The Generations of Adam

This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him (A)in the likeness of God. He created them (B)male and female, and He (C)blessed them and named them [a]Man in the day when they were created.

When Adam had lived 130 years, he [b]became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were 800 years, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. So all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.

And Seth lived 105 years and became the father of Enosh. Then Seth lived 807 years after he became the father of Enosh, and he had other sons and daughters. So all the days of Seth were 912 years, and he died.

And Enosh lived 90 years and became the father of Kenan. 10 Then Enosh lived 815 years after he became the father of Kenan, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 11 So all the days of Enosh were 905 years, and he died.

12 And Kenan lived 70 years and became the father of Mahalalel. 13 Then Kenan lived 840 years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 14 So all the days of Kenan were 910 years, and he died.

15 And Mahalalel lived 65 years and became the father of Jared. 16 Then Mahalalel lived 830 years after he became the father of Jared, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 17 So all the days of Mahalalel were 895 years, and he died.

18 And Jared lived 162 years and became the father of Enoch. 19 Then Jared lived 800 years after he became the father of Enoch, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 20 So all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died.

21 And Enoch lived 65 years and became the father of Methuselah. 22 Then Enoch (D)walked with God 300 years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were 365 years. 24 (E)Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God (F)took him.

25 And Methuselah lived 187 years and became the father of Lamech. 26 Then Methuselah lived 782 years after he became the father of Lamech, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 27 So all the days of Methuselah were 969 years, and he died.

28 And Lamech lived 182 years and became the father of a son. 29 Now he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will [c]give us rest from our work and from the pain of our hands arising from (G)the ground which Yahweh has cursed.” 30 Then Lamech lived 595 years after he became the father of Noah, and he became the father of other sons and daughters. 31 So all the days of Lamech were 777 years, and he died.

32 And Noah was (H)500 years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

The Nephilim and the Daughters of Men

Now it happened, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were good in appearance; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. Then Yahweh said, “(I)My Spirit shall not [d]strive with man forever [e](J)because he indeed is flesh; [f]nevertheless his days shall be 120 years.” The (K)Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Then Yahweh saw that the evil of man was great on the earth, and that (L)every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (M)And Yahweh regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was (N)grieved [g]in His heart. And Yahweh said, “(O)I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the [h]sky; for (P)I regret that I have made them.” But (Q)Noah (R)found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.

The Generations of Noah

These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a (S)righteous man, [i](T)blameless among those in his generations; Noah (U)walked with God. 10 And Noah [j]became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was (V)corrupt before God, and the earth was (W)filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for (X)all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.

13 Then God said to Noah, “(Y)The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14 Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and you shall [k]cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 Now this is how you shall make it: the length of the ark [l]300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. 16 You shall make a [m]window for the ark, and complete it to one [n]cubit from [o]the top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 As for Me, behold (Z)I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall breathe its last. 18 But I will establish (AA)My covenant with you; and (AB)you shall enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 (AC)And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 (AD)Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 As for you, take for yourself some of all (AE)food which is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” 22 (AF)Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.

Noah and the Flood

Then Yahweh said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be (AG)righteous before Me in this generation. You shall take [p]with you of every (AH)clean animal [q]by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean, two, a male and his female; also of the birds of the [r]sky, [s]by sevens, male and female, to keep their seed alive on the face of all the earth. For after (AI)seven more days, I will send rain on the earth (AJ)forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land (AK)every living thing that I have made.” (AL)And Noah did according to all that Yahweh had commanded him.

Now Noah was (AM)six hundred years old when the flood of water [t]came upon the earth. Then (AN)Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood. (AO)Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that creeps on the ground, [u]by twos they came to Noah into the ark, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 Now it happened after (AP)the seven days, that the water of the flood [v]came upon the earth. 11 In the (AQ)six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on this day all (AR)the fountains of the great deep split open, and the [w]floodgates of the sky were opened. 12 (AS)Then the rain [x]came upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.

13 On this very day (AT)Noah and Shem and Ham and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark, 14 they and every beast after its kind, and all the cattle after [y]their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind—every [z]fowl, every winged creature. 15 So they came to Noah into the ark, (AU)by twos of all flesh in which was the breath of life. 16 And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, entered as God had commanded him; and Yahweh closed it behind him.

17 Then the flood [aa]came upon the earth for (AV)forty days, and the water multiplied and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18 And the water prevailed and multiplied greatly upon the earth, and the ark went on the [ab]surface of the water. 19 And the water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains under all the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed [ac]fifteen cubits higher, (AW)and the mountains were covered. 21 (AX)And all flesh that [ad]moved on the earth breathed its last, that is birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, as well as all mankind. 22 All (AY)in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life—of all that was on the dry land—died. 23 Thus He blotted out [ae]every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the [af]sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only (AZ)Noah remained, and those that were with him in the ark. 24 (BA)And the water prevailed upon the earth 150 days.

Matthew 3:7-4:11

But when he saw many of the (A)Pharisees and (B)Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You (C)brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from (D)the wrath to come? (E)Therefore bear fruit (F)in keeping with repentance; and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ‘(G)We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. 10 And the (H)axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore (I)every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “As for me, (J)I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; (K)He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His (L)winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will (M)gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the (N)chaff with (O)unquenchable fire.”

The Baptism of Jesus

13 (P)Then Jesus *arrived (Q)from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John to be baptized by him. 14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us (R)to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he *permitted Him. 16 And after being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and [a](S)he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him, 17 and behold, there was a voice out of the heavens saying, “(T)This is [b]My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”

The Temptation of Jesus

(U)Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness (V)to be tempted by the devil. And after He had (W)fasted forty days and forty nights, He [c]then became hungry. And (X)the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the (Y)Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘(Z)Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”

Then the devil *took Him into (AA)the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,

(AB)He will command His angels concerning You’;

and

On their hands they will bear You up,
Lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘(AC)You shall not put the [d]Lord your God to the test.’”

(AD)Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “(AE)All these things I will give You, if You fall down and [e]worship me.” 10 Then Jesus *said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘(AF)You shall worship the [f]Lord your God, and [g]serve Him only.’” 11 Then the devil *left Him; and behold, (AG)angels came and began to minister to Him.

Psalm 3

Yahweh, Save Me

A Psalm of David. When [a]he fled from Absalom his son.

O Yahweh, how (A)my adversaries have become many!
Many are rising up against me.
Many are saying [b]of my soul,
“There is no (B)salvation for him in God.” [c]Selah.

But You, O Yahweh, are (C)a shield about me,
My (D)glory, and the One who (E)lifts my head.
I was calling to Yahweh with my voice,
And He (F)answered me from (G)His holy [d]mountain. Selah.
[e]I (H)lay down and slept;
I awoke, for Yahweh sustains me.
I will (I)not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who all around (J)have set themselves against me.

(K)Arise, O Yahweh; (L)save me, O my God!
For You have (M)struck all my enemies on the [f]cheek;
You [g]have (N)shattered the teeth of the wicked.
[h](O)Salvation belongs to Yahweh;
Your (P)blessing [i]be upon Your people! Selah.

Proverbs 1:10-19

10 My son, if sinners (A)entice you,
(B)Do not be willing.
11 If they say, “Come with us,
Let us (C)lie in wait for blood,
Let us (D)ambush the innocent without cause;
12 Let us (E)swallow them alive like Sheol,
And whole, as those who (F)go down to the pit;
13 We will find all kinds of precious wealth,
We will fill our houses with spoil;
14 Cast in your lot [a]with us,
We shall all have one purse,”
15 My son, (G)do not walk in the way with them.
(H)Withhold your feet from their pathway,
16 For (I)their feet run to evil
And they hasten to shed blood.
17 For it is [b]no use that a net is spread
In the sight of any [c]bird;
18 But they (J)lie in wait for their own blood;
They ambush their own [d]lives.
19 So are the paths of everyone who is (K)greedy for gain;
It takes away the [e]life of its possessors.
