Isaiah 60:1-62:5

A Glorified Zion

60 (A)Arise, shine, for your (B)light has come,
And the (C)glory of Yahweh has risen upon you.
For behold, (D)darkness will cover the earth
And dense gloom the peoples;
But Yahweh will rise upon you,
And His (E)glory will appear upon you.
(F)Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

(G)Lift up your eyes round about and see;
They all gather together; they (H)come to you.
Your sons will come from afar,
And your (I)daughters will be [a]carried on the nurses’ hip.
Then you will see and be (J)radiant,
And your heart will tremble and be large with joy;
Because the (K)abundance of the sea will be turned to you,
The (L)wealth of the nations will come to you.
A multitude of camels will cover you,
The young camels of Midian and (M)Ephah;
All those from (N)Sheba will come;
They will bring (O)gold and frankincense,
And will (P)bear good news of the praises of Yahweh.
All the flocks of (Q)Kedar will be gathered together to you;
The rams of Nebaioth will minister to you;
They will go up with acceptance on My (R)altar,
And I shall [b](S)adorn My [c]glorious house with beautiful glory.
(T)Who are these who fly like a cloud
And like the doves to their [d]lattices?
Surely the (U)coastlands will hope in Me;
And the (V)ships of Tarshish will come first,
To (W)bring your sons from afar,
Their silver and their gold with them,
For the name of Yahweh your God,
And for the Holy One of Israel because He has [e](X)adorned you with beautiful glory.

10 (Y)Foreigners will build up your walls,
And their (Z)kings will minister to you;
For in My (AA)wrath I struck you,
And in My favor I have had compassion on you.
11 Your (AB)gates will be open continually;
They will not be closed day or night,
So that men may (AC)bring to you the wealth of the nations,
With (AD)their kings led in procession.
12 For the (AE)nation and the kingdom which will not serve you will perish,
And the nations will surely be laid waste.
13 The (AF)glory of Lebanon will come to you,
The (AG)juniper, the box tree, and the cypress together,
To adorn the place of My sanctuary with beautiful glory;
And I shall make the (AH)place of My feet glorious.
14 The (AI)sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you,
And all those who spurned you will bow themselves at the soles of your feet;
And they will call you the (AJ)City of Yahweh,
The (AK)Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “Instead of being (AL)forsaken and (AM)hated
With no one passing through,
I will make you an everlasting (AN)pride,
A joy from generation to generation.
16 You will also (AO)suck the milk of nations
And suck the breast of kings;
Then you will know that I, Yahweh, am your (AP)Savior
And your (AQ)Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
And instead of iron I will bring silver,
And instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
And I will make peace your overseers
And righteousness your taskmasters.
18 (AR)Violence will not be heard again in your land,
Nor (AS)devastation or destruction within your borders;
But you will call your (AT)walls salvation, and your (AU)gates praise.
19 No longer will you have the (AV)sun for light by day,
Nor for brightness will the moon give you light;
But you will have (AW)Yahweh for an everlasting light,
And your (AX)God for your [f]glory.
20 Your (AY)sun will no longer set,
Nor will your moon wane;
For you will have Yahweh for an everlasting light,
And the days of your (AZ)mourning will be finished.
21 Then all your (BA)people will be righteous;
They will (BB)possess the land forever,
The branch of [g]My planting,
The (BC)work of My hands,
That I may show forth My (BD)beautiful glory.
22 The (BE)smallest one will become a [h]clan,
And the miniscule one a mighty nation.
I, Yahweh, will hasten it in its time.”

Exaltation of the Afflicted

61 The (BF)Spirit of Lord Yahweh is upon me
Because Yahweh has anointed me
To (BG)bring good news to the [i](BH)afflicted;
He has sent me to (BI)bind up the brokenhearted,
To (BJ)proclaim release to captives
And [j]freedom to prisoners,
To (BK)proclaim the favorable year of Yahweh
And the (BL)day of vengeance of our God,
To (BM)comfort all who mourn,
To (BN)grant those who mourn in Zion,
Giving them a headdress instead of ashes,
The (BO)oil of rejoicing instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.
So they will be called [k](BP)oaks of righteousness,
The planting of Yahweh, that He may show forth His beautiful glory.

Then they will (BQ)rebuild the ancient waste places;
They will raise up the former desolations;
And they will make new the ruined cities,
The desolations from generation to generation.
(BR)Strangers will stand and pasture your flocks,
And [l]foreigners will be your farmers and your vinedressers.
But you will be called the (BS)priests of Yahweh;
You will be spoken of as (BT)ministers of our God.
You will eat the (BU)wealth of nations,
And in their glories you will boast.
Instead of your (BV)shame you will have a (BW)double portion,
And instead of dishonor they will shout for joy over their portion.
Therefore they will possess a double portion in their land;
(BX)Everlasting gladness will be theirs.
For I, Yahweh, (BY)love justice,
I hate robbery [m]in the burnt offering;
And in truth I will give them their recompense
And cut an (BZ)everlasting covenant with them.
Then their seed will be known among the nations,
And their offspring in the midst of the peoples.
All who see them will recognize them
Because they are the (CA)seed whom Yahweh has blessed.

10 I will (CB)rejoice greatly in Yahweh;
My soul will rejoice in (CC)my God,
For He has (CD)clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a headdress,
And (CE)as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the (CF)earth brings forth its branches,
And as a garden causes the things sown in it to branch out,
So Lord Yahweh will (CG)cause (CH)righteousness and praise
To branch out before all the nations.

Zion’s Glory and New Name

62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her (CI)righteousness goes forth like brightness,
And her (CJ)salvation like a torch that is burning.
The (CK)nations will see your righteousness,
And all kings your glory;
And you will be called by a new (CL)name
Which the mouth of Yahweh will designate.
You will also be a (CM)crown of glory in the hand of Yahweh,
And a turban of royalty in the hand of your God.
It will no longer be said to you, “[n](CN)Forsaken,”
Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “[o]Desolate”;
But you will be called, “[p]My delight is in her,”
And your land, “[q](CO)Married”;
For (CP)Yahweh takes pleasure in you,
And to Him your land will be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin,
So your sons will marry you;
And as the [r]bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
So your (CQ)God will rejoice over you.

Philippians 1:27-2:18

27 Only [a]live your lives in a manner (A)worthy of the (B)gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about your circumstances, that you are (C)standing firm in (D)one spirit, with one [b]mind (E)contending together for the faith of the gospel, 28 in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a (F)sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God. 29 For to you (G)it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to (H)suffer for His sake, 30 having the same (I)struggle which (J)you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Christ’s Humility and Exaltation

Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any (K)fellowship of the Spirit, if any [c](L)affection and compassion, (M)fulfill my joy, that (N)you think the same way, by maintaining the same love, being united in spirit, thinking on one purpose, doing nothing [d]from [e](O)selfish ambition or (P)vain glory, but with humility of mind (Q)regarding one another as more important than yourselves, (R)not merely looking out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. (S)Have this way of thinking [f]in yourselves which was also in (T)Christ Jesus, who, although (U)existing in the (V)form of God, (W)did not regard equality with God a thing [g]to be grasped, but [h](X)emptied Himself, by taking the form of a (Y)slave, by (Z)being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, (AA)He humbled Himself by becoming (AB)obedient to the point of death, even (AC)death [i]on a cross. (AD)Therefore, God also (AE)highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him (AF)the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus (AG)every knee will bow, of (AH)those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that (AI)every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is [j](AJ)Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 So then, my beloved, (AK)just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your (AL)salvation with (AM)fear and trembling; 13 for it is (AN)God who is at work in you, both to will and to work (AO)for His good pleasure.

14 Do all things without (AP)grumbling or disputing, 15 so that you will be (AQ)blameless and innocent, (AR)children of God without blemish in the midst of a (AS)crooked and perverse generation, among whom you (AT)shine as [k]lights in the world, 16 holding [l]fast the word of life, so that in (AU)the day of Christ I will have reason to boast because I did not (AV)run in vain nor (AW)labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being (AX)poured out as a drink offering upon (AY)the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. 18 And you also, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.

Psalm 72

Give the King Your Judgments

Of Solomon.

72 O God, give the king (A)Your judgments,
And (B)Your righteousness to the king’s son.
[a]May [b]he (C)render judgment to Your people with righteousness
And (D)Your [c]afflicted with justice.
Let the mountains lift up [d](E)peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
[e]May he (F)give justice to the [f]afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy,
And crush the oppressor.

[g]Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,
And [h]as long as the moon, from generation to all generations.
[i]May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (I)showers that water the earth.
[j]May the (J)righteous flourish in his days,
And (K)abundance of peace until the moon is no more.

May he also have dominion (L)from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
[k]Let (M)the desert creatures (N)kneel before him,
And his enemies (O)lick the dust.
10 [l]Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the (Q)coastlands bring a present;
The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer tribute.
11 [m]And let all (U)kings bow down to him,
All (V)nations serve him.

12 For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,
The [n]afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,
And the [o]lives of the needy he will save.
14 He will (Y)redeem their [p]life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be (Z)precious in his sight;
15 So may he live! And may they give to him the (AA)gold of Sheba;
And let each pray for him continually;
Let each bless him all day long.

16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
May its fruit wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;
And may those from the city blossom like (AC)vegetation of the earth.
17 May his (AD)name endure forever;
May his name [q]increase [r](AE)as long as the sun shines;
Let all nations [s](AF)be blessed in him;
(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.

18 (AH)Blessed be Yahweh God, the God of Israel,
Who alone (AI)works wondrous deeds.
19 And blessed be His (AJ)glorious name forever;
And may the whole (AK)earth be filled with His glory.
(AL)Amen, and Amen.

20 [t]The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are completed.

Proverbs 24:11-12

11 (A)Deliver those who are being taken away to death,
And those who are stumbling to the slaughter, Oh hold them back.
12 If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,”
Does not He (B)who weighs the hearts (C)understand?
And (D)does not He who (E)guards your soul know?
And will not He [a](F)render to man according to his work?
