Yahweh Is My Strength and My Song
12 Then you will say in that day,
“(A)I will give thanks to You, O Yahweh;
For (B)although You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away,
And You comfort me.
2 Behold, (C)God is my salvation,
I will (D)trust and not dread;
For [a](E)Yah—Yahweh Himself—is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.”
3 Therefore you will joyously (F)draw water
From the (G)springs of salvation.
4 And in that day you will (H)say,
“(I)Give thanks to Yahweh, call on His name.
(J)Make known His deeds among the peoples;
[b]Make them remember that His name is exalted.”
5 (K)Praise Yahweh in song, for He has done [c]majestic things;
Let this be known throughout the earth.
6 (L)Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
For (M)great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
An Oracle Concerning Babylon
13 The [d](N)oracle concerning (O)Babylon which (P)Isaiah the son of Amoz beheld.
2 (Q)Lift up a standard on the [e](R)bare hill,
Heighten your voice at them,
(S)Wave the hand that they may (T)enter the doors of the nobles.
3 I have commanded My set apart ones,
I have even called My (U)mighty warriors,
My [f]proudly exulting ones,
To execute My anger.
4 A (V)sound of tumult on the mountains,
Like that of many people!
A sound of the rumbling of kingdoms,
Of nations gathered together!
Yahweh of hosts is mustering the host for battle.
5 They are coming from a far country,
From the (W)end of the sky,
Yahweh and His instruments of (X)indignation,
To (Y)wreak destruction on the whole land.
6 Wail, for the (Z)day of Yahweh is near!
It will come as (AA)destruction from [g]the Almighty.
7 Therefore (AB)all hands will fall limp,
And every man’s (AC)heart will melt.
8 They will be (AD)terrified,
Pains and labor pangs will take hold of them;
They will (AE)writhe like a woman in labor,
They will look at one another in astonishment,
Their faces aflame.
9 Behold, (AF)the day of Yahweh is coming,
Cruel, with fury and burning anger,
To make the land a desolation;
And He will exterminate its sinners from it.
10 For the (AG)stars of heaven and their constellations
Will not flash forth their light;
The (AH)sun will be dark when it rises
And the moon will not shed its light.
11 Thus I will (AI)punish the world for its evil
And the (AJ)wicked for their iniquity;
I will also put an end to the (AK)pride of the arrogant
And bring low the (AL)lofty pride of the [h](AM)ruthless.
12 I will make mortal man [i](AN)scarcer than fine gold
And mankind than the (AO)gold of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will make the (AP)heavens tremble,
And (AQ)the earth will be shaken from its place
At the fury of Yahweh of hosts
In (AR)the day of His burning anger.
14 And it will be that like a hunted gazelle,
Or like (AS)sheep with none to gather them,
They will each turn to his own people,
And each one flee to his own land.
15 Anyone who is found will be (AT)pierced through,
And anyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
16 Their (AU)infants also will be dashed to pieces
Before their eyes;
Their houses will be plundered
And their wives ravished.
17 Behold, I am going to (AV)awaken the Medes against them,
Who will not think about silver or (AW)take pleasure in gold.
18 And their bows will dash the (AX)young men to pieces,
They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb,
Nor will their (AY)eye pity [j]children.
19 And it will be that (AZ)Babylon, the (BA)beauty of kingdoms, the [k]honor of the Chaldeans’ pride,
Will be as when God (BB)overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 It will (BC)never be inhabited or dwelt in from generation to generation;
Nor will the [l](BD)Arab pitch his tent there,
Nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
21 But (BE)desert creatures will lie down there,
And their houses will be full of [m]owls;
Ostriches also will dwell there, and [n]shaggy goats will leap there.
22 [o]And hyenas will howl in their fortified towers
And jackals in their luxurious (BF)palaces.
Her fateful time also [p]will soon come
And her days will not be prolonged.
Israel’s Restoration and Dominion
14 When Yahweh will (BG)have compassion on Jacob and again (BH)choose Israel, and [q]put them in their own land, then (BI)sojourners will join them and attach themselves to the house of Jacob. 2 And the peoples will take them along and bring them to their place, and the (BJ)house of Israel will possess them as an inheritance in the land of Yahweh (BK)for their male and female slaves; and [r]they will take their captors captive and will have dominion over their taskmasters.
3 And it will be in the day when Yahweh gives you (BL)rest from your pain and turmoil and harsh slavery in which you have been enslaved, 4 that you will (BM)take up this [s]taunt against the king of Babylon, and say,
“How (BN)the taskmaster has ceased,
And how [t]fury has ceased!
5 Yahweh has broken the staff of the wicked,
The scepter of rulers
6 (BO)Which used to strike the peoples in fury with unceasing strokes,
Which had dominion over the nations in anger with unrestrained persecution.
7 The whole earth is at rest and is quiet;
They (BP)break forth into shouts of joy.
8 Even the (BQ)cypress trees are glad over you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying,
‘Since you were laid low, no tree cutter comes up against us.’
9 (BR)Sheol from beneath trembles excitedly over you to meet you when you come;
It wakens for you the [u]spirits of the dead, all the [v]leaders of the earth;
It raises all the kings of the nations from their thrones.
10 (BS)They will all answer and say to you,
‘Even you have been made weak as we,
You have become like us.
11 Your (BT)pride and the music of your harps
Have been brought down to Sheol;
Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you
And worms are your covering.’
12 How you have (BU)fallen from heaven,
O [w](BV)star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!
13 But you said in your heart,
‘I will (BW)ascend to heaven;
I will (BX)raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
(BY)I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 Nevertheless you (BZ)will be brought down to Sheol,
To the recesses of the pit.
16 Those who see you will gaze at you,
They will [x]carefully consider you, saying,
‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble,
Who caused kingdoms to quake,
17 Who made the world like a (CA)wilderness
And pulled down its cities,
Who (CB)did not [y]allow his prisoners to go home?’
18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory,
Each in his own [z]place.
19 But you have been (CC)cast out of your grave
Like an abhorred branch,
[aa]Clothed with those killed who are pierced with a sword,
Who go down to the stones of the (CD)pit
Like a (CE)trampled corpse.
20 You will not be united with them in burial,
Because you have ruined your country,
You have killed your people.
May the (CF)seed of evildoers not be called upon forever.
21 Prepare for his sons a place of slaughter
Because of the (CG)iniquity of their fathers.
They must not arise and take possession of the earth
And fill the face of the world with cities.”
22 “I will rise up against them,” declares Yahweh of hosts, “and will cut off from Babylon (CH)name and remnant, (CI)offspring and posterity,” declares Yahweh. 23 “I will also make it a possession for the (CJ)hedgehog and swamps of water, and I will sweep it with the broom of [ab](CK)destruction,” declares Yahweh of hosts.
Yahweh’s Plan to Break Assyrian Rule
24 Yahweh of hosts has sworn saying, “Surely, (CL)just as I have intended so it has happened, and just as I have counseled so it will stand, 25 to (CM)break Assyria in My land, and I will trod him down on My mountains. Then his (CN)yoke will be removed from them and his burden removed from their shoulder. 26 This is the (CO)counsel that is counseled against the whole earth; and this is the (CP)hand that is stretched out against all the nations. 27 For (CQ)Yahweh of hosts has counseled, and who can thwart it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?”
An Oracle Concerning Philistia
28 In the (CR)year that King Ahaz died this [ac](CS)oracle came:
29 “Do not be glad, O (CT)Philistia, all of you,
Because the rod that (CU)struck you is broken;
For from the serpent’s root a (CV)viper will come out,
And its fruit will be a (CW)flying fiery serpent.
30 [ad]And the foremost (CX)of the poor will eat,
And the needy will lie down in security;
I will put to death your root with (CY)famine,
And it will kill off your remnant.
31 Wail, O (CZ)gate; cry, O city;
[ae]Melt away, O (DA)Philistia, all of you;
For smoke comes from the (DB)north,
And (DC)there is no straggler in his ranks.
32 How then will one answer the (DD)messengers of the nation?
That (DE)Yahweh has founded Zion,
And (DF)the afflicted of His people will take refuge in it.”
Examine Yourselves
13 (A)This is the third time I am coming to you. (B)By the mouth of two or three witnesses every [a]matter shall be confirmed. 2 I have previously said when present the second time, and though now absent I say in advance to those who have (C)sinned in the past and to all the rest as well, that (D)if I come again I will not (E)spare anyone, 3 since you are (F)seeking proof that (G)Christ speaks in me; He is not weak toward you, but (H)mighty in you. 4 For indeed He was (I)crucified because of weakness, yet He lives (J)because of the power of God. For we also are (K)weak [b]in Him, yet (L)we will live with Him because of the power of God toward you.
5 (M)Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; (N)examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you [c](O)fail the test? 6 But I hope that you will realize that we ourselves [d]do not fail the test. 7 Now we pray to God that you do no wrong, not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we may [e]appear unapproved. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we rejoice when we ourselves are (P)weak but you are strong. This we also pray for, [f]that you be (Q)restored. 10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when present (R)I need not use (S)severity, in accordance with the (T)authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
11 (U)Finally, brothers, [g]rejoice, [h](V)be restored, be comforted, (W)be like-minded, (X)live in peace, and (Y)the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 (Z)Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 (AA)All the [i]saints greet you.
14 (AB)The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the (AC)love of God, and the (AD)fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
Let Your Glory Be Above All the Earth
For the choir director. [a]Al-tashheth. Of David. A [b]Mikhtam. [c]When he fled from Saul in the cave.
57 Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,
For my soul (A)takes refuge in You;
And in the (B)shadow of Your wings I will take refuge
Until destruction (C)passes by.
2 I will call to God Most High,
To God who (D)accomplishes all things for me.
3 He will (E)send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches him who [d](F)tramples upon me. [e]Selah.
God will send His (G)lovingkindness and His [f]truth.
4 My soul is among (H)lions;
I am lying down among those who breathe forth fire,
Sons of men whose (I)teeth are spears and arrows
And their (J)tongue a sharp sword.
5 (K)Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
6 They have [g]set a (L)net for my steps;
My soul is (M)bowed down;
They (N)dug a pit before me;
They themselves have (O)fallen into the midst of it. Selah.
7 (P)My (Q)heart is set, O God, my heart is set;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
8 Awake, (R)my glory!
Awake, (S)harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
9 (T)I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to You among the [h]nations.
10 For Your (U)lovingkindness is great to the heavens
And Your [i]truth to the skies.
11 (V)Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
