Jeremiah 30:1-31:26

Yahweh Will Return the Fortunes of His People

30 The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘(A)Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book. For behold, (B)days are coming,’ declares Yahweh, ‘when I will [a](C)return the [b]fortunes of My people (D)Israel and Judah.’ Yahweh says, ‘I will also (E)cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’”

Now these are the words which Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah:

“For thus says Yahweh,

‘We have heard a sound of (F)trembling,
Of dread, and there is no peace.
Ask now, and see
If a male can give birth.
Why do I see every man
With his hands on his loins, (G)as a woman in childbirth?
And why have all faces turned pale?
Alas! For that (H)day is great,
There is (I)none like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s (J)distress,
But he will be (K)saved from it.

‘And it will be in that day,’ declares Yahweh of hosts, ‘that I will (L)break his yoke from off your neck and will tear off your (M)bonds; and strangers will no longer (N)make [c]them their slaves. But they shall be a slave to Yahweh their God and (O)David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

10 (P)Fear not, O Jacob My [d]servant,’ declares Yahweh,
‘And do not be dismayed, O Israel;
For behold, I will save you (Q)from afar
And your seed from the land of their captivity.
And Jacob will return and will be (R)quiet and at ease,
And (S)no one will make him tremble.
11 For (T)I am with you,’ declares Yahweh, ‘to save you;
For I will (U)make a complete destruction of all the nations where I have scattered you,
Only I will (V)not make a complete destruction of you.
But I will (W)chasten you justly
And will by no means leave you unpunished.’

12 “For thus says Yahweh,

‘Your injury is incurable,
And your (X)wound is desperately sick.
13 There is no one to plead your cause;
No healing for your sore,
(Y)No recovery for you.
14 All your (Z)lovers have forgotten you;
They do not seek you;
For I have [e](AA)wounded you with the wound of an enemy,
With the (AB)punishment of a (AC)cruel one,
Because your (AD)iniquity is numerous
And your (AE)sins are mighty.
15 Why do you cry out over your injury?
Your pain is incurable.
Because your iniquity is numerous
And your sins are mighty,
I have done these things to you.
16 Therefore all who (AF)devour you will be devoured;
And all your adversaries, every one of them, (AG)will go into captivity;
And those who take you as spoil will be spoil,
And all who plunder you I will give as plunder.
17 For I will [f]restore you to [g](AH)health,
And I will heal you of your wounds,’ declares Yahweh,
‘Because they have called you a (AI)banished one, saying:
“It is Zion; no one is seeking her.”’

18 “Thus says Yahweh,

‘Behold, I will [h](AJ)return the [i]fortunes of the tents of Jacob
And (AK)have compassion on his dwelling places;
And the (AL)city will be rebuilt on its ruin,
And the (AM)palace will sit on its just place.
19 From them will come forth (AN)thanksgiving
And the voice of those who [j](AO)celebrate;
And I will (AP)multiply them, and they will not decrease;
I will also (AQ)honor them, and they will not be insignificant.
20 [k]Their children also will be as formerly,
And [l]their congregation shall be (AR)established before Me;
And I will punish all [m]their oppressors.
21 And [n]their (AS)mighty one shall be one of them,
And [o]their ruler shall come forth from [p]their midst;
And I will (AT)bring Him near, and He shall approach Me;
For who would dare to give his heart as security to (AU)approach Me?’ declares Yahweh.
22 ‘You shall be (AV)My people,
And I will be your God.’”

23 Behold, the (AW)storm of Yahweh!
Wrath has gone forth,
A [q]sweeping storm;
It will burst on the head of the wicked.
24 The (AX)burning anger of Yahweh will not turn back
Until He has done and until He has established
The intent of His heart;
In the (AY)last days you will understand this.

Israel’s Mourning Turned to Joy

31 “At that time,” declares Yahweh, “I will be the (AZ)God of all the (BA)families of Israel, and they shall be My people.”

Thus says Yahweh,

“The people who survived the sword
(BB)Found grace in the wilderness—
Israel, when it went to (BC)find its relief.”
Yahweh appeared to [r]him from afar, saying,
“I have (BD)loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with (BE)lovingkindness.
(BF)Again I will build you, and you will be rebuilt,
O virgin of Israel!
Again you will [s]take up your (BG)tambourines
And go forth to the dances of those (BH)celebrating.
Again you will (BI)plant vineyards
On the [t]hills of Samaria;
The planters will plant
And will [u]enjoy them.
For there will be a day when watchmen
On the hills of Ephraim call out,
‘Arise, and (BJ)let us go up to Zion,
To Yahweh our God.’”

For thus says Yahweh,

(BK)Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob,
And shout among the (BL)head of the nations;
Make it heard, give praise, and say,
‘O Yahweh, (BM)save Your people,
The (BN)remnant of Israel.’
Behold, I am (BO)bringing them from the north country,
And I will (BP)gather them from the remote parts of the earth,
Among them the (BQ)blind and the (BR)lame,
The woman with child and she who is in labor with child, together;
A great assembly, they will return here.
(BS)With weeping they will come,
And by supplication I will lead them;
I will make them walk by (BT)streams of waters,
On a straight path in which they will (BU)not stumble;
For I am a (BV)father to Israel,
And Ephraim is (BW)My firstborn.”

10 Hear the word of Yahweh, O nations,
And declare in the (BX)coastlands far away,
And say, “He who dispersed Israel will (BY)gather him
And keep him as a (BZ)shepherd keeps his flock.”
11 For Yahweh has (CA)ransomed Jacob
And redeemed him from the hand of him who was (CB)stronger than he.
12 “They will (CC)come and sing for joy on the (CD)height of Zion,
And they will be (CE)radiant over the goodness of Yahweh—
Over the (CF)grain and the new wine and the oil,
And over the young of the (CG)flock and the herd;
And their soul will be like a (CH)watered garden,
And they will (CI)never waste away again.
13 Then the virgin will be glad in the (CJ)dance,
And the young men and the old, together,
For I will (CK)turn their mourning into joy
And will comfort them and give them (CL)gladness for their sorrow.
14 I will [v]fill the soul of the priests with [w]richness,
And My people will be (CM)satisfied with My goodness,” declares Yahweh.

15 Thus says Yahweh,

(CN)A voice is heard in (CO)Ramah,
Wailing and bitter weeping.
Rachel is weeping for her children;
She (CP)refuses to be comforted for her children
Because (CQ)they are no more.”

16 Thus says Yahweh,

(CR)Restrain your voice from weeping
And your eyes from tears,
For your (CS)work will be rewarded,” declares Yahweh,
“And they will (CT)return from the land of the enemy.
17 And there is (CU)hope for your future,” declares Yahweh,
“And your children will return to their own territory.
18 I have surely heard Ephraim (CV)grieving,
‘You have (CW)chastised me, and I was chastised,
Like an untrained (CX)calf;
(CY)Cause me to return that I may return,
For You are Yahweh my God.
19 For after I turned away, I (CZ)repented;
And after I was instructed, I (DA)slapped my thigh;
I was (DB)ashamed and also dishonored
Because I bore the reproach of my youth.’
20 Is (DC)Ephraim My dear son?
Is he a delightful child?
Indeed, as often as I have spoken against him,
I certainly still remember him;
Therefore My [x](DD)inmost being yearns for him;
I will surely (DE)have compassion on him,” declares Yahweh.

21 “Set up roadmarks for yourself,
Place for yourself guideposts;
(DF)Set your heart to the highway,
The way by which you went.
(DG)Return, O virgin of Israel,
Return to these your cities.
22 How long will you go here and there,
O (DH)faithless daughter?
For Yahweh has created a new thing in the earth—
A [y]woman will encompass a man.”

23 Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, “Once again they will speak this word in the land of Judah and in its cities when I [z](DI)return their [aa]fortunes,

‘Yahweh bless you, O (DJ)abode of righteousness,
O (DK)holy hill!’

24 And Judah and all its cities will (DL)inhabit it together, the farmer and they who go about with flocks. 25 (DM)For I satisfy the weary soul and fill up every soul who wastes away.” 26 At this I (DN)awoke and looked, and my (DO)sleep was pleasant to me.

1 Timothy 2

Exhortation to Prayer

First of all, then, I exhort that (A)petitions and prayers, requests and thanksgivings, be made for all men, (B)for kings and all who are in [a]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and [b]dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of (C)God our Savior, (D)who desires all men to be (E)saved and to (F)come to the [c]full knowledge of the truth. For there is (G)one God, and (H)one mediator also between God and men, the (I)man Christ Jesus, who (J)gave Himself as a ransom for all, the (K)witness for [d](L)this proper time. (M)For this I was appointed a [e]preacher and (N)an apostle ((O)I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of (P)the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Therefore (Q)I want the men (R)in every place to pray, (S)lifting up (T)holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

Instructions for Women

Likewise, I want (U)women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, with modesty and self-restraint, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women professing godliness. 11 (V)A woman must learn in quietness, in all submission. 12 (W)But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 (X)For it was Adam who was first formed, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but (Y)the woman being deceived, [f]fell into trespass. 15 But she will be [g]saved through the bearing of children, if they continue in (Z)faith and love and sanctification with self-restraint.

Psalm 87

Yahweh Loves the Gates of Zion

Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.

87 His (A)foundation is in the holy mountains.
Yahweh (B)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
(C)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (D)city of God. [a]Selah.
“I shall mention [b](E)Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (F)Tyre with [c](G)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (H)establish her.
Yahweh will count when He (I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
And (J)singers, just like the (K)dancers, will all say,
“All my (L)springs are in you.”

Proverbs 25:18-19

18 Like a club and a (A)sword and a sharp (B)arrow
Is a man who bears [a](C)false witness against his neighbor.
19 Like [b]an aching tooth and a slipping foot
Is trust in a (D)treacherous man in a day of distress.
