Exodus 12:14-13:16

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

14 ‘Now (A)this day will be (B)a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to Yahweh; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as [a](C)a perpetual statute. 15 (D)Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall [b]remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, (E)that [c]person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 (F)Now on the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten [d]by every person, that alone may be done by you. 17 You shall also keep (G)the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this (H)very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall keep this day throughout your generations as [e](I)a perpetual statute. 18 (J)In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19 (K)Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that [f](L)person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a sojourner or a native of the land. 20 You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your places of habitation you shall eat unleavened bread.’”

21 Then (M)Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “[g]Bring out and (N)take for yourselves [h]lambs according to your families and slaughter (O)the Passover lamb. 22 (P)And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and [i]touch some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the doorway of his house until morning. 23 And (Q)Yahweh will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and He will see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and Yahweh will pass over the doorway and will (R)not allow the (S)destroyer to come into your houses to smite you. 24 And (T)you shall keep this event as a statute for you and your children forever. 25 And it will be, when you enter the land which Yahweh will give you, as He has [j]promised, you shall keep this new [k]slavery. 26 (U)And it will be when your children say to you, ‘[l]What is the meaning of this new slavery to you?’ 27 that you shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to (V)Yahweh who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but delivered our homes.’” (W)And the people bowed low and worshiped.

28 Then the sons of Israel went and did so; just as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

Death of the Firstborn of Egypt

29 Now it happened at (X)midnight that (Y)Yahweh struck all (Z)the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the [m]dungeon, and all the firstborn of (AA)cattle. 30 Then Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was (AB)a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead. 31 Then (AC)he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, “Rise up, (AD)get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, [n]serve Yahweh, as you have spoken. 32 Take (AE)both your flocks and your herds, as you have spoken, and go, and bless me also.”

Israel Goes Out from Egypt

33 (AF)And the Egyptians strongly pressed the people to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, “We will all be dead.” 34 So the people took up (AG)their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.

35 (AH)Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses—they had asked from the Egyptians for articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; 36 and Yahweh had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they (AI)plundered the Egyptians.

37 And the (AJ)sons of Israel journeyed from (AK)Rameses to Succoth, about (AL)six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from the little ones. 38 A [o](AM)foreign multitude also went up with them, [p]along with flocks and herds, a (AN)very [q]large number of livestock. 39 And they baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had not become leavened, since they were (AO)driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they [r]prepared any provisions for themselves.

40 Now the time [s]that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was (AP)430 years. 41 And it happened at the end of 430 years, [t]to (AQ)the very day, that (AR)all the hosts of Yahweh went out from the land of Egypt. 42 (AS)It is a night to be kept for Yahweh for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for Yahweh, to be kept [u]by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.

The Statute of the Passover

43 And Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of (AT)the Passover: no [v](AU)foreigner shall eat of it; 44 but every man’s (AV)slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it. 45 (AW)A foreign resident or a hired person shall not eat of it. 46 It shall be eaten in a single house; you shall not bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, (AX)and you shall not break any bone of it. 47 (AY)All the congregation of Israel shall [w]celebrate this. 48 But (AZ)if a sojourner sojourns with you and [x]celebrates the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to [y]celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it. 49 [z](BA)The same law shall [aa]apply to the native as to the sojourner who sojourns among you.”

50 So all the sons of Israel did; as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron, thus they did. 51 And on that same day (BB)Yahweh brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt [ab](BC)by their hosts.

Sanctifying the Firstborn

13 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, (BD)Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first [ac]offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.”

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

And Moses said to the people, “(BE)Remember this day in which you went out from Egypt, from the house of [ad]slavery; for (BF)by a strong hand Yahweh brought you out from this place. (BG)And nothing leavened shall be eaten. This day, in the (BH)month of Abib, you are going out. And it shall be when Yahweh (BI)brings you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which (BJ)He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, (BK)that you shall [ae]do this service in this month. For (BL)seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to Yahweh. Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and (BM)nothing leavened shall be seen [af]among you, nor shall any leaven be seen [ag]among you in all your borders. (BN)And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘It is because of what Yahweh did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ And (BO)it will be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of Yahweh may be in your mouth; for with (BP)a strong hand Yahweh brought you out of Egypt. 10 Therefore, you shall (BQ)keep this statute at its appointed time from [ah]year to year.

11 “And it will be when (BR)Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as (BS)He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 (BT)and you shall [ai]devote to Yahweh the first [aj]offspring of every womb and [ak]the first offspring of every beast that you own; the males belong to Yahweh. 13 But (BU)every first [al]offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and (BV)every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14 (BW)And it will be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ then you shall say to him, ‘(BX)With a strong hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt, from the house of [am]slavery. 15 And it happened, when Pharaoh hardened his heart with stiffness about letting us go, that (BY)Yahweh killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to Yahweh the males, the first [an]offspring of every womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 So (BZ)it will be as a sign on your hand and as [ao]phylacteries between your eyes, for with a strong hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt.”

Matthew 20:29-21:22

Sight for the Blind

29 (A)And as they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. 30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus *was passing by, cried out, saying, “Lord, (B)have mercy on us, (C)Son of David!” 31 But the crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, saying, “Lord, (D)Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 33 They *said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes be opened.” 34 And moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.

The Triumphal Entry

21 (E)And when they had approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, at (F)the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” (G)And this [a]took place in order that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,

(H)Say to the daughter of Zion,
Behold your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and mounted on a donkey,
And on a colt, the foal of a pack animal.’”

And the disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their garments on them; and He sat on [b]the garments. And most of the crowd (I)spread their garments in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. And the crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were crying out, saying,

“Hosanna to the (J)Son of David;
(K)Blessed is He who comes in the name of the [c]Lord;
Hosanna (L)in the highest!”

10 And when He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds were saying, “This is (M)the prophet Jesus, from (N)Nazareth in Galilee.”

Cleansing the Temple

12 (O)And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the (P)money changers and the seats of those who were selling (Q)doves. 13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘(R)My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a (S)robbers[d]den.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and (T)He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the marvelous things which He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, saying, “Hosanna to the (U)Son of David,” they became indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus *said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘(V)Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” 17 And He left them and went out of the city to (W)Bethany, and spent the night there.

The Barren Fig Tree

18 (X)Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry. 19 And seeing a lone (Y)fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it except leaves only; and He *said to it, “No longer shall there ever be any fruit from you.” And at once the fig tree withered.

20 And seeing this, the disciples marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither all at once?” 21 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, (Z)if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And (AA)all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

12 A (A)vile person, a wicked man,
