Isaiah 25:1-28:13

Yahweh Will Swallow Up Death

25 O Yahweh, You are (A)my God;
I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;
For You have (B)worked wonders,
(C)Counsels formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
For You have made a city into a (D)heap,
A (E)fortified town into a ruin;
A (F)palace of strangers is a city no more,
It will never be rebuilt.
Therefore a strong people will (G)glorify You;
(H)Towns of ruthless nations will fear You.
For You have been a (I)strong defense for the poor,
A strong defense for the needy in his distress,
A (J)refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat;
For the breath of the (K)ruthless
Is like a rain storm against a wall.
Like heat in a dry land, You subdue the (L)rumbling of strangers;
Like heat by the shadow of a cloud, the song of the ruthless is [a]silenced.

(M)And Yahweh of hosts will prepare a [b]lavish banquet for (N)all peoples on this mountain;
A banquet of [c]aged wine, [d]choice pieces with marrow,
And [e]refined, aged wine.
And on this mountain He will swallow up the [f](O)covering which is over all peoples,
Even the veil which is [g]stretched over all nations.
He will (P)swallow up death for all time,
And Lord Yahweh will (Q)wipe tears away from all faces,
And He will remove the (R)reproach of His people from all the earth;
For Yahweh has spoken.
And it will be said in that day,
“Behold, (S)this is our God in whom we have (T)hoped that (U)He would save us.
This is Yahweh in whom we have hoped;
(V)Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
10 For the hand of Yahweh will rest on this mountain,
And (W)Moab will be trodden down in his place
As straw is trodden down in the water of a manure pile.
11 And he will (X)spread out his hands in the middle of it
As a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim,
But Yahweh will (Y)lay low his lofty pride together with the trickery of his hands.
12 The (Z)unassailable fortifications of your walls He will bring down,
Lay low, and cast to the ground, even to the dust.

Yahweh Will Establish Peace

26 (AA)In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:

“We have a (AB)strong city;
He sets up walls and ramparts for (AC)salvation.
Open the (AD)gates, that the (AE)righteous nation may enter,
The one that keeps faithfulness.
The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect (AF)peace
Because he trusts in You.
(AG)Trust in Yahweh forever,
For in Yah—Yahweh Himselfwe have an everlasting (AH)Rock.
For He has laid low those who settle on high, the [h](AI)exalted city;
(AJ)He brings it low, He brings it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust.
(AK)The foot will trample it,
The feet of the (AL)afflicted, the steps of the poor.”

The (AM)way of the righteous is upright;
O Upright One, (AN)make the path of the righteous level.
Indeed, while following the way of (AO)Your judgments, O Yahweh,
We have hoped for You eagerly;
(AP)Your name—the (AQ)memory of You—is the desire of our souls.
(AR)At night [i]my soul longs for You,
Indeed, [j]my spirit within me (AS)seeks You earnestly;
For when the earth [k]experiences Your judgments,
The inhabitants of the world (AT)learn righteousness.
10 Though the wicked is shown favor,
He does not (AU)learn righteousness;
He (AV)deals unjustly in the land of uprightness,
And does not perceive the majesty of Yahweh.

11 O Yahweh, Your hand is raised up high, yet they (AW)do not behold it.
[l]They behold (AX)Your zeal for the people and are put to shame;
Indeed, [m](AY)fire will devour Your adversaries.
12 Yahweh, You will establish (AZ)peace for us,
Since You have also performed for us all our works.
13 O Yahweh our God, (BA)other masters besides You have ruled us;
But through You alone we (BB)bring Your name to remembrance.
14 (BC)The dead will not live; the [n]departed spirits will not rise;
Therefore You have (BD)visited and destroyed them,
And You have made all remembrance of them perish.
15 (BE)You have increased the nation, O Yahweh;
You have increased the nation, You are glorified;
You have (BF)extended all the borders of the land.
16 O Yahweh, they visited You (BG)in distress;
They [o]could only whisper a prayer;
Your chastening was upon them.
17 (BH)As the [p]woman with child draws near to the time to give birth,
She writhes and cries out in her pangs of labor,
Thus were we before You, O Yahweh.
18 We were [q]with child, we writhed in labor;
We (BI)gave birth, as it seems, only to wind.
We could not accomplish salvation for the earth,
And the (BJ)inhabitants of the world [r]were not born.
19 Your (BK)dead will live;
[s]Their corpses will rise.
You who dwell in the dust, (BL)awake and shout for joy,
For your dew is as the dew of the [t]dawn,
And the earth will [u]give birth to the [v]departed spirits.

20 Come, my people, (BM)enter into your rooms
And close your doors behind you;
Hide for a little [w](BN)while
Until (BO)indignation passes by.
21 For behold, Yahweh is about to (BP)come out from His place
To (BQ)visit the iniquity of the inhabitants of the earth;
And the earth will (BR)reveal her bloodshed
And will no longer cover those of hers who were killed.

Yahweh Will Deliver Israel

27 In that day (BS)Yahweh will [x]punish [y](BT)Leviathan the fleeing serpent,
With His fierce and great and [z]mighty sword,
Even [aa]Leviathan the twisted serpent;
And (BU)He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.

In that day,
“A [ab](BV)vineyard of delight, sing of it!
I, Yahweh, am its keeper;
(BW)I water it every moment.
Lest anyone [ac]damage it,
I (BX)keep it night and day.
I have no wrath.
Who would ever give Me (BY)briars and thorns in the battle?
I would step on them, (BZ)I would burn them [ad]completely.
Or let him [ae](CA)rely on My strong defense,
Let him make peace with Me,
Let him (CB)make peace with Me.”
[af]In the days to come Jacob (CC)will take root,
Israel will (CD)blossom and bud,
And they will fill the [ag]whole world with (CE)produce.

Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has (CF)He struck them?
Or like the slaughter of those of His who were killed, [ah]have they been killed?
You contended with them [ai]by driving them away, by (CG)making them forlorn.
With His fierce wind He has expelled them on the day of the (CH)east wind.
Therefore through this, Jacob’s iniquity will be (CI)atoned for;
And this will be the whole fruit of the (CJ)turning away of his sin:
When he makes all the (CK)altar stones like pulverized chalk stones,
When [aj]Asherim and incense altars will not stand.
10 For the fortified city is (CL)isolated,
A [ak]haunt [al]forlorn and forsaken like the desert;
(CM)There the calf will graze,
And there it will lie down and [am]feed on its twigs.
11 When its (CN)limbs are dry, they are broken off;
Women come and light a fire with them,
For they are not a people of (CO)discernment,
Therefore (CP)their Maker (CQ)will not have compassion on them.
And their Creator will not be gracious to them.

12 And it will be in that day, that Yahweh (CR)will start His threshing from the flowing stream of the [an](CS)River to the brook of Egypt, and you will be (CT)gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel. 13 And it will be in that day, that a great (CU)trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of (CV)Assyria and who were banished in the land of Egypt will come and (CW)worship Yahweh in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Woe to Ephraim

28 Woe to the proud crown of the (CX)drunkards of (CY)Ephraim,
And to the fading flower of its glorious beauty,
Which is at the head of the [ao]fertile valley
Of those who are [ap]overcome with wine!
Behold, the Lord has a strong and (CZ)courageous agent;
As a storm of (DA)hail, a tempest of destruction,
Like a storm of (DB)mighty overflowing waters,
He has set it down to the earth with His hand.
The proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim is (DC)trodden under foot.
And the fading flower of its glorious beauty,
Which is at the head of the [aq]fertile valley,
Will be like the (DD)first-ripe fig prior to summer,
Which [ar]one sees,
And [as]as soon as it is in his [at]hand,
He swallows it.
In that day (DE)Yahweh of hosts will become a beautiful (DF)crown
And a glorious diadem to the remnant of His people;
A (DG)spirit of just judgment for him who sits in judgment,
A (DH)might to those who turn back the [au]onslaught at the gate.
And these also (DI)reel with wine and stagger from strong drink:
(DJ)The priest and (DK)the prophet reel with strong drink;
They are swallowed up by wine, they stagger from (DL)strong drink;
They reel while [av]having (DM)visions;
They totter when rendering a verdict.
For all the tables are full of filthy (DN)vomit, without a single clean place.

(DO)Whom would He instruct in knowledge,
And whom would He provide understanding about the report?
Those just (DP)weaned from milk?
Those just taken from the breast?
10 For He says,
[aw](DQ)Order on order, order on order,
Line on line, line on line,
A little here, a little there.’”
11 Indeed, He will speak to this people
Through (DR)stammering lips and a foreign tongue,
12 He who said to them, “Here is (DS)rest, give rest to the weary,”
And, “Here is repose,” but they would not listen.
13 So the word of Yahweh to them will be,
[ax]Order on order, order on order,
Line on line, line on line,
A little here, a little there,”
That they may go and (DT)stumble backward, be broken, snared, and taken captive.

Galatians 3:10-22

10 For as many as are of the works of [a]the Law are under a curse, for it is written, “(A)Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11 Now that (B)no one is justified [b]by [c]the Law before God is evident, [d]for “(C)The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 [e]However, the Law is not [f]of faith; rather, “(D)He who does them shall live [g]by them.” 13 Christ (E)redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “(F)Cursed is everyone who hangs on (G)a [h]tree”— 14 in order that (H)in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might [i]come to the Gentiles, so that we (I)would receive (J)the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The Promise by Faith

15 (K)Brothers, (L)I speak [j]in human terms: (M)even though it is only a man’s [k]covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds [l]conditions to it. 16 Now the promises were spoken (N)to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And (O)to your seed,” that is, Christ. 17 And what I am saying is this: the Law, which came (P)430 years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to abolish the promise. 18 For (Q)if the inheritance is by law, it is no longer by promise, but (R)God has granted it to Abraham through promise.

19 (S)Why the Law then? It was added [m]because of trespasses, having been (T)ordained through angels (U)by the hand of a mediator, until (V)the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. 20 Now (W)a mediator is not [n]for one person only, whereas God is one. 21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? (X)May it never be! For (Y)if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed be by law. 22 But the Scripture has (Z)shut up [o]everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Psalm 61

Lead Me to the Rock

For the choir director. On a stringed instrument. Of David.

61 (A)Hear my cry of lamentation, O God;
(B)Give heed to my prayer.
From the (C)end of the earth I call to You when my heart is (D)faint;
Lead me to (E)the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a (F)refuge for me,
A (G)tower of strength before the enemy.
Let me (H)sojourn in Your tent forever;
Let me (I)take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. [a]Selah.

For You, O God, have heard my (J)vows;
You have given me the inheritance of those who (K)fear Your name.
You will (L)add days to the king’s [b]life;
His years will be from generation to generation.
He will sit enthroned (M)before God forever;
Appoint (N)lovingkindness and truth that they may guard him.
So I will (O)sing praise to Your name forever,
As I (P)pay my vows day by day.

Proverbs 23:17-18

17 (A)Do not let your heart be jealous of sinners,
But be zealous in the [a](B)fear of Yahweh [b]always.
18 Surely there is a [c](C)future,
And your (D)hope will not be cut off.
