Daniel 9:1-11

Daniel’s Prayer of Supplication

In the first year of (A)Darius the son of Ahasuerus, from the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans— in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, discerned in the books the (B)number of the years concerning which the word of [a]Yahweh came to (C)Jeremiah the prophet for the fulfillment of the laying waste of Jerusalem, namely, (D)seventy years. So I gave my face to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. And I prayed to Yahweh my God and confessed and said, “Alas, O Lord, the (E)great and awesome God, who (F)keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, (G)we have sinned and committed iniquity and acted wickedly and (H)rebelled, even (I)turning aside from Your commandments and judgments. Moreover, we have not (J)listened to Your slaves the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all the people of the land.

(K)To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us [b](L)open shame, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are nearby and those who are far away in (M)all the countries to which You have banished them, because of their unfaithful deeds which they have committed against You. O Yahweh, to us belongs [c]open shame, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God belong (N)compassion and forgiveness, [d]for we have (O)rebelled against Him; 10 nor have we listened to the voice of Yahweh our God, to walk in His [e]laws which He (P)put before us through His slaves the prophets. 11 Indeed (Q)all Israel has trespassed against Your law, even turning aside, not listening to Your voice; so the (R)curse has been poured out on us, along with the oath which is written in the [f]law of Moses the [g]servant of God, for we have sinned against Him. 12 Thus He has (S)established His words which He had spoken against us and against our (T)judges who judged us, to bring on us great calamity; for under the whole heaven there has (U)not been done anything like what was done to Jerusalem. 13 As it is written in the [h](V)law of Moses, all this calamity has come on us; yet we have (W)not [i]entreated the favor of Yahweh our God by (X)turning from our iniquity and acting wisely in Your truth. 14 Therefore Yahweh has (Y)watched over the calamity and brought it on us; for Yahweh our God is (Z)righteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not listened to His voice.

15 “So now, O Lord our God, who have (AA)brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand and have (AB)made a name for Yourself, as it is this day—we have sinned; we have acted wickedly. 16 O Lord, in accordance with all Your righteousness, let now Your (AC)anger and Your wrath turn away from Your city Jerusalem, Your (AD)holy mountain; for because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a (AE)reproach to all those around us. 17 So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Your slave and to his supplications, and for [j]Your sake, O Lord, (AF)let Your face shine on Your (AG)desolate sanctuary. 18 O my God, (AH)incline Your ear and listen! Open Your eyes and (AI)see our desolations and the city which is (AJ)called by Your name; for we are not [k](AK)presenting our supplications before You on account of any righteousness of our own, but on account of Your abundant compassion. 19 O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, give heed and take action! For Your own sake, O my God, (AL)do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

Gabriel Brings Understanding

20 Now while I was (AM)speaking and praying, and (AN)confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and [l]presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God, 21 and while I was still speaking in prayer, then the man (AO)Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision [m]previously, [n]touched me [o]in my extreme weariness about the time of the (AP)evening offering. 22 Then he made me understand and spoke with me and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you insight with (AQ)understanding. 23 At the (AR)beginning of your supplications the word was issued, so I have come to tell you, for you are [p](AS)highly esteemed; so understand the message and gain (AT)understanding in what has appeared.

Seventy Weeks and the Messiah

24 “Seventy [q](AU)weeks have been determined for your people and for your holy city, to [r]finish the transgression, to [s]make an end of sin, to (AV)make atonement for iniquity, to bring in (AW)everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and [t]prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies. 25 So you are to know and have insight that from the going out of a [u](AX)word to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until [v](AY)Messiah the (AZ)Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be restored and rebuilt, with [w]plaza and moat, even in times of distress. 26 Then after the sixty-two weeks the [x]Messiah will be (BA)cut off and have [y]nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will (BB)destroy the city and the sanctuary. And [z]its end will come with a (BC)flood; even to the end [aa]there will be war; desolations are decreed. 27 And he will make a [ab]firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will make sacrifice and grain offering cease; and on the wing of [ac](BD)abominations will come one who [ad]makes desolate, even until a (BE)complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who [ae]makes desolate.”

Daniel’s Terrifying Vision of a Man

10 In the third year of (BF)Cyrus king of Persia, a word was revealed to (BG)Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar; and the (BH)word was true and one of great [af]conflict, but he understood the word and had an (BI)understanding of what had appeared.

In those days, I, Daniel, had been (BJ)mourning for three entire [ag]weeks. I (BK)did not eat any [ah]tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all until the entire three [ai]weeks were fulfilled.

And on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, while I was by the bank of the great (BL)river, that is, the [aj]Tigris, I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a certain man (BM)dressed in linen, whose loins were (BN)girded with a belt of pure (BO)fine gold of Uphaz. His body also was like [ak]beryl, his face [al]had the appearance of lightning, (BP)his eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. Now I, Daniel, (BQ)alone saw the vision that appeared, but the (BR)men who were with me did not see the vision that appeared; nevertheless, a great (BS)terror fell on them, and they ran away to hide themselves. So I alone (BT)remained and saw this great vision that appeared; yet (BU)no might remained in me, for my outward splendor turned to [am]a deathly pallor, and I retained no might. But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words, I (BV)fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.

Daniel Is Strengthened

10 Then behold, a hand (BW)touched me and set me shaking on my [an]hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “O (BX)Daniel, man of [ao]high esteem, (BY)understand the words that I am about to speak to you and (BZ)stand [ap]upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up (CA)trembling. 12 Then he said to me, “(CB)Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you gave your heart to understand this and to (CC)humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response (CD)to your words. 13 But the [aq]prince of the kingdom of Persia was [ar]standing against me for twenty-one days; then behold, (CE)Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me. Now I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to (CF)give you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the [as](CG)last days, for the vision pertains to (CH)the days yet future.” 15 Now when he had spoken to me according to these words, I [at]turned my face toward the ground and became (CI)speechless.

16 And behold, (CJ)one [au]in the likeness of the sons of men was (CK)touching my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, “O my lord, as a result of the vision that appeared, (CL)pains have come upon me, and I have retained no might. 17 Now (CM)how can such a servant of my lord talk with such as my lord? As for me, right now (CN)no might stands within me, nor does any breath remain within me.”

18 Then this one with the appearance of a man touched me again and (CO)strengthened me. 19 And he said, “O man of [av]high esteem, (CP)do not be afraid. Peace [aw]be with you; gather (CQ)strength and be strong!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I received strength and said, “May my lord speak, for you have (CR)strengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the [ax]prince of Persia; so I am going forth, and behold, the [ay](CS)prince of [az]Greece is about to come. 21 However, I will tell you what is [ba]inscribed in the writing of (CT)truth. Now there is no one who [bb]exerts strength with me against these forces except (CU)Michael your prince.

Kingdoms and Wars

11 “Now I, in the (CV)first year of Darius the Mede, [bc]I stood to strengthen and to be a fortress for him.

1 John 2:18-3:6

18 Children, (A)it is the last hour; and just as you heard that (B)antichrist is coming, (C)even now many antichrists have appeared. From this we know that it is the last hour. 19 (D)They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they were of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, (E)so that [a]it would be manifested that they all are not of us. 20 [b]But you have an (F)anointing from (G)the Holy One, and (H)you all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but (I)because you do know it, and [c]because no lie is (J)of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but (K)the one who denies that Jesus is the [d]Christ? This is (L)the [e]antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 (M)Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that which you heard (N)from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also (O)will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 (P)And this is the promise which He Himself [f]made to us: eternal life.

26 These things I have written to you about those who are trying to (Q)deceive you. 27 And as for you, the (R)anointing whom you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as His anointing (S)teaches you about all things, and is (T)true and is not a lie, and just as He has taught you, [g]abide in Him.

28 And now, (U)little children, abide in Him, so that when He (V)is manifested, we may have (W)confidence and (X)not [h]shrink away from Him in shame [i]at His (Y)coming. 29 If you know that (Z)He is righteous, you know that everyone also who does righteousness (AA)has been [j]born of Him.

Children of God, Love One Another

See [k](AB)how great a love the Father has given to us, that we would be called (AC)children of God; and we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because (AD)it did not know Him. (AE)Beloved, now we are (AF)children of God, and (AG)it has not been manifested as yet what we will be. We know that when He (AH)is manifested, we will be (AI)like Him, because we will (AJ)see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this (AK)hope fixed on Him (AL)purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Everyone who does sin also does lawlessness; and (AM)sin is lawlessness. And you know that He (AN)was manifested in order to (AO)take away sins, and (AP)in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him (AQ)sins; no one who sins has seen Him or [l](AR)has come to know Him.

Psalm 121

My Help Comes from Yahweh

A Song of Ascents.

121 I will (A)lift up my eyes to (B)the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My (C)help comes from Yahweh,
Who (D)made heaven and earth.
[a]He will not (E)allow your foot to stumble;
[b]He who (F)keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will not slumber and will not sleep.

Yahweh is your (G)keeper;
Yahweh is your (H)shade on your right hand.
The (I)sun will not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
Yahweh will (J)keep you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
Yahweh will (K)keep your going out and your coming in
(L)From now until forever.

Proverbs 28:27-28

27 He who (A)gives to the poor will never want,
But he who [a]shuts his eyes will have many curses.
28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves;
But when they perish, the righteous increase.
