, for son, for daughter, for brother, or for a sister who has not had a husband, they may defile themselves. 26 After he is (BE)cleansed, seven days shall [n]elapse for him. 27 On the day that he goes into the sanctuary, into the (BF)inner court to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his (BG)sin offering,” declares the Lord God.
28 “And it shall be with regard to an inheritance for them, that (BH)I am their inheritance; and you shall give them no possession in Israel—I am their possession. 29 They shall (BI)eat the grain offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering; and every [o](BJ)devoted thing in Israel shall be theirs. 30 The first of all the (BK)first fruits of every kind and every [p]contribution of every kind, from all your [q]contributions, shall be for the priests; you shall also give to the priest the (BL)first of your [r]dough to cause a (BM)blessing to rest on your house. 31 The priests shall not eat any bird or beast that has (BN)died a natural death or has been torn to pieces.
The Lord’s Portion of the Land
45 “And when you (BO)divide by lot the land for inheritance, you shall offer [s]an (BP)allotment to the Lord, a (BQ)holy portion of the land; the length shall be the length of 25,000 (BR)cubits, and the width shall be [t]20,000. It shall be holy within all its boundary round about. 2 Out of this there shall be for the holy place a square round about (BS)five hundred by five hundred cubits, and fifty cubits for its [u](BT)open space round about. 3 From this [v]area you shall measure a length of 25,000 cubits and a width of 10,000 cubits; and in it shall be the sanctuary, the most holy place. 4 It shall be the holy portion of the land; it shall be for the (BU)priests, the ministers of the sanctuary, who (BV)come near to minister to the Lord, and it shall be a place for their houses and a holy place for the sanctuary. 5 An area (BW)25,000 cubits in length and 10,000 in width shall be for the Levites, the ministers of the house, and for their possession [w]cities to dwell in.
6 “You shall give the (BX)city possession of an area 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, alongside the [x]allotment of the holy portion; it shall be for the whole house of Israel.
Portion for the Prince
7 “The (BY)prince shall have land on either side of the holy [y]allotment and the [z]property of the city, adjacent to the holy [aa]allotment and the [ab]property of the city, on the west side toward the west and on the east side toward the east, and in length comparable to one of the portions, from the west border to the east border. 8 This shall be his land for a possession in Israel; so My princes shall no longer (BZ)oppress My people, but they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel (CA)according to their tribes.”
9 ‘Thus says the Lord [ac]God, “(CB)Enough, you princes of Israel; put away (CC)violence and destruction, and (CD)practice justice and righteousness. Stop your (CE)expropriations from My people,” declares the Lord God.
10 “You shall have (CF)just balances, a just (CG)ephah and a just (CH)bath. 11 The ephah and the bath shall be [ad]the same quantity, so that the bath will contain a tenth of a (CI)homer and the ephah a tenth of a homer; [ae]their standard shall be according to the homer. 12 The (CJ)shekel shall be twenty (CK)gerahs; twenty shekels, twenty-five shekels, and fifteen shekels shall be your [af]maneh.
A Living Hope, and a Sure Salvation
1 (A)Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who reside as (B)aliens, (C)scattered throughout (D)Pontus, (E)Galatia, (F)Cappadocia, (G)Asia, and (H)Bithynia, (I)who are chosen 2 according to the (J)foreknowledge of God the Father, (K)by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, [a]to (L)obey Jesus Christ and be (M)sprinkled with His blood: (N)May grace and peace [b]be yours in the fullest measure.
3 (O)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who (P)according to His great mercy (Q)has caused us to be born again to (R)a living hope through the (S)resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an (T)inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and (U)will not fade away, (V)reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are (W)protected by the power of God (X)through faith for (Y)a salvation ready (Z)to be revealed in the last time. 6 (AA)In this you greatly rejoice, even though now (AB)for a little while, (AC)if necessary, you have been distressed by (AD)various [c]trials, 7 so that the [d](AE)proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which [e]is perishable, (AF)even though tested by fire, (AG)may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at (AH)the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and (AI)though you have not seen Him, you (AJ)love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and [f]full of glory, 9 obtaining as (AK)the outcome of your faith the salvation of [g]your souls.
10 (AL)As to this salvation, the prophets who (AM)prophesied of the (AN)grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 [h]seeking to know what person or time (AO)the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He (AP)predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories [i]to follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who (AQ)preached the gospel to you by (AR)the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which (AS)angels long to [j]look.
Gimel.
17 (A)Deal bountifully with Your servant,
That I may live and keep Your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold
Wonderful things from Your law.
19 I am a (B)stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.
20 My soul is crushed [a](C)with longing
After Your ordinances at all times.
21 You (D)rebuke the arrogant, [b]the (E)cursed,
Who (F)wander from Your commandments.
22 (G)Take away reproach and contempt from me,
For I (H)observe Your testimonies.
23 Even though (I)princes sit and talk against me,
Your servant (J)meditates on Your statutes.
24 Your testimonies also are my (K)delight;
They are [c]my counselors.
Daleth.
25 My (L)soul cleaves to the dust;
(M)Revive me (N)according to Your word.
26 I have told of my ways, and You have answered me;
(O)Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts,
So I will (P)meditate on Your wonders.
28 My (Q)soul [d]weeps because of grief;
(R)Strengthen me according to Your word.
29 Remove the false way from me,
And graciously grant me Your law.
30 I have chosen the faithful way;
I have [e]placed Your ordinances before me.
31 I (S)cling to Your testimonies;
O Lord, do not put me to shame!
32 I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will (T)enlarge my heart.
8 He who increases his wealth by (A)interest and usury
Gathers it (B)for him who is gracious to the poor.
9 He who turns away his ear from listening to the law,
Even his (C)prayer is an abomination.
10 He who leads the upright astray in an evil way
Will (D)himself fall into his own pit,
But the (E)blameless will inherit good.
