22 Then Moses returned to Yahweh and said, “(A)O Lord, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? 23 Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people, (B)and You have not delivered Your people at all.”
Yahweh Remembers His Covenant
6 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for (C)by a strong hand he will let them go, and by a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.”
2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am (D)Yahweh; 3 and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as [a](E)God Almighty, but by (F)My name, Yahweh, I was not known to them. 4 And I also established (G)My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the [b]land in which they sojourned. 5 Furthermore I have (H)heard the groaning of the sons of Israel because the Egyptians are holding them in slavery, and I have remembered My covenant. 6 Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ‘(I)I am Yahweh, and (J)I will bring you out from under the hard labors of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their slavery. I will also (K)redeem you with (L)an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 Then I will take you [c](M)for My people, and (N)I will be [d]your God; and (O)you shall know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the hard labors of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land which (P)I [e]swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and (Q)I will give it to you for a possession; (R)I am Yahweh.’” 9 So Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses on (S)account of their weakness of spirit and [f]hard slavery.
10 Now Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 11 “(T)Come, [g]tell Pharaoh king of Egypt [h]to let the sons of Israel go out of his land.” 12 But Moses spoke before Yahweh, saying, “Behold, the sons of Israel have not listened to me; (U)how then will Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of (V)uncircumcised lips?” 13 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron and gave them a command for the sons of Israel and for Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
The Heads of Israel’s Households
14 These are the heads of their fathers’ households.
(W)The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn:
Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.
15 The (X)sons of Simeon:
Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon.
16 These are the names of (Y)the sons of Levi according to their generations:
Gershon and Kohath and Merari; and the years of Levi’s life were 137 years.
17 (Z)The sons of Gershon:
[i]Libni and Shimei, according to their families.
18 (AA)The sons of Kohath:
Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel; and the years of Kohath’s life were 133 years.
19 (AB)The sons of Merari:
Mahli and Mushi.
These are the families of the Levites according to their generations.
20 (AC)And Amram took his father’s sister Jochebed as a wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses; and the years of Amram’s life were 137 years.
21 (AD)The sons of Izhar:
Korah and Nepheg and Zichri.
22 (AE)The sons of Uzziel:
Mishael and [j]Elzaphan and Sithri.
23 And Aaron took Elisheba, the daughter of (AF)Amminadab, the sister of (AG)Nahshon, as a wife, and she bore him (AH)Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
24 The (AI)sons of Korah:
Assir and Elkanah and [k]Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites.
25 And Aaron’s son (AJ)Eleazar took one of the daughters of Putiel as a wife, and she bore him (AK)Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites according to their families. 26 It was the same Aaron and Moses to whom Yahweh said, “(AL)Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their (AM)hosts.” 27 They were the ones (AN)who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt to bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt; it was the same Moses and Aaron.
Aaron Will Speak for Moses
28 Now it happened on the day when Yahweh spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 that Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “(AO)I am Yahweh; (AP)speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I am speaking to you.” 30 But Moses said before Yahweh, “Behold, I am of (AQ)uncircumcised lips; how then will Pharaoh listen to me?”
7 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “(AR)See, I [l]set you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother (AS)Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land. 3 But (AT)I will harden Pharaoh’s heart with stiffness that I may (AU)multiply My signs and My [m]wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 But (AV)Pharaoh will not listen to you. And I will [n]set My hand upon Egypt and (AW)bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by (AX)great judgments. 5 (AY)Then the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I (AZ)stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.” 6 So Moses and Aaron did it; (BA)as Yahweh commanded them, thus they did. 7 Now Moses was (BB)eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Aaron’s Staff Becomes a Serpent
8 And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 9 “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘[o](BC)Work a miraculous wonder,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘(BD)Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a [p]serpent.’” 10 So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and thus they did just as Yahweh had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and [q]his [r]servants, and it (BE)became a [s]serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh also (BF)called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the [t](BG)magicians of Egypt, did [u]the same with (BH)their secret arts. 12 And each one threw down his staff, and they became [v]serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. 13 Yet (BI)Pharaoh’s heart was [w]hardened with strength, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.
The Plague of Water Turning to Blood
14 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is [x]hard with firmness; he refuses to let the people go. 15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning [y]as (BJ)he is going out to the water, and station yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand (BK)the staff that was turned into a serpent. 16 (BL)And you shall say to him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “(BM)Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listened until now.” 17 Thus says Yahweh, “(BN)By this you shall know that I am Yahweh: behold, I am about to strike [z]the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and (BO)it will be turned to blood. 18 (BP)And the fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will [aa]become foul, and the Egyptians will (BQ)be weary of drinking water from the Nile.”’” 19 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and (BR)stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their [ab]streams, and over their pools and over all their reservoirs of water, that they may become blood; and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”
20 So Moses and Aaron did thus, as Yahweh had commanded. And he raised up [ac](BS)the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and (BT)all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood. 21 And the fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile [ad]became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt. 22 (BU)Yet the [ae]magicians of Egypt did [af]the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was [ag]hardened with strength, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken. 23 Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not set his heart even on this. 24 So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile. 25 And seven full days [ah]passed after Yahweh had struck the Nile.
Forgiveness
21 Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, (A)how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to (B)seven times?” 22 Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to (C)seventy times seven.
23 “For this reason (D)the kingdom of heaven [a]may be compared to a king who wished to (E)settle accounts with his slaves. 24 When he had begun to settle them, one who owed him ten thousand [b]talents was brought to him. 25 But since he [c](F)did not have the means to repay, his lord commanded him (G)to be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made. 26 Therefore, the slave fell to the ground and (H)was prostrating himself before him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.’ 27 And feeling compassion, the lord of that slave released him and (I)forgave him the [d]debt. 28 But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him one hundred [e]denarii; and he seized him and began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay back what you owe.’ 29 So, his fellow slave fell to the ground and was pleading with him, saying, ‘Have patience with me and I will repay you.’ 30 But he was unwilling [f]and went and threw him in prison until he should pay back what was owed. 31 So, when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened. 32 Then summoning him, his lord *said to him, ‘You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 (J)Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?’ 34 And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. 35 (K)My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your hearts.”
Teaching About Divorce
19 [g](L)Now it happened that when Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee and (M)came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; 2 and [h]large crowds followed Him, and (N)He healed them there.
3 And some Pharisees came to [i]Jesus, testing Him and saying, “(O)Is it lawful for a man to [j]divorce his wife for any reason at all?” 4 And He answered and said, “Have you not read (P)that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘(Q)For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and (R)the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” 7 They *said to Him, “(S)Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8 He *said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to [k]divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9 And I say to you, (T)whoever [l]divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman [m]commits adultery[n].”
10 The disciples *said to Him, “If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry.” 11 But He said to them, “(U)Not all men can accept this statement, but (V)only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it.”
Yahweh Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23 Yahweh is my (A)shepherd,
I [a]shall (B)not want.
2 He makes me lie down in (C)green pastures;
He (D)leads me beside [b](E)quiet waters.
3 He (F)restores my soul;
He (G)guides me in the [c](H)paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I (I)walk through the [d]valley of the shadow of death,
I (J)fear no [e]evil, for (K)You are with me;
Your (L)rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You (M)prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You [f]have (N)anointed my head with oil;
My (O)cup overflows.
6 [g]Surely (P)goodness and lovingkindness will [h]pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will [i](Q)dwell in the house of Yahweh [j]forever.
